THE CITY BEE The City Bee developed from the concept of a new chain of boutique hotels in Utah. Taking inspiration from a renowned designer and the bee theme, the hotel portrays high design and whimsy. The design comes from the feeling of being in a high-end, sophisticated city boutique hotel with the whimsical flight pattern of a bumblebee.

VICTORIAN DRAFTING Hand drafting is a valuable begining to producing successful plans. The technique and detail of drafting are exemplified in the full set of plans and drawings of the Pike’s home. Inside and out, the exterior elevation and the space planning include the key elements of classic Victorian design.

BLANC DE NOIR Blanc de Noir is a French restaurant in America that embraces the “terroir” (location and use of local natural resources) of Burgundy, France. Intimate balcony dining inside and outside are unique to this space. The use of tessellations in design produced the wine bottle motif that is incorporated into the restaurant’s interior. The rich colors of wine and the reused wine barrel hoops maintain the Blanc de Noir wine theme throughout.

airborne Fashion design expressed in interior design. Taking two dresses from Hussein Chalayan’s Airborne line of fashion, this flagship retail store demonstrates curves from one design and light from another, transforming the space into a textural and visual backdrop for the designer’s creations.
geometry and lace Taking the concept of a Victorian garden with the harshly geometric pruning and delicate flowers translated into a contemporary Victorian home. Geometry and Lace is an 1870-1900 Victorian home remodel. This home expresses the hip, trendy style of the couple while incorporating some family heirlooms into the design.

ageless rules COLORS
As surfaces change, so should color/contrast to aid in difficulty with depth perception. A person with decreased vision will have trouble seeing the shapes in a room with a muted color scheme.
The yellowing of the eye changes the perception of colors. White objects may appear yellow and it is more difficult to distinguish between blues and greens.
MATERIALS
As surfaces change, so also should materials/ textures. Arthritis, back pain, injuries, certain health conditions, and medications cal all affect a person’s ability to move easily.
FIXTURES
Fixtures must be easily manipulated by those with weakened hand-eye coordination and joint stiffness. Relieve hands and fingers of tasks that can be accomplished by other means. Faucets, door handles, cabinet handles,
LIGHTING
Aging eyes are less able to absorb light, making it more difficult to see in dim lighting. Better lighting should be installed throughout the hom, with additional task lighting in needed areas. People in their sixties need three times more light for comfortable reading than those in their twenties.
FURNISHINGS
Mobility and memory are both considerations when furnishing a home.
Aging is associated with slower recall of trivial information, like where the keys are. Put things in the same place every time for easier recollection.
