Moonlight Ski The Wilton Wildlife Preserve will present its annual Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Camp Saratoga at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve in Gansevoort. Luminaries will glow along 2.5 miles of groomed trails. Along the way participants will find fields and forests, warming bonfires and plenty of hot chocolate. There will be a bake sale of homemade goodies in the Winter Lodge The terrain is suitable for all levels and ages and includes a smaller one-mile loop. Snowshoes will be available on a first-come first-served

basis in the Winter Lodge off of Parking Lot 2. The rental fee is $5 for non-members. The event is free, but registration is required. Join Pember staff at the Porter Schoolhouse entrance to the Pember Nature Preserve on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. for a talk on owls followed by a hike. Participants will discover the differences between hawks and owls. There will be specimens for viewing, wings and talons for touching along with owl calls. Following the talk, the group will venture down the trails in search of owl calls. Organizers are hoping the moon will shine brightly but participants will still need a headlamp or flashlight and should wear appropriate footgear. This hike will be of moderate difficulty and is open to all ages. Hot cocoa will be served following the hike. Winterfest Winter is no reason to stay indoors – in fact, it’s the perfect opportunity to go outside and have some fun during Hudson Crossing Park’s third annual Winterfest on Sunday, Jan. 20 from noon to 3 p.m. “No Snow” date Sunday, Feb. 17, from noon to 3 p.m. This year’s theme is “Han Snowlo: A Winterfest Story,” and the public is invited to join Rebel Forces for an afternoon of free, familyfriendly winter activities. Winterfest 2019 will offer visitors to the park the chance to learn about ice harvesting and watch a cold-water rescue demonstration by the Schuylerville Fire Department on the Champlain Canal, enjoy sledding, snow bowling and contests. Families can also conduct science experiments and go on a guided Birding for Beginners walk, enjoy a horse-drawn sled ride and keep warm at the bonfire while they enjoy pizza from and snacks from the bake sale. Winterfest is free and open to the public, although donations are always gratefully accepted.
