Ice Fishing Day Vermont residents and visitors alike can go ice-fishing on any lake in the state on Saturday, Jan. 26. Acquiring a fishing license is normally a necessary first step to fishing in Vermont, but on Free Ice Fishing Day licenses are not required, so long as anglers follow fishing regulations. Interested anglers can head out to any body of water in Vermont on their own on Jan. 26, but may be interested in going to Knight Point State Park in North Hero for a free ice-fishing demonstration, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., by staff from Vermont Fish & Wildlife and instructors from the Let’s Go Fishing Program. Ice-fishing basics, including knot-tying, drilling holes, rigging and using an ice fishing rod, ice safety, and preparing for a day on the ice, will be taught.
