GIN BLACK SMOKER GIN
The concept and development of a new gin is always exciting news to a Ginnolier, especially when it’s local. So, the announcement that Cyprus is producing a new artisan gin is newsworthy on a cosmopolitan scale. Following several years of the Gin Boom, the conception of yet another gin in an already saturated market may be considered foolhardy by the major players and producers. However, especially following the limitations imposed by the pandemic, we are seeing a significant move by the gin consumer away from the established brands on supermarket shelves and towards small batch gin distilleries and artisan craft gin makers. Lockdown had its benefits! Black Smokers Gin is everything we expect, and more! The name itself is not descriptive, and there are no smoky or oily aromas or tones to this gin. It proudly declares itself a gin named for the distinctive Troodos Mountain ophiolite. The first hints of this artisan gin’s origin present itself as you open the stoppered smoky, opaque, black bottle. A cacophony of aromas but angelica with its notes of earth, musk, celery, pepper, herbs, and just a hint of warm citrus, rises dominant. It entices your nose and palate for just a sip - a touch on the lips (not from the bottle
of course!). And then the pine, peppercorns and Mediterranean herbs rise up slowly, majestically. Angelica is an ideal component to anchor the bright, citrusy and pine fragrances of this gin, as although it provides an earthy core, which is again reflective and emotive with regards to its name’s source, the gin has a light and surprisingly fresh palate. Black peppercorns Stanna Wieclawska Kyriakou
add warmth and spice, and whilst the juniper is not a leading note or flavour, its balance is skilled and allows the blend of a dozen, individually chosen botanicals, to stake their claim in this gin. Its notes of coriander, oregano, pine and peppercorns evoke memories of warm Mediterranean tavernas and offer a complexity in aroma that is rare in massproduced gins. This gin’s triumph is in its tasting though. It is incredibly fresh and herbaceous. Zesty, citrus flavours and that last tang of peppercorn. Sublime. Truly. Nose: ‘Mediterranean and Herbaceous, with angelica & citrus fruits Palate: Zesty & herbaceous, with angelica & pine Finish: Long & lingering, with peppercorn & orange 40% ABV
BUSINESS Secure Corporate and Domestic Storage in Cyprus
Change is bound to happen. Renovation, relocation, remodelling. All these rank as one of the most stressful life events. Your life and work are disrupted as you make adjustments and changes to your daily routine. Additionally, organising, packing and keeping track of your belongings is a hassle. Then, once you move, you have to figure out where to put all your items. Luckily, you can take away some of that stress by storing your possessions at Peter Morton Removals storage facilities! At PMR, one of the core values is to make customers life as stress-free as possible. Renovation, Relocation and Remodelling, do not have to be stressful life events. Due to increased demand a few years ago, Peter Morton made a considerable investment and sourced a dedicated, massive storage facility on a 7,500 square meter site. Right now, it is ranked as the largest and safest storage facility in Cyprus. At PMR, the storage crates are made of wood and are 250 cubic ft each in size. The storage facilities are approved by BAR (British Association of Removers) and all crates are manufactured and imported from the UK. It’s easy to store items anywhere, but our warehouse is both convenient and protected. Considering your belongings’ safety ahead of time will save you the stress of having to replace something later or potentially losing something irreplaceable, expensive or dear to your heart. Additionally, the warehouse itself and all goods that are in the store are fully insured! With the recent increase in Cyprus crime rates, storing valuable goods at home doesn’t seem like a safe option any longer. Unlike houses, storage facilities offer more security to stored items. At Peter Morton Removals, the whole facility is covered by a state-of-the-art security system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three freerunning guard dogs also patrol the premises. It is, therefore, wiser to store valuable items in a
storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. The redelivery process works exactly the same but in
reverse. Every crate that arrives at the warehouse is logged on to the computer system. You can access your domestic storage crates at any time by appointment with the office. At PMR, we always suggest to our clients that they come and look at the storage facility. If you want to store your goods, you need to be very sure of where they going and what conditions they will be stored in. We welcome potential customers to come and view our facility, so you can see for yourself and be confident in your decision to use us.
HEARING Hard time hearing people in face
masks? Hearing aids can help with Economou Hearing
Face masks have unequivocally been a good thing when it comes to helping prevent the spread of Covid-19. But they present challenges when trying to communicate with others. Especially if you or the person you’re communicating with has hearing loss. Face masks muffle speech and block important lip-reading cues. Both are key to understanding speech. Add in social distancing or group video chats — which have nothing to do with masks but plenty to do with speech audibility — and Covid has definitely made it a lot harder to hear what friends, family members, colleagues, doctors and dentists, and the clerk scanning your groceries are saying. Hearing aids make hearing easier It should be no surprise, though, that hearing aids offset these challenges and can help make it easier to hear people who are wearing face masks. By their very nature, hearing aids amplify sound which, in many cases, is all it takes to hear what face-mask wearers are saying. Evolv AI hearing aids can help even more Starkey’s Evolv AI hearing aids have been engineered to go above and beyond simple sound amplification to specifically tackle the challenges created by face masks, social distancing and background noise. They include our proprietary Edge Mode technology — available in all Evolv AI hearing aids — which has been proven to be highly effective in resolving speech intelligibility issues caused by masks. How? By putting the power of artificial intelligence (AI) at your fingertips. Just a double tap of your hearing aids activates Edge Mode anytime you need it. Once activated, Edge Mode scans the acoustic environment you’re in, then instantly optimizes sound — taking masks, distance and background noise into consideration — to deliver enhanced speech audibility on demand. Not only is Edge Mode great for masks, it’s handy to have anytime you encounter a noisy or particularly challenging listening environment. Our new Mask Mode, too, was specifically designed to make people who are wearing masks easier to hear. Mask Mode is a custom memory in our Thrive app that offsets the loss of speech audibility due to face masks by boosting sound in the affected regions. Mask Mode is available on all Evolv AI hearing aids. To experience how far hearing aids have come and what they can do for you, simply call at 77772627 and book a free hearing appointment with one of our hearing healthcare professionals in your area who can test your hearing and consult with you about treatment options available.

COMBATING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Cyprus to crack down on domestic violence against women “The elimination of violence against women is an issue of high priority for the Republic of Cyprus,” said the President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou during a recent event in Nicosia. Demetriou was speaking at the event organised by the Irish Embassy on the occasion of St Brigid’s Day, during which Irish diplomatic missions celebrate women’s creativity, leadership and talent in Ireland and around the world, and had as its central theme the prevention and response to genderbased violence. How are women and girls protected?
Women victims of domestic violence in Cyprus have legal access to protection measures including temporary protection orders restraining the suspect from contact with the victim, as well as restraining orders prohibiting perpetrators from entering or remaining in the marital home.
Cyprus has transposed Directive 2012/29/EU establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime, implementing national legislation in April 2016 (19), which ensures that women victims of genderbased violence receive specialised support services.
Public officers of the Ministries of Health, Education, Justice and Public Order (Police) and Labour and Social Insurance (Social Welfare Services) have a mandatory duty to report to the Attorney’s General’s Office any referrals where concerns, suspicions or evidence of family violence exist, including domestic violence. Additionally, any person who is aware of and omits to report a case of violence against a minor, or against a person with severe mental or psychological deficiencies, commits an offence (20).
