First Friday First Friday at the Slate Valley Museum is all about history this month. The museum will host an opening reception for a new exhibit, “Glory Days: An Era of Industry,” on Friday, June 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. A gallery talk will take place on Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m.,

and the exhibit will run through Tuesday, Sept. 17. “Glory Days” portrays the growth of industry along the Battenkill, the Mettowee and the Indian rivers from the mid19th century until the present. These rivers powered the mills and factories that flourished along their shores from as far back as the 1700s. The exhibit is curated by Salem historian Judy Flagg, Washington County Historical Society research assistant Sally Brillon and artist Elizabeth Cockey, who is the author of “Untold Stories of the Battenkill,” a book of art and photography inspired by the beauty of the Battenkill. Balloon Festival The 19th annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival will take place June 7-9 in and around Cambridge. Launches will take place at Cambridge Central School on Route 22 with evening launches at around 7 p.m. and morning launches at around 5:30 a.m., wind and weather permitting. The festival kicks off Friday evening with a block party and candlestick glow on Main Street, followed by a fireworks display at the Mansion at South Union Park behind Cambridge Village Market. On Saturday, a Taste of Cambridge showcases local food producers and restaurants. This event is followed by the annual Moon Glow, a spectacular evening display of hot air balloons illuminated from within that light up in rhythm to music provided by a DJ. Local organizations will augment the festival on Saturday with activities between balloon launches, including craft fairs, farmers’ market, museum tour, open houses, concerts and more. The Lions Club will host a car show and The Cambridge Valley Flying Club will offer a “Fly-In/Aviation Day” at Chapin Field. Sunday brings an end to the official festival activities with a Pilots Breakfast at the Cambridge American Legion on Route 22. This is a great

Concert Fair Haven’s summer concert series will kick off on Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the park with The Starline Rhythm Boys.
