Running of the Tories set for Aug. 7 The Arlington Recreation Park, in collaboration with the Battenkill Valley Runners, will hold the second annual “Running of the Tories,” a 5K Run/Walk Riverside Race, at 9:00 am on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Arlington Recreation Park. A one mile Fun Run will follow at 10:00 am on the fitness trail. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Arlington Recreation Park. Dick Bailey, Race Chairperson, said the “Running of the Tories” was steeped in early American history. In keeping with the chase, there will be a prize for the runner who catches the Tory. Awards will also be given to the top three male and female finishers and special awards for the oldest finisher and for the youngest child. There will be awards for the top five walkers. The race starts at 9:00 am at the Pavilion in the Arlington Recreation Park, with registration beginning 7:30 am. The 5K race follows the soft dirt road along the Battenkill

River and crosses the Battenkill at the Rochester Bridge to Route 313, then, follows the edge of Rte 313, past Tory Lane and in to the Recreation Park. In the park, the course follows a soft running surface on the edge of the golf course, runs along the Battenkill and on the fitness trail, ending on the lawn in front of the pavilion. The 1 mile Fun Run starts at 10:00 am and will follow the fitness trail. For online registration go to www.active.com. Same day entry fees are $15.00 for individuals, $5.00 for children under age 14, and $40.00 for a special family of four package with discounts for early registration and members of the Battenkill Valley Runners. Race participants will be able to use the Park’s facilities for picnicking, swimming, golf, tennis and canoeing or kayaking on the Battenkill River. Overnight accommodations are available at Arlington’s inns, Bed and Breakfasts, and local campgrounds. For more information on registration, entry fees and discounts go to www.toryrun.on1. net or email race@on1.net.

Library to present Auditions to be held in Dorset summer film series Get away to Paris at the Mark Skinner Library on Wednesday, August 3 at 6:30 pm when the Summer Getaway Film Series presents “Gigi”, considered the last of the great Hollywood musicals. Man-about-town Gaston (Louis Jourdan) offers them all to Gigi (Leslie Caron). But this courtesan-in-training, who’s gone from girlish gawkiness to cultured glamour, yearns for something money can’t buy. The film was shot on location in Paris in 1958 and won all nine Academy Awards that it was nominated for, more than any other film at that point in Oscar history. This bit of charming entertainment also features Maurice Chevalier and Hermione Gingold and the classic tune “I Remember It Well”. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. The library is located at 48 West Rd. in Manchester Village. Info: (802)362.2607.
