Honor Every four years, a collection of the world’s best athletes are brought together to showcase years of preparation. Millions tune in to view the broadcast, unconsciously taking in a wonderful ideal of unity among cultures. As celebrations spew forward from each competition, viewers also have another image carefully planted in their minds. Picture the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists from each competition. What do you recall each of them doing with their medals? The iconic medal-biting shot captured by photographers is a tradition that seems to connect value with honor. While the Gold medal is made of over 90% silver, and the Bronze medal being comprised of copper, the greater image is what we all have accepted. Could you imagine publications trying to distinguish the champions according to what the actual composite materials consist of? Of course not! Our thoughts and emotions are driven by images. This is the reason for the perpetual medalbiting image. It is because of this perceived value that the esteemed Gold medalist is thrusted into areas of growth – the growth needed to perform even greater during the next competition as well as the growth needed to perform in areas outside of their training like commercials, interviews and endorsements. Honor is the seed for growth. It is important to understand that you cannot receive honor before you have first given it. It would be selfish for the athlete that did not honor his/her coaches, properly training, or showing up and performing at a level necessary to win to expect to be honored with the Gold medal. This is true for every athlete that decides to bring home the Gold, and for each one of us that desire to achieve anything in our lives. Assess areas of your life (relationships, finances, health and spirituality), and ask yourself “What have I chosen to honor.” “What things are growing and flourishing in my life?” “What things in my life are withering and dying?” For each of the areas in life we are given time and instruction. Those are two powerful resources given to us daily. How well do we honor those? Decide today what areas you desire to grow and look for ways to give honor. Give honor in your thoughts, your words and your actions towards the thing(s) you desire and watch things begin to grow.

REVIEW

WHO ARE YOU AS A COUPLE? Before we were married, both of us were actively and audaciously doing the work of God in his army. The theme of our wedding “When Warriors Meet”. We believe that description of us have not changed. We remain as two of God’s powerful and inspiring Kingdom warriors for an end time ministry. We are a passionate son and daughter of Father God. Over time, we have discovered our spheres of influence collectively in the realms of business, family and government. We believe that we function as a Kingdom family to be an example to families for such a time as this. WHAT THINGS DO YOU ADMIRE ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE? JOSHUA CABLE: I admire my wife’s extroverted personality, her love for God and her family, her patience and acceptance to live, support and encourage me as her husband; her commitment to be beautiful whenever she goes in public; I admire her strong faith in God no matter the circumstance; her ability to creatively get a job when she puts her mind to it.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOURSELF TO FUNCTION AS YOUR BEST SELF IN YOUR ROLE AS A SPOUSE? JOSHUA CABLE: I totally pray for God to correct and cleanse me of the areas that are revealed in my heart that tamper my relationship with my wife. From time to time I come across things that focus on marital development that I use to help me in my role. Sparingly, I ask my wife if there is anything she sees in me that I need to improve upon. If for any reason I do something dishonoring towards her, I will humble myself to apologize to remove all grudges.

MONICA CABLE: I admire my beloved husband’s passion to be a man after God’s own heart. He remains humble and pure in his heart and doesn’t allow pride to drive or ride.

MONICA CABLE: I have to pray for the Spirit of God to help me to be my best self. I commit to humbling myself to serve with gladness rather than always wanting to be served. I am reminded of the gift of having a spouse and being a spouse and I am grateful; with thanksgiving I gladly become intentional about being better.

love and

MINISTRY

HOW DO YOU UTILIZE YOUR DIFFERENCES INDIVIDUALLY AS ASSETS TO YOU AS A COUPLE? JOSHUA CABLE: My difference is that I am an introvert, timely, focused, strategic, a thinker, entrepreneurial, responsible, efficient, creative, apostolic and prophetic. As I have embraced these characteristics of myself it has helped me to lessen personal frustrations that I get from time to time if my wife doesn’t portray them. She certainly has some of these at some level, but we are still two different people. When she is deficient, I can take up the slack. MONICA CABLE: I am an extrovert. When there are times when my husband won’t speak, I will speak out and speak up. I enjoy being around people, so I encourage us to seek more relationships with others when he wants to be alone. WHAT DOES PARTNERSHIP IN MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU? It means two people making a commitment as a team to spend the rest of their lives together to do life and exemplify what a relationship with Christ looks like; it means deliverance ministry; whatever challenges you have personally ALL HIDDEN DEMONS are exposed. It means you are making a covenant to drop all selfish thinking and actions. Marriage is about us/we and not I/me. AS PARTNERS IN MARRIAGE, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL? WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE TO OBTAIN IT? Building our house is important because we understand the importance of multi-generational wealth and legacy. We want to initiate a new movement in our family lineage that will break many of the generational curses that we have seen. As a sacrifice, we are willing to study to learn what it takes to invest financially and , risk being strange in the eyes of others who don’t understand our vision and breakthrough the barriers within ourselves to stop the vicious cycles of family bondages.

WHO IS THE MR AND MRS THAT PEOPLE DON’T GET TO SEE? JOSHUA CABLE: for Mrs. Cable, most people don’t know that she loves her some Joshua (enough said)! She studies me in every way. She writes and shares a prophetic word with me every Monday. She is the main one that makes me late for everything. OMG! LOL! MONICA CABLE: Most people don’t get to see the hilarious Mr. Cable; He is very entertaining. He is laid back, enjoys classic movies and playing his viola from time to time. Most people don’t know that Joshua enjoys roller skating and can actually skate. He is relaxed when he can simply take a walk in nature or around the parking lot to pray and think. The beach environment is also an ideal setting for him. WHAT IS A SCRIPTURE THAT YOU BOTH USE AS YOU FUNCTION IN A PARTNERSHIP? “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” - Gen. 12:2,3

P owerlifting It’s amazing to me to watch men and women train their bodies and mental aptitudes for weightlifting and powerlifting. While I don’t understand the reason for it apart from competition and pleasure, I applaud their determination. As much admiration as these powerlifters get for their strengths, there is much wonderment for the stories like the less endowed mother who lifted a car to free her child pinned underneath. How is it that someone who is recognized for their strength and proof of diligence in their training can have their abilities matched by someone who pales in comparison? The mother was resilient because she had a compelling reason. There are times when our faith is tested, and we have to do some powerlifting ourselves. When I was younger, I witnessed a friend of mine go through a difficult period with her family. I asked my mom how is it that some people have to go through so much, and others don’t. At the time, I didn’t understand because I had never experienced adversity on a level that I perceived to be so great. My mom simply told me that everyone has to bear weight at some point in their lives.

LOVE MARRIAGE & PARTNERSHIP | THE REVIEW

Faith It’s important to remember that the amount of the weight is irrelevant. The way you choose to respond to it is what matters. I took what my mom said to heart, but a short while after that, I had to apply the faith that she was talking about. Unexpectedly, the same friend that I had asked my mom about had passed. Have you ever admired someone because they were so strong (emotionally, physically, or mentally), so smart, so talented, or so successful? I have. I had to learn that we actually admire these “powerlifters” not for what they accomplish, but their discipline to fulfill it. When someone operates in their gifting, they discipline themselves to make what is perceived as amazing seem so natural. Like the mother with the child pinned underneath the car, your circumstance(s) may require you to activate a faith that you didn’t know you had. Understand that you must discipline yourself to regularly exercise your faith, but also know that there is a greater POWER in you that allows you to LIFT things beyond your own strength. The beautiful thing about this power is that it doesn’t just give you the ability to lift, move, or carry. THIS power gives you the ability to overcome.

JOHNSON

I am TAWANA JOHNSON, a servant leader and the reigning MS. MAGNOLIA STATE PLUS AMERICA FOR 2019. As an advocate of social change, I hope to provide relief, support and hope to those I encounter; specifically, single parents through my platform.

Ms.

MAGNOLIA STATE

Plus America

Being raised by a single mother gave me a bird’s eye view of strength in its rawest form. I have been guided, prayed for and supported by a cadre of women who exude character, strength, integrity and faith with an emphasis on community. I adopted those core values, successfully applied them to my life and have attempted to pass them on to young women who are also single mothers. The seed that was planted in me bloomed into Divine Jewelz Inc. which is a nonprofit organization I founded in 2009. The mission of Divine Jewelz Inc. is to empower and aid single parents through life’s most difficult times. This includes financial emergency assistance, childcare assistance, job interview readiness and other essential resources. Just recently, I have added another facet to my organization. Following the death of my first cousin who was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in June 2018, I saw another need within my family and community. Divine Jewelz Inc. is now a support system for single parents with a cancer diagnosis during their treatment and beyond. Aiding with day-to-day needs such as transportation to and from appointments, homework assistance for minor children, drop off and pick up for extracurricular activities and household chores. This is to ensure that the focus is on getting better while providing much-needed support to the patient’s family. As written in Luke 12:48, “To whom much is given, much will be required”. I am blessed so my focus is on being a blessing to others. www.facebook.com/MsMagnoliaState2019/

Dismiss every misconception that you have about Dating, be open-minded, and expect to have fun! Who says that Dating has to be anything other than what you want it to be? IDEAS BY: MR & MRS KING

MEET AT A COFFEE SHOP: “Most coffee shops are set up to facilitate intimate conversation, which is just what you want on a date,” says Esther Boykin, licensed marriage and family therapist and author of The Date Deck. “And most importantly you can stay for 30 minutes or 3 hours and exiting the date at either point doesn’t seem awkward or forced.” HAVE DINNER: Probably the most common first date idea, the dinner date can take up more of your time but definitely sets the mood for eye contact and talking. “Going out for a nice dinner [gives you the] opportunity to share the dining experience while getting to know each other”. TAKE AN EXERCISE CLASS TOGETHER: Couple’s yoga is a good bet! Or, if one of you is a gym member, get a guest pass and bring your date along with you. HAVE A LUNCH HOUR DATE: Whether you have conflicting schedules or just need to switch things up a bit, it will be fun to rendezvous in the middle of the day for a change.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN LOVE &

PURPOSE REUNITE?

THE ESSENCE OF MARRIAGE IS REVEALED L

O

V

E

We present love with a serious approach that challenges society’s modern perception that love is a feeling. Their insightful view of the true meaning and ultimate function of love compels you to reflect on your personal view and understanding of what love is, and how it is to be applied. We are all in need of love, and cannot function without it; however, it is our lack of knowledge, diverse conceptions, and varied levels of maturity that prevent us from giving and receiving love in a way that is both operative and sustaining.

MARRIAGE

We tactically illustrate the parallels of getting married and being married as they explain the image of marriage versus the essence of marriage. Knowing that love alone does not constitute a good marriage, they define the roles of the husband and wife, what needs must be met, and the purpose for the institution of the union. James and Natasha share features that have personally helped them in the growth of their marriage.

P A R T N E R S H I P

We broaden the novel perception of marriage as they build the idea of a marriage being a partnership. In a marriage, you become ONE. With this belief, James and Natasha ask what is the one thing that you represent as a couple? What singular vision do you have as a couple? What purpose are you serving as a couple? What gift are you sharing as a couple? Through personal observation and intentionally studying successful couples in partnership for over a decade, they explain the necessity of a mastermind alliance in your partnership, how to add value to what you do in your marriage, and what the fulfillment of your work in partnership is provision for.

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

ANDREA THOMAS , the creator of The Plug Jxn, found her love for Jackson’s social scene, while working at a local publication. As she explored every corner of the city, she realized a disconnect between socialites and event coordinators. People often say “Jackson is boring” or “There’s nothing to do in Jackson”. Andrea wanted to change this narrative, by creating a one stop shop for events. On her personal Facebook page, she would post events she would be attending weekly. It quickly grew into people anticipating her event posts. Three years later, The Plug Jxn was born. The Plug strives to bring all sides of Jackson together, from The District to Southside, from the church to the strip club. We are here, to help foster all things local and to change the social scene & narrative of Jackson. You can follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat at ThePlugJxn.

CLEANSE HER. LISTEN TO HER.

Listening to your wife allows you to really understand her, and see her inner-most thoughts. You also see her needs. Being able to listen is one of the greatest gifts that you can give to your wife. When you listen, understand that she is not asking for your advice, she is simply looking for you to be open to her feelings and thoughts. Listening allows you to see what she is saying, how she is saying it, and most importantly, why she is saying it. By listening, you can discern whether your wife is seeking your advice or just in need of you helping her to find her own answer.

PAY ATTENTION TO HER.

The more you listen to your wife, the better you will get at paying attention to her. Paying attention allows you to learn major and minor details about your wife, such as knowing her favorite things, her love language, when to do things for her, and how to read her moods. When you pay attention to your wife, you can tell when she wants to do something or have something, but denies it to accommodate you or a situation. Perhaps the greatest thing is being able to recognize who God is in your wife, the strengths and gifts that He’s placed in her. Paying attention allows you to love her the way she deserves to be loved.

APPRECIATE HER.

As a husband it should be a privilege to appreciate your wife every chance you get. Appreciation shows her that all she does has value. Our wives do so much daily to make sure all our needs are met as well as running a household. Appreciate your wife by saying thank you every chance you get. Learn how to edify her at all times letting the world know that she is your gift from the Lord. Appreciate her time, her loving, her respect, her patients, her thoughts and her value to your life. This is an action that will always keep a smile on her face.

Cleansing your wife takes loving her mind, body and soul to a new level. As a husband we are taught to cleanse our wife by washing her with the word of God. As we listen and pay attention to her, please be aware that from day to day so much negativity, disappointments and past hurts fill her mind. Sometimes it’s visible and sometimes suppressed. To cleanse her we must pray with and for her daily, speak positive things into her life daily, speak the word of God with her daily and patently help her to focus on the positive only each and every day. As you cater to her as the weaker vessel the stronger she will be.

BE A GENTLEMAN (CHIVALRY) WITH HER.

Being a gentleman shows your wife that you’re a chivalrous, courteous and an honorable man. Doing this consistently will give your wife the assurance that you love and honor her worth. Your wife deserves to have her doors opened, her chair pulled out, having her hand held in public and private, foot rubs and fixing her plate, just to name a few. Being a gentleman is one of the greatest ways to honor your wife, not only for what she does but ultimately for who she is to you. As husbands let’s show our wives and the world that chivalry is alive and well.

SET GOALS THAT STRETCH HER.

Being the visionary of the home it is our job to set the bar high with everything that we do, including setting goals. The goals should include you and your wife at all times. Because we as husbands desire to see all God has instore for our wives, it is good to set all goals bigger than life. High goals are put into place so that we have to be stretched and grow to reach them. As husbands stretching our wives shows her that we believe in her. Believing in our wives is one of the highest forms of love and appreciation.

PLACE HER AS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD.

Yes, place her before parents, children, the household responsibilities, work-related duties, and all the other things that attempt to press their way in front

of your wife. Establishing and maintaining this priority is one way of fostering peace, better communication, and productivity within your home and relationship.

LOVE GOD AND BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. This must be priority over all other things. It is not possible to know God and not love Him, and it is impossible to love someone else and not love God. Establishing a loving relationship with God will properly equip you with the strength and wisdom to truly love your husband with an unconditional lovean Agape love. Furthermore, the love that you have for God allows you to accept His commands, and grow in understanding of His word. As your relationship with God grows, so will it with your husband as God shows you how to submit to your husband as unto Christ. LOVE YOURSELF AND HAVE AN INCREASING DESIRE TO BETTER YOURSELF. The better woman that you become, his inspiration to be better is also increased. He sees you as a suitable helper, a true partner – one who completes him as opposed to competes with him. By focusing on positive change within yourself, your husband will view you as someone to be honored, instead of feeling like you’re trying to change him. Also, it may be necessary to tell him that you are working to make yourself better, so that you can be a better help to him. BELIEVE IN AND BUILD UP THE MAN THAT HE IS TO BE. It is vital that you always keep a positive image of who your husband is to be. This takes work on your part, but it’s worth it in the end. There will be moments where it’s easy to see your husband’s weaknesses or areas you feel he needs to grow in, but trust in God to mold and change him. Continue to build him up, encourage him, speak to and treat him like the man that he is to become. Also, be careful not to compare him to anyone else. Ultimately, you want him to be his best self, who God designed him to be – which is more than what you may desire him to be within a moment.

LET YOUR THOUGHTS, WORDS, AND ACTIONS ALWAYS BE POSITIVE OF HIM. This requires self-discipline on many levels. It has often been said that when we do things, we do them three times: in our mind, in our words, and in our actions. Often, there is much emphasis on guarding what we say or do, because those are external things that others can see. However, our thoughts are internal which only God can see. Don’t allow negative thoughts to build up against what you know is true about your husband – that he is your good and perfect gift from the Lord, and that he is fearfully and wonderfully made. Through prayer, fasting, meditation, and God’s word, tear down the strongholds that have built themselves up in regard to your husband so that your words and actions may always be positive both publicly and privately. HONOR HIM AS THE PRIEST, PROVIDER, AND PROTECTOR OF YOUR HOME. To do so requires trust and faith in God at an optimum level. Perhaps this is the area where submission is exercised the most, because it requires a great deal of sacrifice. As the priest of the home, your husband must be respected as the mediator between God and the family. Respect your husband as the one who provides the vision and goals for your family – not just a provider of resources. Understand that God will provide your husband with the vision. Your work is found in his vision. This is not to disregard your goals and dreams. When you sacrifice your personal ambitions, you’ll understand that God has made provisions for your gifts to be used and desires fulfilled in the work that He has given your husband. As the protector of your home, your husband’s fortification addresses anything that may infringe upon the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of your family. If you feel or see that these components are not present in your husband, pray that God develops these things in him. PRAY FOR HIM. Be attentive to your husband’s needs, desires, strengths, and weaknesses in a way that you can prayerfully ask God to address. When you do so, you allow God to use all of His resources to touch the areas of your husband that you’re praying for. Have peace in knowing that you have no power to change anything about your husband, but God gives you the power and authority to pray for him and help him through God’s strength. PLACE HIM AS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD. Yes, place him before the children, the household chores, work-related duties, and all the other things that attempt to press their way in front of your husband. Establishing and maintaining this priority is one way of fostering peace, better communication, and productivity within your home and relationship.

FLINCHING

From foster care to living in too many shelters to count, depression and suicidal attempts, Carlotta Taylor, author and speaker, knows that it was nothing but the grace of God that kept her from jail, the streets or worse. Transferred from 26 various foster care homes because of abuse and neglect, she learned early on that if she didn’t transform her mind, she would be consumed by the chaotic world around her. Realizing that nothing just happens—and that God uses even our suffering to be a blessing— Carlotta seeks to inspire others to press beyond their breaking point, even if she only touches one person.

Severely beaten by her father, and suffering mental, spiritual and physical abuse in the many foster homes she once resided in, Carlotta encourages people worldwide to know that their difficulties in life do not have to define their future. As a former homicide detective, child protection detective, and former federal officer, with over 15 years law enforcement experience, she knew she had to use her knowledge and wisdom to effect greater change in and around the community. As the founder of Somebody Step In, Inc., a non-profit for foster children, teens and young adults, she offers coaching and mentorship in education, life skills and more. Her extensive professional and personal background has opened doors for her to serve as a motivational speaker at schools, catholic charities and shelters. After having received three accommodation awards in law enforcement, even in her retirement, it is crystal clear that this is not just a career for her. It’s Ministry.

After searching for her purpose for years, she soon learned that her purpose was to share her story and inspire others who may be going through what she endured and overcame triumphantly. And even though she’s great at everything from makeup, hair and art—and even truck driving—she gets no greater fulfillment than that of walking someone through their healing process. Suddenly, life as she knew it all made sense. In her debut book, No More Flinching, Carlotta outlines five key steps to overcoming adversity. Flinching was the reaction she had right before her father oftentimes punched her in the face. But even after he and her mother divorced, the damage already done, she still flinched if someone reached for something near her. Until one day, it all stopped. She didn’t flinch anymore. More importantly, she learned how to truly forgive her father. Holding both a Bachelor of Arts in Social Services and a Master’s in Science and Leadership from Belhaven University, Carlotta is using her educational, spiritual and emotional skill sets to host workshops under Somebody Step In, Inc., which will include goal setting, journaling, gear and gift cards to attendees. With her strong spirit of discernment, clear vision about the future, wit and love for others, she’s committed to kicking procrastination to the curb and shining her light brightly for all to see. And she encourages others to do the same.

DR. ANGELA IYANOBOR University of Maryland Baltimore School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner I am currently a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has recently completed a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree to specialize as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Having over twelve years in the nursing profession, I have witnessed firsthand the shortage of primary care and mental health providers needed to service the underserved population in our communities. As a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, I have also been a witness to the many myths and culture that prevents service members from seeking the care they so greatly need. Earning my degree will prepare me educationally with the fortitude to fulfill my career goals of helping the underserved in the community and the military population with their primary care and mental health diagnoses. My goal is to provide access to quality care through treatment, resources, and a safe, collaborative environment. My degree also prepares me for leadership by pushing me to think beyond my day-to-day practice, incorporate evidence-based practice extracted from quality research, and find innovative ways to change health systems. I plan to partner with community organizations to facilitate health fairs and other events that will bring care and resources to the doorsteps of those that need it the most. After graduation, I plan to apply for employment with a community-based Federally Qualified Health Center who is dedicated to providing services to the medically underserved while also adding psychiatric nurse practitioner to my certifications with the U.S. Army Reserve. Through these various venues, I will be able to improve the quality of health care for local patients and soldiers one visit at a time.

God show me your strength that’s in me. With good intention, I have wrongfully gone into battle on my own, using old weaponry of grace and mercy. I’ve become frustrated, but not tired. I see this army that has come upon me, and though I’m able to slay some, many more come, more aggressive than before. As I fight, I can feel the warmth of that most precious stone that You gave to me- securely tucked away, wrapped in a beautiful purple cloth of fine velvet and silk, and resting inside a sturdy leather pouch that rests tightly against my heart. I can feel the dampness of the pouch sticking to me as I sweat through battle. For this one jewel, this most precious stone is my enemies’ trophy of defeat. As strategic warfare is waged against me, I know they have the taste of my demise on their salivating tongues, awaiting the moment when they can snatch away my stone to carry back, bragging about another one gained. Lord I’ve heard of the monument they’ve created with all of the stones of joy that they’ve viciously taken from your warriors- warriors that wrongfully entered battle without proper armor. As I slay another savage beast, I immediately feel a piercing as another entangles me into his snare. I cry out to You, and I feel Your presence! Glorious You are, in such majesty! Your light kills every evil thing, and delivers me! Your presence strengthens me, and I’m able to stand. While in your embrace, I feel for the pouch resting over my heart, and there, still intact, is my most precious stone of joy.

Recently, we’ve taken a huge step of faith towards what we know is our purpose in life, and there have been some expected challenges. Our greatest challenge has been the battle that is fought in our minds daily as we walk this journey of purpose. Despite the circumstance, God’s word tells us to have joy. In fact, there are many scriptures about JOY, the purpose of it, and how it functions. God tells us to guard our hearts (our mind), and we do that by having JOY. The only way that we will be able to fight the fight of faith is to have the joy of the Lord which is our strength. We choose daily to have joy. God gives it to us when we simply rejoice and praise Him.

When we begin to fight battles of negative thoughts, thoughts that go against what God has told us, we may become frustrated and even weary. We become frustrated and weary because we are functioning off of old joys. The same applies to feeling as if we are fighting alone. While we’re in the fight, we began to praise God in order to restore our strength. The enemy wants nothing more than to steal our joy, because without it, we cannot fight the fight of faith. So, rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, REJOICE!

Have you found yourself battling in your thoughts? Perhaps you’re fighting to have joy in your life despite your circumstances. Have you found it difficult at times to praise God because of the pain or uncertainty that you’re experiencing? Review the following scriptures and their surrounding texts to help bring you back to that place of joy.

Psalm 94: 19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. (NIV) Psalm 149: 4 For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. (NKJV) Zephaniah 3: 17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (NIV) John 16: 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 12: 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (NIV)
