As part of Granville’s First Friday festivities, the Slate Valley Museum will host Trout Unlimited for a presentation on fly fishing the Mettowee River on Friday, May 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. Join Trout Unlimited to learn some of the secrets of fishing the Mettowee and the Battenkill. Devoted to conservation and maintaining pristine waterways, Trout Unlimited is a national steward of our rivers and streams. The Pember will be Peeping on Granville’s First Friday, May 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. The museum is sponsoring a Peeps diorama contest, and all participants and the public are invited to attend to see the entries on display and then vote for the Peeple’s Choice Award. Dioramas may be on any theme, as long as it is familyfriendly, that is, suitable for all audiences. Diorama parts should all fit inside a box with a maximum size of 15”x24”x15”. One or more sides of the box may be removed. All visible parts of the diorama should be decorated, and all characters in the scene should be made using Peeps. Registration forms are available at the Pember and should be completed and dropped off at the Pember by Friday, April 26. Participants can bring their dioramas – one entry per person or team – to the Pember on Friday, May 3, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dioramas will remain on display the following week and must be picked up by Wednesday, May 15. Concert Crandall Public Library will host “Wasn’t That a Time,” a Pete Seeger centennial program on Friday, May 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This free program is presented by The Egg Center for the Performing Arts as part of the “New York Living Legacy” series. Likely the best-known folk singer of all time, Pete Seeger’s career as a musician was highlighted by great popular success with the group The Weavers and songs such as “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “Turn, Turn, Turn” and “If I Had a Hammer”; Grammy Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, a National Medal of Arts, induction into the Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame; and author of one of the most influential instrumental instruction books ever published “How to Play the 5-String Banjo.” He used his music to further social, humanitarian and environmental causes – most notably in the founding of the Clearwater in an effort to save the Hudson River. The Egg will present the program “Wasn’t That a Time” featuring music writer Jesse Jarnow. Live music will be performed by banjoist Richie Stearns and folk fiddler Rosie Newton.
