First Step Dance Studio Celebrating 25 years First Step Dance Studio, located at 127 South Williams St. in Whitehall, has been helping local residents take their first steps on the dance floor since 1993. The studio offers dance classes to students of all ages and abilities in a variety of disciplines. Leading those classes is instructor and owner Miss Pam. Pam Hobus, who was born and raised in Whitehall, has 52 years of dance experience and has received training in New Paltz, Glens Falls and Queensbury. She was even afford- Pam Hobus, owner. ed an opportunity to serve as an instructor at The Glens Falls Dance Center, but declined so that she could open her own studio in Whitehall in September 1993. This year marks Pam Hobus’ First Step Dance Studio’s 25th anniversary. Besides spreading her passion for dance, Miss Pam serves as a representative of health and fitness. “Juvenile obesity has become a major concern that can affect these children for years to come. Getting our youth active and involved in some form of exercise on a regular basis is extremely important,” she says. “I hope to pass on my dedication, love and passion for

dance to my students, as well as having a lifelong impact on the importance of health and fitness.” First Step Dance Studio strives to provide a fun and exciting atmosphere, while teaching rhythm, coordination, musicality, technique, teamwork, and the ability to follow instructions and direction while preparing for public performances. Some of the classes offered include tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary, hard and soft shoe Celtic and preschool classes. The requirements for preschool dances are students must be 2 years old and be potty trained or pull-ups are ok. Dancers of all abilities welcome. Tuition is based on total hourly enrollment and the more dancers per family and/or the number of classes signed up for, the bigger the discount. First Step seasons resume in September and dancers work through May towards a two-night recital. The studio is open four days per week, Sunday through Wednesday. You can reach Miss Pam through her First Step Dance Studio Facebook page or call her at 518-499-0951 or 518-796-0907.

2nd Time Around A Community Consignment Shop

A fun community consignment shop.

Everything old is new again At 2nd Time Around, a consignment shop located at 35 Main St. in Granville, owner Will Kuban is not only passionate about taking his love of up-cycling and repurposing and finding new homes for timeless treasures. He is also excited to be in a business that gives back to the community. “I wanted to have a business that was completely community oriented,” Kuban explained. “Every time an item comes in and I sell it, I get to pay my clients directly. Every dime goes back into the community, not an out-of-state bank or big box corporation.” Kuban, a resident of Hebron, opened his store in July 2015. It was a time when Main Street seemed to have more business closings than openings. Kuban,

however, saw an opportunity to do his small part in helping to revitalize Granville’s downtown. “I looked at bigger commercial properties in the area plazas, but have always loved the feeling of old-time Main Streets,” he said. Kuban describes his shop as a mix of not-so-old and not-so new, featuring household items, home decor, shoes and clothing for both women and men. There is also a selection of jewels and a growing vinyl section. So if you are on the hunt for a new-found treasure or trinket, 2nd Time Around is the place to search through the ever-changing inventory. 2nd Time Around is opened Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

John Harney, owner.

'Really taken root' Located in Granville, New York, Harney’s Lawn Care Services started out as a very small business when John Harney took the reins from his father back in 2000. The business started in 1970 only doing 10 lawns per week with a small tractor, a push mower and a trailer; the business had room to grow. Seventeen years later, the lawn care service has really taken root. Now Harney is mowing 35 lawn per week and has brand new equipment to really expand this one man business. Harney’s Lawn Care now offers a variety of services for both commercial and residential property, such as mowing, fall and spring lawn cleanup, snow plow, shoveling walk ways and salting them as well. Harney runs a “pay as you mow” business, since contracts are not always the best when it comes to the ever

changing weather of upstate New York. The average prices for lawn services are around $30-$100, depending on the size of the job. Since he is the sole employee of the business, it’s best to call in advance for what lawn care services you would like to have done. Harney says that “hard work and long days have really paid off,” and he is looking forward to what the future holds and does not forget the people who helped him out along the way. “Looking forward to what’s going to come in the future. I owe everything to my dad for believing in me,” he said. To contact Harney’s Lawn Care Service for your home or professional needs, please contact Harney at 518-3612453 or visit his office address at 4 Buckley Ave St. Granville, NY 12832.

Historic Grounds, a breakfast and lunch coffee shop, combines the history of Whitehall with the food you love. The inside of the shop features exposed brick walls, an exquisite skylight and the aroma of fresh ground coffee. “We wanted to create an atmosphere for people to meet and enjoy great conversation while drinking a fresh cup of coffee or eating a nice meal,” said owners Nathaniel and Nancy Huntington. Located on Whitehall’s historic Main Street inside a former bank constructed in 1906, the coffee shop was opened in 2014 by the Huntingtons. “We had always wanted to Kayla and Marissa own a breakfast place where just stop on by and have a great cup of people could sit and relax and have homemade food. Gemini Fitness

The Organ Barn

WE ARE GEMINI FITNESS!

Get fit in a friendly atmosphere Who is Gemini Fitness? As the picture shows, we are all sizes, shapes, ages, and abilities. One of our stars is 93 years old! Others are seriously overweight, have significant health challenges, or are beginners. Yet they come to us to help them change their lives. Every one of them was uncomfortable about coming in at first. They felt out of shape, too old, or in too much pain. They assumed everybody else at Gemini Fitness would be in glorious shape and know how to do everything. That’s not who we are. We cater to those who are out of shape, who have health or physical challenges, or who need to lose weight. We help strengthen people who are about to have major surgery, like hip, knee, shoulder, or back surgery. And then we help them become more functional after their surgery and physical therapy. We are a family business. We know

every member by name, and we help members with their fitness routines every day. That is what we are here for. Since we have several hundred members, you will probably know some when you come visit. And you can start for just $11.25/week. The hardest part for you may be just walking in the door. We don’t bite, or hard-sell anyone. We will discuss your needs, how we can help you, then give you a tour. At that point you can take our brochure and go home. If you are like most of our members, you will quickly feel comfortable and begin getting stronger, healthier, have less stress, sleep better, feel more confident, and look better! That is our only mission at Gemini Fitness. To help our members get back the energy, vitality and health they may have lost. See our ad for details on our hours of operation and address.

The Organ Barn is located at 672 North Grimes Hill Road in Granville, NY.

A multi-purpose venue The Organ Barn is a different kind of Bed & Breakfast. Originally built as a hay barn in 1905, it sits on seven acres of spacious lawns and gardens in the town of Hebron, New York. In 2012 Ralph Krueger purchased the rough structure and dedicated all his efforts into restoring and converting this wonderful old barn. The Organ Barn has become a much desired venue for hosting weddings, receptions, group meetings, concerts, recitals, parties and events. The rustic charm of this post and beam barn adds a blend of old barn boards, gleaming hardwood floors and antiques. Stepping through the formal entrance, the centerpiece of the great room features a magnificent 1872 tracker pipe organ, reed organ and a grand piano. The lower level

offers three guest rooms with queen-size beds, private baths, A/C, TV, DVD, hot tub and a small gym. Affordable rates and special package pricing is available. For many years, Krueger has been committed to the Granville-Hebron area and is an active member of the Granville Chamber of Commerce, Hebron Preservation Society, the Hebron Planning Board and the South Granville Church. The Organ Barn is located on Route 22 just six miles south of the intersection of Routes 149 and 22. More detailed information and photos can be seen on our website, www.Organ Barn.com or you can stop by at 672 North Grimes Hill Road, Granville, New York 12832. Calling 518-812-6171 ahead will be sure that Krueger is available.

The team at Zappone Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM in Granville.

Zappone family proud to call Granville home The Zappone family has been proud to call Granville “our town” for over a decade. While our commitment to a consistent and enjoyable experience is unwavering, we have made some exciting additions. We have added long-time Washington county resident Carl Frost as general manager. Carl has over 20 years of Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM experience. Carl and his experienced team of local automotive professionals include Bryan Teer, Vern Potter, Lee Whitmore, and welcoming Nick Stanley to our staff and would also like to welcome Tyler Martin as our finance manager. One of the things my family is so

proud of is the loyalty of our family of employees. From the service department where nearly every technician has been with us since day one - they know each of our customers and their cars inside and out. Same goes for our service and parts counter where they greet every customer by name. Lastly our administrative office holds the place together with their knowledge of their hometown of Granville and their understanding of what it means to treat each customer just right. Thank you for your support over the last 12 years. If you haven’t visited us before, please come see us. You’ll be glad you did and so will we.

Where time slows down, if only for a while With more than one hundred years of tradition in serving the people of Middle Granville and surrounding communities, we must be doing something right. At Chapman’s, we pride ourselves in combining the charm and personality of an original country store with the convenience, quality and service required by the pace of living today. We continue to provide our customers with quality foods prepared fresh and are best known for our fresh subs and sandwiches, hot soups and lunches made daily. This past year we upgraded our store interior with new counters, added a second kitchen and started both a Catering service and “Dinners to Go” Monday through Friday. Joining our team at Chapman’s is Gary and Marti’s sister, Paula, who is spearheading the new kitchen fare. Some of our popular FallWinter dinners to go include BaconWrapped Meatloaf, our chicken entrees: Marsala, Picatta, Parmesan, and Cordon bleu, and our signature Spaghetti Sauce. We also regularly feature International nights with Mexican and Thai dishes not found elsewhere locally. All of these dishes and more are available on our catering menu designed for all sized groups and functions. In addition, from our kitchen we feature Becca’s Best Baked Goods, an array of confections from cakes and cookies to brownies and magic bars that will satisfy your sweet tooth, all baked on site. Chapman’s opens at 5 a.m. serving breakfast sandwiches, donuts, muffins and pastries plus fresh brewed Green

Mountain coffee. Lunch time is our busiest time of day with a regular customer following for our famous submarines, and daily sandwich specials. Hot casseroles and soups prepared daily by lunch chef Colleen don’t last long. We have expanded our regular sandwiches this year to include pulled-pork, meatloaf, and Rueben’s, among others. After work, customer’s now stop by to pick up our delicious Dinners To Go. Most dinners are $8.99 and generously portioned. Chapman’s also has a full deli with cold cuts, fresh-made salads, and soft ice cream in summer, old-fashioned penny candy, groceries, Battenkill dairy, lottery tickets, an ATM and “the coldest beer in Middle Granville.” We sell Pit Stop gasoline with non-ethanol premium brand, as well as diesel, kerosene and propane tanks. WiFi service is available 24/7. So come on in and try one of our many manly subs and sandwiches. Perhaps the “Golden Gobbler,” the “Roast Beast,” or maybe the “Mad Cow” is what you’re looking for. The famous “Flatlander” or “He-man Woman hater” could be just for you. Whichever you choose, come in, sit down, relax and eat in one of our booths while enjoying our friendly atmosphere with local memorabilia and historic photographs of Middle Granville. Visit Chapman’s General Store at 7 Main St. in Middle Granville (or 1409 route 24 on your GPS). Call 518-642-1870 for food orders, to reserve Dinners To Go, and catering consultations.

Now is the time to buy in Granville The local real estate market remains active but at a slower pace than last year. Although it remains a buyer’s market with qualified buyers looking for the best deal, the lack of inventory for sale has made many sellers less plexible on the selling price. Properties that are attractive to show (start by getting rid of clutter) and priced correctly for the conditions are moving. Interest rates remain low and banks are ready to lend to quali-

fied buyers. This is a great time to be purchasing a home and no better place to buy than right here in Granville and the surrounding countryside. Carol's Collectibles & Antiques

York Coach Works

Carol's Collectibles & Antiques has over 10,000 sq. ft. of new and used items.

Great prices on quality merchandise Carol’s Collectibles & Antiques has been around long enough to know what its customers want. “Consistent hours, quality merchandise, reasonable prices and a relaxed atmosphere” said co-owner Carol Winchell. “If I don’t have something, people can give me their name and number and I’ll find it and call them.” Carol’s Collectibles offers a enormous, multi-room collection of furniture, paintings, tools, kitchenware, linens, jewelry and more. Its inventory is updated daily, with new merchandise from weekly auction and estate purchases. There is literally something new to see all the time! The popular shop opened in 2000 on Poultney Street and moved to Broadway in 2006, where the extra room was greatly needed for the fast-growing business. Even at the new location updates, repairing and remodeling are always

taking place for future plans of expansion. Carol’s Collectibles is run by Winchell and Terry Stevenson, and features 10,000 square feet plus of new and used merchandise. Carol’s Collectibles is located at 84 Broadway in Whitehall. Keeping a watchful eye on it, as always, is the store’s official greeter, CC the cat. “She has our regular customers welltrained on how to take care of her,” Winchell said. If you would like to see how CC came to be part of Carol’s Collectibles, see her page on the shop website. Feel free to visit CC and the wonderful collection at Carol’s Collectibles & Antiques any day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store accepts credit and debit cards. More information about the shop can be found at www.carolscollectibles.biz or by calling Carol at 518-499-0728.

The staff at York Coach Works.

There for drivers on their worst days Sure, they have all the latest and greatest tools and equipment. Sure, there is the computerized frame measuring system, waterborne paint system, touchless tire machine, wheel balancer, and a down draft paint booth in their 15-bay collision shop. But all that is just “fluff.” What is really important is the ongoing education and experience from each of York Coach Works’ seven technicians that is reflected in each and every job. The company’s technicians, with over 155 years of combined service, have pride in their work as if they themselves were the owners. The front office is the first stop to a smooth experience with your insur-

ance company. You report the claim and York Coach Works will make sure that everything is handled with your best interest in mind. Remember, all collision work comes with a lifetime warrantee, not from the insurance company but directly from the people you know at York Coach Works. No hassle. No surprises – just topquality work done by a shop that has proven to be a winner. Hopefully you won’t need them, but know that York Coach Works are there ready to help on that day that you feel “just can’t get any worse…” York Coach Works is located at 1075 Vermont Route 30 North in Poultney. Stateline Flea Market

Skene Manor Opening in mid-April for 2018

State Line Flea Market is located on Route 4 in Whitehall.

Celebrating seven years The general rule of thumb in business start- ups is that if you survive the first year there is a good chance the business plan is sound and the only challenge is to change with the times accordingly. The business plan Erika Foy developed for her State Line Flea Market was successful from the start and hasn›t had to change much as she ushers in her 7th year of business in Whitehall. As a partner in a long- established estate and antique auction company in the lower Hudson Valley she recognized an opportunity to capitalize on the unending supply of antique and quality used goods. Unloading a car, truck or van load every Sunday morning there is usually a cadre of treasure

hunters assisting her unpacking it into the various tool, furniture, clothing, audio, book, antique and other ‘areas’ of the 5500 square foot building. Sandwiched between County 18 and Rt. 4 in Whitehall, Ms. Foy has been open every Sunday 8-5 year- round with a just few holiday closings since May 2011. Her success has afforded her the means to purchase this past fall the former Ross Chevrolet property that fronts her building on Route 4. Foy looks forward to springtime development of the additional space into easier access from the highway, additional parking and high visibility outdoor vendor spaces in hopes of bringing even more interest and excitement into weekly event.

Funeral Preplanning for Peace of Mind

Skene Manor is a historically elegant, gothicstyle, Victorian castle located at 8 Potter’s Terrace, sitting majestically over the Champlain Canal and the Village of Whitehall. It was built on Skene Mountain by Supreme Court Judge Joseph H. Potter in 1874, using the finest materials and gray sandstone quarried from the site. Skene Manor was a private residence until 1946 when it was converted into a restaurant. In 1995, Whitehall Skene Manor Preservation, Inc. purchased the building, dedicating all their efforts into restoring and preserving this magnificent part of Skene Manor Whitehall’s history. Skene Manor is on the National Registry for Historic Buildings. All monies donated are restricted to preservation projects and are tax deductible. Skene Manor, easily visible from the waterway and land, with Routes 4 and 22 at their junction, beckons area tourists to visit. And not just visit its grand structure, but all of historic Whitehall-the birthplace of the United States Navy. A gift shop is located on the first floor and tours of Skene Manor are free. Skene Manor is open mid-April through

December and closed January through mid- April. For a delightful trip back in time, with gorgeous views, the lovely Victorian Tea Room is open for lunch Friday, Saturday and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. There are also special monthly dinners featuring a complete gourmet meal. The Skene Manor is available for parties, reunions and receptions. For more information or directions, please call Skene Manor at 518-499-1906 or visit online at www.skenemanor.org. Anndar Creations

Norm's Marine Service Honest and experienced

Original America sign by Anndar Creations.

Unique handmade decor Lori Darrah, owner of Anndar Creations has always loved creating things. Her love is made manifest in every one of her creations, which can be found in her shop nestled along State Route 22 in quiet Hebron and on line. Shoppers can find all manner of handmade home and outside décor. A small sample of Darrah’s inventory includes reclaimed slate signs, reclaimed wood products such as herb boxes, drying boards and sun catchers. Want something unique; something that cannot be found in any box store? Darrah also offers custom-made orders. “I feel I offer quality home décor,” Darrah said. “It is an attraction for visitors driving through Washington County to stop and browse, buy a unique gift for someone special or just for themselves!” Anndar Creations opened in 2017. Darrah and her husband purchased a large farm house to finish raising their children. Now, they have all grown up and moved out so Darrah decided to turn the upstairs of the home-three rooms in

total-into a work area for her venture and the barn has morphed into a market. Every single creative piece found in Anndar’s inventory is handmade by Darrah with an exquisite attention to detail. “I am a perfectionist and very passionate about my creations,” she said. “If I wouldn’t buy it, I won’t sell it.” Also, Darrah stands by the axiom “buy local.” All of the materials she uses to craft her unique creations is native to Washington County. Although her business is not even a year old yet, Darrah said she has plans to further expand her inventory to include flowers and handmade furniture. When not designing and crafting her wares, Darrah enjoys gardening, both flowers and vegetables, as well as reading and relaxing. “When I have time,” she said. Anndar Creations is located at 6870 State Rte. 22 in Hebron. If you prefer to shop on line, visit anndarcreations.com or Lori Darrah can be contacted at 802683-8137.

In 2012 Norm Bishop opened Norm’s Marine Service in a little two-bay garage at his home. Six years later, the business is continuing to grow and shows no signs of slowing. Norm actually outgrew his original location within one year of opening his doors. He said his primary motivation for wanting to expand was he was unable to provide the level of customer service he thought his customers deserved. “I outgrew my ability to take care of customers the way I wanted to,” he said. And so he purchased his current location on State Route 4 in Whitehall and added two more bays to accommodate the overflow. Norm attributes his success to his straight forward demeanor and speedy turnaround time. “We are honest and have the right personnel to get you back on the water quickly,” Bishop said. What many people may not know is that Bishop can get you back on the water the very same day you contact him. “We also come right to you so you are not burdened about transportation,” Bishop said. With more than 30 years of experience in his shop, that’s no idle boast. Perhaps the largest selling point-no pun intended-of Norm’s Marine Service are their fair, affordable prices. Bishop and his staff service all makes and models of boats and boat motors as well as boat trailers. New and note worthy in 2017, Norm added new Venture boat trailers and Tohatsu outboard motors to his inventory. The quick growing business also has

Norm Bishop, owner. a large line of used boats for sale and also brokers boats. When asked if there are any plans to expand the business in coming years Bishop remained tight-lipped saying “This is a secret.” When not introducing folks to the boating life at affordable prices, Bishop enjoys fishing, hunting, camping and “Just getting out there and enjoying life.” Norm’s Marine Service is located at 10148 State Route 4 in Whitehall. Inventory changes daily. “You never know what will be unpacked and put out on the floor of the shop,” said Cyndy Pritchard, owner. “It is like Christmas all the time.” Every visit to Finder’s Keepers is guaranteed to be a new experience because Pritchard’s inventory is changing every day. Pritchard said she intends to further widen her inventory this year by continuing the hunt for different pieces of household items. Additionally, Finder’s Keepers will now offer a variety of cannabidiol oilinfused products such as lotions, bath salts and creams to help people with pain management naturally. Fair Haven residents can expect to see

more of Pritchard and “The Corner” this year as she expands her advertising efforts into downtown. “Fair H ave n Concerned is just one of the great businesses in this corner and so many people don’t know they are here,” Pritchard said. “I want to make people aware that we are here and ready to serve the community.” The origin story of Finder’s Keepers is founded in Pritchard’s love of antiques and “old stuff.” “It has so much charnew. acter and I have been working with antiques and several auctioneers for the past 20 years,” she said. “I have been actively buying and selling antiques and used furniture for the past 10 years out of my garage.” Pritchard’s “clean out business” was blossoming and as a result she was accumulating a lot of household items. It was then that she decided to expand and “get my garage back.” And so Finder’s Keepers was born. Finder’s Keepers is located at 61 Main St. in Fair Haven, Vermont. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed Tuesdays. Call 802-278-8196 for more information.

Slate Town Brewing Company

Glens Falls Hospital

Coming soon to Main Street in Granville

Here through it all

Susan Knapp and Glenn Wetherell’s dream of opening their own brewery is getting closer to coming to fruition. After home brewing beer and operating a local cidery for more than a decade, the pair has secured a location on Main Street in Granville where it plans to open “Slate Town Brewing Company.” Both Knapp and Wetherell planned on opening a brewery for years, but got really serious about finding a physical location seven or eight months ago. They said they couldn’t think of a better place than Main Street to open their brewery. When the opportunity to purchase the Main Street building arose last year, they acted on it. The future brewpub is located at 35-37 Main St. Slate Town, which is set to open this spring, is going to have a taproom, rather than a bar-like, atmosphere. It’ll serve “pub grub” and have a children’s menu. Slate Town will serve its beer – IPAs, pale ales, stouts and seasonal brews – by the glass, but it’ll also have pints, tasting flights, crowlers and growlers for sale. Local ciders and wines will also be available. Wetherell has experimented with his

own brews at home for more than a decade, under the name Hopshed Brewery. He also works as the head hard cider maker at Slyboro Ciderhouse in Granville. Knapp owned and operated Hick’s Apple Orchard for the last 22 years. When she left that position, she went searching for her next endeavor. The pair has been busy outfitting the former craft store to become its brewpub. Large cooking vessels and holding tanks stand against a pallet wood wall at the rear of the brewery. Coming soon will be an outdoor beer garden, complete with decorative fencing, hanging lights and fire pits. “Customers will be able to see and go back there,” Wetherell said, mentioning plans for adding public tours and brewing classes. Eventually, the owners would like to host live music nights, Sunday blues brunches and Farm-to-Table community events. The owners would also like to eventually get Slate Town listed on the Craft Beer Trail. “It’s a huge vehicle to bring people into the area,” Knapp said.

Area's lowest fuel prices

Fair Haven/Poultney Auto Supply Poultney's location.

Where customer service isn't just a catch phrase In today’s world, it’s important to support the roots in your community. By supporting the roots in your community, your locally-owned businesses will be here to stay. When you order from an 800 number or order from a website, do you really know who you are talking to or dealing with? Or how many times have you ordered something online and found out you needed another piece of the puzzle? What about getting that part you ordered on line and finding out the part is faulty? When you try and call or email to return it and get your money back you get the run around or maybe wait another week for the part to be reshipped. At Fair Haven/Poultney Auto Supply, you will be face to face with auto part professionals. Don’t order from a website or 800 number and wait days. Jimmer Eagan and Al Macomber can have most parts in a day or two and, in most cases, with no shipping charges unless items are special-ordered. “Customer service” isn’t just a catch phrase at Fair Haven and Poultney Auto Supply stores, it’s a 45-plus-year tradition. A tradition that Sam and Jeanette Macomber started with the quality goal of providing quality auto parts and excellent customer service and one that Eagan of the Fair Haven Store and

Macomber of the Poultney Store, have continued to carry on. Employing that approach has helped the business maintain a loyal customer base for more than four decades. “We’ve kept the same customers because we knock ourselves out for them,” Egan said. “My guys will go the extra mile for them, and if someone else can do a job better than we can, we are not afraid to refer our customers to somebody else. I do not think that many other places do that.” Egan further points out that the two stores not only meet customers’ automotive needs, but also have parts for everything from lawn tractors to trucks, even carrying marine batteries. “We can fix just about anything with an engine,” Egan claims. He said that Fair Haven/Poultney always chooses the top-end parts and carries a complete supply of tools for customers to use when they tackle that next automotive project. The stores are located on the Main Street of their respective towns, an easy drive from Granville or Whitehall. Both are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The stores are closed on Sundays. For further information, call Fair Haven at 802-265-3012, and ask for Jim, or ask for Al in Poultney at 802287-9211.

Joe and Hillary Rozell, owners of Rozell Energy Co. Inc. in Whitehall, offer their customers the area’s lowest fuel prices and can deliver right away! Rozell Energy Co. Inc. offers fuel oil, kerosene and on- and off-road diesel. “There’s no reason to go out of town,” We’re here every day,” Joe Rozell said. “Give us a call. You would be surprised at our prices. Out of town companies have schedules, where they may be here just once a week. We recently added our own transport truck to give us a better price on fuel, so we can pass it on to our customers,” Joe Rozell said. The Rozells established their businesses in Whitehall because this is their home and they are all about supporting their community. “We were born and raised here and we’re raising our family here,” Joe Rozell said. Joe and Hillary Rozell also give back to their community by helping- out will all the fundraisers in the community and are both active members of the Whitehall Elks Lodge.

In 2001, the Rozells started JR Unlimited which offers snow plowing, snow removal, excavating, driveways, cellar holes, lot clearing, septic systems, trucking, demolition, crushed stone, and land erosion control to make sure residents had a local answer to any of their property needs. Both businesses are constantly growing. They have two full-time and two part-time employees. Recently the company purchased a 3,000-square-foot shop to store and maintain their equipment, a further savings on truck maintenance they can pass on to their customers. When the Rozells are not running their businesses, they are spending time with one another, their family and enjoying the great outdoors; hunting, fishing and boating. To get information on the best area fuel prices, snow services and all-of your excavation needs, call Rozell Energy Co. Inc. and JR Unlimited today at 518-4999500.

Skene Valley Agency Inc.

Warner's Auto Body of Granville

Tom Abbott, Maria Hyatt and Connor Hoagland

A one-stop financial stop Skene Valley Agency Inc. is a locally owned insurance agency which prides itself on customer service and availability. The agency has three offices in Washington County and employs eight people. The agency was started in 2002 by John Hoagland and grew from its one location in Whitehall to buying the Shaw Agency in 2009 located in Granville and then opening Battenkill Valley Insurance in Cambridge in 2011. In addition, Skene Valley Agency has a broker-producing business in Gloversville and very recently brought on a broker in Berlin, New York, the Taconic Mountain Agency. “We are very excited about our growth potential with the Taconic Mountain Agency,” said Vice President Connor Hoagland. “Laura Saunders runs that agency and is very insurance savvy and already has built a nice book of customers.” Connor Hoagland came on board in early 2017 and while he handles all insurance lines, his focus is on commercial business. With the addition of new carriers recently, namely Liberty Mutual Commercial and Met Life Home and Auto, the agency has the ability to handle most any insurance need. The agency is licensed in New York, Vermont and Florida.

In addition to Property and Casualty insurance, Skene Valley Agency has a working relationship with Adirondack Financial Services in Glens Falls that allow their customers access to retirement and investment planning. “We are truly a one-stop financial stop for our customers” said John Hoagland. One new feature this past year is a new phone system. “All the old phone numbers still work, but now we do have one number that will allow you to choose which office you want to speak to” said Connor Hoagland. “We now have the ability to transfer calls directly to any person in any office. The new number is 518-948-2928.” In addition to the phone system the agency website allows customers to go online and request a quote, link directly to a company to pay bills or report claims. When you call Skene Valley Agency during regular business hours, you’ll get a person on the phone and not a recording to leave a message. All customers need to do is hit the prompt for the office they want to speak to and one of the agents in that office will be there and pick up that phone, or it will automatically roll into one of the other offices if that person does not pick up. Hours for the office are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends and evenings by appointment.

Whitney's West Side Styles Old school, not old fashioned In 1973 Mary Whitney opened her beauty salon. For many years it was through “word of mouth” that her business grew. After 44 years, Whitney must be doing something right. Considered to be old school in the way she runs her business but not old fashioned, Whitney’s salon is small, simple and she tries to be accommodating to her clientele. Clients travel from as far away as Schuylerville; Fair Haven, Vermont; Poultney, Vermont; Hartford; Fort Ann; and Whitehall. Whitney graduated from Granville High School in 1968 after which she finished the BOCES program of Cosmetology in 1970. Whitney worked in the beauty salon at Howlands from March 1970 to December 1973. “I’m so blessed,” she said. “God has blessed me and my family. The gift and talent I have for my occupation comes from the Lord and I thank him every

Country Horizon Realty

Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union Growing with members as we offer convenient online banking services

Rebecca Dittmeier and Nancy Green

In business for over 34 years Country Horizon Realty located at 4 East Main St. is owned and operated by Rebecca Dittmeier who has been in the real estate business in this area for over 34 years. Rebecca is a licensed Real Estate Broker in both New York and Vermont. Country Horizon Realty is also represented by Nancy Greene who is a licensed New York State Associate Broker and a licensed Vermont State Broker. Both of these women grew up in this area, and now one lives in NY and the other in VT and know the area very well. They are a strong team and have worked together for more than 13 years offering Personalized, Professional Service to both sellers and buyers. Being licensed in both states makes it much easier to provide the service needed and requested for both buyers and sellers in our area. Since many people are flexible about which state they live in it gives buyers and sellers more opportunities. For the sellers it increases the number of people who may be interested in their properties. Their activity on Lake St. Catherine continues to increase in both listing and selling properties. In a nutshell Country Horizon Realty lists and sells properties by either representing sellers or buyers. While they certainly sell many of their own listings when representing the seller and working with buyer customers, they also sell listings from other agencies when working directly for the buyers. Many people still don’t realize that Rebecca and Nancy can show any listing, from any

agency, on the market. If it is listed with someone else that agency is representing the seller so they can represent you as a buyer for those properties. If you are looking to buy or sell real estate in NY or VT give them a call at 518-642-9030 and they will be happy to work for you. Their interest is in making sure that your real estate needs are handled in a friendly, personalized, professional manner; matching buyers to the right piece of property. Over the years the real estate business has changed substantially with more regulations and requirements and much more is done online. The majority of buyers start their searches for real estate online. But some things remain the same and that is an old fashion commitment to you the client. Listening to your needs and translating that into action and results. Rebecca happens to own a yarn shop that is also in the same building as the real estate business but make no mistake, Real Estate is her full time job. The real estate company increased it’s business again over the previous year. That is good news for anyone looking to sell or buy. “We are busy, high energy people and a busy person is who you want working for you. We get things done.” Like them on facebook. Call one these hardworking women for assistance with your next purchase or sale. You can also reach Nancy at 518-744-1017 or Rebecca at 518-361-3464 on their cell phones where you can call or text if you need something.

Falls Farm and Garden Equipment Company Inc. The power equipment center of the North Country Falls Farm and Garden Equipment Company Inc. has been billed as the “power equipment center of the North Country,” and with a knowledgeable and experienced staff of employees and a full line of product and services, it’s easy to see why. Whether you own and operate a 200 acre dairy farm or are looking for a lawn mower to tend to your lawn, Falls Farm and Garden has you covered. The company offers a full selection of in-stock lawn and garden, compact four wheel drive, utility tractors, utility vehicles, commercial mowers, tillers, snow blowers, chippers, walk-behind mowers and much more. It also carries a large selection of John Deere equipment, as well as used farm tractors and attachments, and industrial equipment like backhoes, bull dozers and excavators. And because the company is partnered with a number of professional funding companies, they are able to offer low rate financing options. Falls Farm and Garden is also a master parts and service provider for Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, Honda, Kawasaki, and Kohler engines and carries products from Husquarvna, Simplicity, Stihl, Simplicty and many other brands. Tim Havens started Falls Farm and Garden Equipment more than 35 years ago.

“After working in the industry, I decided I wanted to start my own business,” he said. With only a pick-up truck and $3,000, Havens launched the business in a rented facility in Hudson Falls on Dec. 1, 1982. The business quickly outgrew its original location and in 1985 Havens broke ground on a 1,200 square foot addition. But in only two years, it became clear the business was growing faster and a new location would be needed. In 1988, Havens moved to his current location at 1115 Dix Avenue in Hudson Falls and the business has continued to grow and expand and now employs 20 people, each of whom has a combined experience of over 250 years in the tractor and equipment industry. “We’ve never laid off an employee. We work hard to support our employees,” Havens said. The company also works hard to support the local community. Falls Farm and Garden sponsors local youth sports team, is a longtime advocate of the FFA and agriculture, a loyal supporter of Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574, and a sponsor of the Washington County Fair. After more than 35 years in business, Havens said he and his staff are dedicated to providing their patrons with the best possible service. “Doing business with a local mer-

Wade Bisonette, Tim Havens, owner, and Dan Hamilton chant assures you of personal service, fair dealing and a prompt response to all your service needs,” he said. In September 2016 Havens and wife Jane opened Calamity Jane’s Firearms and Fine Shoes directly across from Falls Farm and Garden which boasts an inventory of more than 750 handguns and rifles in stock. Calamity Jane’s carries everything an avid sportsman needs for hunting and shooting and also carries a variety of conceal/carry hand bags. For those not interested in firearms

and shooting sports, Calamity Jane’s also carries a wide selection of designer shoes. In his free time, Havens enjoys collecting toys trucks and tractors, and antique equipment. He also promotes tractor pulls and was the Motorsports Superintendent at the Washington County Fair for over 20 years, starting big rig pull, the 4x4 truck pulls and the demolition derby. Falls Farm and Garden can be contacted at 747-5252 and customers can visit its website at www.fallsfarm.com.

Robert M. King Funeral Home Service at a time of need People are touched, lives are honored, healing ceremonies are created and the funeral is a vital and important part of the marking of the passing of a life. We have accepted the reality that meeting the needs of our families must take on a new look and new approach. We strive to make each family’s experience as meaningful to them as possible. With the family’s input, we can provide a truly unique and memorable service that honors the life and legacy of their loved one. The economic concerns our world is facing have altered what people can spend; we try to provide a memorable tribute for the loved one of the families we serve and stay within their financial boundaries. Many things we do on a daily basis cost nothing but mean the world to our

families. There is no price for caring attention and satisfying our customer’s needs. Charlie and Mary, both licensed funeral directors, strive to serve Granville and the surrounding area with care and dignity for the families and their loved ones. They both stay attuned to the new trends of the industry and are very active in the community. Both have served as past presidents of the Adirondack Funeral Directors Association and serve as committee members for the New York State Funeral Directors Association as well as being members of the association. Charlie and Mary are active in various capacities in our community. Both are active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Pember Library

and Museum. Other staff at the Robert M. King Funeral Home includes licensed director Michael Angiolillo. In keeping with the firm’s constant desire to bring the best to local families, Mary became a certified funeral celebrant. This is a person who has been trained in the specific area of conducting funerals for families who wish to have a personalized and individualized funeral service experience. Our society has become much more mobile and less tied to the church. Many people not affiliated with religion or theologies do not have a clergy person on whom to call in the times of death. Also many people are not comfortable with a traditional religious funeral ceremony. Therefore, a funeral celebrant can guide them through conducting a

funeral experience that honors the loved one and celebrates their life. This family-owned firm will be glad to provide information or assistance in preplanning, as well as at-need service for your family. We also have available a full line of cremation and memorialization products as well as pet memorialization products. We have just remodeled our conference room to make it more relaxing and less stressful for planning. Our goal is to make the celebration of your loved one’s life our priority, by providing you with dignified, professional and memorable service at your time of need. Robert M. King Funeral Home is located at 23 Church St., Granville; 6421112.
