May 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. One of many exhibits visitors will want to see is “Up Home: Hand-Colored Photographs by Susanne and Neil Rappaport.” At 11 a.m., visitors can join Eileen Travell, senior photographer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and museum curator Jamie Franklin for an up-close gallery exploration of the Rappaport exhibit. Minnie Griswold died in 1952, at which time her sons locked up their mother’s house in Pawlet, Vermont, and left all her belongings in place, untouched and unaltered. Thirty years later, Pawlet documentarians Susanne and Neil Rappaport were invited into Minnie’s home. The Rappaports went on to produce a collection of hand-colored photographs of her home and possessions. This exhibit brings together the best in documentary work and artistic expression. Between 1 and 4:30 p.m., visitors can try their hand at handcoloring in the Paresky Wing to see how photographs take on a whole new dimension after being colored.
