Orr to exhibit in Dorset Andrew Orr of Poultney is presenting his work in a solo show at the Dorset Pubic Library for the month of July. You may meet the artist at the opening reception, to which all are invited, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9. Orr began painting at an early age. His training includes courses at the University of New Mexico, private study with impressionist Carol McIlroy and Gloucester artist, David P. Curtis. His work has shown in galleries throughout the United States, has won awards with juried exhibitions and has been featured in one-man shows from Wa s h i n g t o n , D. C . and Albuquerque to Cincinnati. In the Northeast his work has been featured with three solo exhibitions at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, and displayed with national exhibitions of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionists Society, the Hudson Valley Art Association, American Artists Professional League and the Salmagundi Club. He is the winner of the Helen DeCozen Memorial Award for a Floral, from the American Artists Professional League 81st Grand National Exhibition, twice the winner of the Arthur T. Hill Memorial Award for a landscape by an artist under 45 years of age from the Salmagundi Club Annual Member’s Exhibition as well as a recipient of the Barbara Carter Fine Gilded Frames Award of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America, National Exhibition in 2008. In addition to serving as both judge and juror, he is a recognized instructor giving frequent

workshops, demonstrations and lectures on the art of painting on porcelain and in watercolor throughout the United States and abroad. In October 2005, Orr participated as the guest artist/lecturer at the convention, show and sale of the Australasian International Porcelain Artist League, in Adelaide, South Australia. This honor was repeated in 2008 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Andrew combines impressionism and touches of realism to create paintings that reflect his love of nature and beauty. His paintings are direct and rich, with clear color, expressing his passion for light and life. “For me,” Andrew says, “painting is about expressing the joy and excitement I feel through colors and brush strokes, after having come upon a scene that has sparked an internal, emotional response; that response causes one to internally say, ‘I have to paint this.’ I create art as part of my desire to help bring something of aesthetic beauty to the world. My paintings are about joy, about my curiosity and intrigue with objects, old and new, about those things that inspire me, that give me a reason to get out of bed to see what the world has in store for that day.” The public is invited to the opening reception with coffee and refreshments. All works on display are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the library. For information, please visit www.dorsetlibrary. org or call the library at 802-8675774. More of Andrew’s work can be seen online at andreworr.com and at his studio/gallery, Winding River Gallery in Poultney.

Instructors Michelle and Jay Cavallaro lead this week-long course in producing a short film of animations and showcasing the creative process. The group explores a wide range of stop-motion and animation techniques, and learns the basics of clay animation— including transformations (morphing one shape into another), armatures (the structures underneath the clay), walk cycles (the mechanics of making an animated character walk) and lip-syncing (matching lip movements with voice). Students also learn the basics of paper cut-out and silhouette
