Somewhere between 2008 and today, Lauren earned a reputation as the Pittsburgh Property Diva. It’s a sobriquet that she’s happily embraced, even christening her website PittsburghPropertyDiva.com. But Lauren operates from the premise that real estate isn’t about her: it’s about her clients. Her forte is building relationships across the real estate journey through open communication, tireless dedication and a constantly updated expertise on the Pittsburgh market she’s called home her whole life. Earning an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters in Forensic Science and Law, Lauren brings talent on both fronts — understanding the emotional aspects of her client’s journey, and an ability to negotiate the finest details of a transaction. Recognized as one of the top 100 most influential real estate agents in her field in 2016 and 2017 by Real Estate Executive Magazine, Lauren is poised to change the way the world looks at real estate. Foreword Pittsburgh is — let’s face it — cool as hell. Everyone wants to live and do business here. We’ve been mentioned in countless major publications this year alone and are now viewed nationally as a “hot spot”. The ICONS Book sets out to showcase those who make this title possible. We aim to bring people together, and to be the best networking tool for serious entrepreneurs. Since our inauguration in 2015, we have been able to successfully launch three Pittsburgh editions and have expanded to Youngstown, Ohio and the neighborhood of NoMad in New York City — with Cleveland following close behind. We are excited to continue to spread this concept across the country and are proud to say that we have helped over 200 entrepreneurs to grow and flourish in their designated fields. Through the production of ICONS, we have been able to offer these business owners so much more than was originally intended. We love the fact that we have — in a way — become their PR agency, image maker, and networking tool all rolled into one. In this day and age, startups and small businesses are the new cool. “Boss Babe” is a coveted way of life and working for yourself is no longer just for the super elite. Having never formally worked for any other company, I set out to launch my own nearly 15 years ago, before the idea of being an entrepreneur became a trend. The methods that have helped me to set myself apart then are the tools I now use to help our ICONS do the same. Becoming an ICON is a major life choice. And we are so grateful to those who have trusted us and placed their brands into our hands. I sincerely believe that if you love what you do, it will always pay off. I have always been a storyteller and my greatest love is sharing the tales of these incredible entrepreneurs. Whether they are an established brand or a startup, we can always find ways to relate. I’ve either walked in their shoes or aspire to.

From flight attendant to stay-at-home mom to medical spa entrepreneur. It’s been a circuitous route for Toni, but she’s landed where her heart has always been. Long a fan of luxurious beauty treatments, she stepped out of her stay-at-home role to reinvent herself as a medical esthetician. While working for doctors and plastic surgeons, she discovered the joy of making people feel fabulous about themselves, inside and out. And that’s the mission behind Sewickley’s Village Skin by Toni. Toni has even taken the Village Skin mission on the road, traveling to salons in her mobile medical spa to perform laser treatments. With the belief that beauty and wellness come from within, Village Skin provides medical grade skin care, working with each client to develop a plan that’s easy to follow and instrumental in ensuring lasting beauty and confidence through every stage of life. 234 Broad St., Sewickley, PA 15143 | 412.992.8290 | villageskin.com 11

What began in 1988 as a residential home building venture, has evolved in ways Kent could never have imagined. Kent’s passion for creating remarkable spaces has brought the family-owned company a distinguished portfolio of custom-built, high-end homes. Over the years, the company has moved into the realms of commercial build-outs, interior and exterior rejuvenations, and urban living — most notably, the award-winning, New York-style condo in the 2500 Smallman building, located in Pittsburgh’s burgeoning Strip District. Koch Construction’s talented staff of expert trim carpenters has created many opportunities with other builders and contractors, who are seeking the highest quality craftsmanship on their projects. Even as the company continues to grow, Kent maintains the commitment to what drove Koch Construction’s initial success: a dedication to providing each client with personal attention through every step of the project. 412.292.8389 | kochconstructionco.com

For 25 years in the health supplement business, Tom kept hearing the same question: “Is this stuff safe? After all, labels were a litany of chemicals, and FDA scrutiny constantly raised concerns. Tom saw a need for clean, natural, high-performance sports nutrition, and met a kindred spirit in actor/producer/workoutaficionado Mark Wahlberg. Mark pushed Tom to leave GNC and focus on launching a tested line of all-natural protein powders, food, and protein-infused products for everyone from student athletes to hardcore body builders. They were soon joined by Draymond Green, Scooter Braun, Marcus Luttrell, America Media Inc. and IMG/WME, and launched Performance Inspired in the mass market to meet consumers with the better products they want in the places they prefer to shop. 844.333.0969 | pi-nutrition.com

Stephanie Kirby THE BLUE DAISY FLORAL DESIGNS Some people have careers and others have callings. Stephanie definitely falls into the camp of the latter. As a child, she often adorned the family home with arrangements of flowers from her mom’s garden. She majored in horticulture (naturally) at Penn State, and set to work at an outdoor living store after graduation. There, an engaged couple asked her to design their wedding arrangements and set Stephanie on the path to The Blue Daisy. From that first experience came Stephanie’s mantra: “It’s your day.” And that begins with a personal consultation to share photos, Pinterest boards, color palettes, dreams, visions and any inspiration to help make that day perfect. Today, The Blue Daisy Floral Designs is regularly featured on some of the top wedding blogs — not to mention at some of the top wedding events in the region. 1022 Perry Hwy., Pittsburgh, PA 15237 412.367.5810 | thebluedaisyfloral.com

Dr. Vonda Wright WOMEN’S HEALTH CONVERSATIONS 24
Medical Director of UPMC Lemieux Sports Center UPMC Director of the Performance & Research Initiative for Masters Athletes “You can be anything you want to be.” That’s the message that was driven home by her mother, and Dr. Wright took it to heart. She joined the coterie of women who make up just 3% of orthopedic surgeons, and even more unusually, ascended to a position of leadership. It’s this second hurdle for women that Dr. Wright hopes to help her surgeons overcome. In addition to her roles at UPMC, and as an author and sought-after speaker, she’s taken the lead in ensuring that the brilliant, talented,

compassionate surgeons she mentors find themselves on equal footing with their male counterparts — not only in terms of salary but just as importantly, in their opportunity to advance. She meets with her surgeons regularly to help them learn how to network, how to be strong negotiators, and how to be confident in asking for what they want. In other words, the skills that have served Dr. Wright exceptionally well in her own career. It was the convergence of two realities that inspired Dr. Wright to launch her visionary Women’s Health Conversations project. First, that the key to health is mobility, which just so happens to be her field of expertise. Second, that women make over 80% of health care decisions for their families, and have a profound impact on the health of their friends and coworkers. In 2013, she launched this first-of-its-kind conference to educate and empower women to live healthier lives. In so doing, these women would in turn help Pittsburgh reach an audacious goal: to become the healthiest city in the country. It’s a goal she firmly believes is within reach, and has heavily invested her own time and resources to begin that process. Through events, blogs, social media, videos and podcasts, Dr. Wright is helping to reshape the health and future of our community, one woman at a time. drvondawright.com | womenshealthconversations.com 25
Michelle Senko PPM REALTY Family Tradition instilled three indispensable traits in Michelle: an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for historic architecture, and a strong sense of determination. In Fort Lauderdale, she specialized in commercial, developmental and mixed-use real estate on one of the topproducing commercial sales teams in Florida. She returned to Pittsburgh in 2016, where her extensive and versatile market experience proves an invaluable asset in her business practice. Michelle combines her passion, innovative creativity and genuine enthusiasm to make projects successful and unforgettable experiences for her clientele. Chris can trace his family roots in Pittsburgh to the early 1900s, and planted his own here in 1993. Needless to say, he fell in love with the place. Building a career in finance, he traveled across the region and discovered its unique quirks and charms, neighborhoods, traditions and hidden gems. In 2016, his career made a Pittsburgh left with the launch of Rapid Pulse Marketing which specializes in social media, video production, live stream events, and all things new-media. “I love your outfit! Where did you get it?” That’s a question Courtney had heard more often than most people hear “Hello.” So with her love of affordable, designer fashion and a desire to share the origins of her stylish ensembles, launching her own blog was a natural. Both Joe (a designer of environments at a face-to-face marketing firm) and Keith (founder and owner of Parish Digital) noticed a glaring need in video production. With a nearly constant demand for new online content, no one offered the curators of web-based videos a venue to affordably and professionally produce their work. Combining Keith’s video expertise for clients like PPG and Kraft Heinz, and Joe’s acumen in designing comfortable, functional spaces, and marketing eye they launched StudioME — the first easy-to-use, self-guided video facility for new-media content creators, complete with the equipment and staff available to help. With a free membership, clients can rent the exact space and tools they need for YouTube, video blogs, social platforms, green screen productions, Kickstarter videos and more. Having two children in two years changes everything — mostly for the better. But one downside for Melanie was how she felt about her body. With her time and budget consumed by boys Landon and Bryce, the gym was out of the question. So in 2011, she began the Beachbody Summer Slim Down Challenge, jumped into Beachbody Home Fitness programs, and adopted a clean eating lifestyle. Melanie had discovered a passion for fitness and the inspiration to help others reach their health and fitness goals. She became a Beachbody coach, runs multiple accountability and support groups, and has been recognized as the Top Coach in the Team Beachbody network three years straight. She’s also launched “Women Inspiring Women,” a podcast that provides insight and encouragement to other women starting and growing a successful at-home business. melaniemitro.com

One of the things Mary has always enjoyed is finding unique items for her friends and family. But when it came time to do the same for her baby boy, she kept coming up empty — at least when it came to cool, quality clothes. That was the inspiration to open Oakmont’s Precious + Posh in 2016. Mary’s one-of-a-kind baby and children’s clothing boutique features 35 modern lines, including an extensive collection of Communion, Christening and formal wear. But more than just catering to tastes, Precious + Posh caters to the needs of the shopping mom with wide aisles to accommodate strollers and a play space to accommodate kids who’ve yet to develop a passion for shopping. After just one year, Mary has expanded her store’s offerings to include equally fashionable accessories and gear, and a gift registry for every special occasion. And all with the expertise to meet each mom’s unique needs. 638 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA 15139 | 412.794.8247 | preciousandposh.com

As his reputation grew, so did the company. It all started with a craving for a smoothie. A few years ago, Elizabeth was a practicing attorney looking for a quick, healthy food option to fit her busy schedule. Realizing that there was a void in the Pittsburgh market for real, made-to-order smoothies, she immediately thought of Smoothie King, the leader in the industry since 1973, and decided to introduce “smoothies with a purpose to the area. Elizabeth signed on for three franchised Smoothie King locations, then stepped away from her legal career to focus full-time on her stores. Today, she has two Smoothie King locations open for business (Wexford and Bridgeville), with a third in the works and plans for more to come. This year, she was elected to represent East region Smoothie King franchisees on the Franchise Advisory Council, providing insight and guidance to corporate decision makers on policies and strategies affecting franchisees. Elizabeth looks forward to continuing to bring Pittsburghers a healthy fast food option unlike anything else in the market. 11199 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA 15090 | 724.933.6111 1025 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017 | 412.221.4148 smoothieking.com

Erin Liposky CUSTOM DESIGNED ART
Creating customized paintings wasn’t Erin’s original plan. But it quickly became her specialty. She realized that while her customers loved her designs, they often asked for a different size or color scheme to better compliment their home or business. Erin saw an opportunity to combine her love of painting, passion for color, and interest in home decor as a way to provide clients with custom artwork in the sizes and colors that perfectly fit. After a personal consultation with each client, Erin brings their preferences and ideas to life through her beautiful designs, and is frequently complimented herself for filling each space with a positive, calming vibe. Today, every piece Erin creates is customized — and her reputation has spread far beyond Pittsburgh. Her paintings can be found in countless homes, offices and commercial businesses across the country. 412.316.7026 | @erinartdesign | erinartdesign.com 57
Gwen Lewis CO-PRESIDENT
RON LEWIS AUTOMOTIVE GROUP
Though she’d been around the auto business virtually her whole life, it took Gwen several years to become part of it. Her Dad, Ron, purchased his first dealership in 1975. In 2000, after leading public relations for a variety of technology clients internationally, she came aboard to lead the family business into the digital era. Gwen launched Ron Lewis’ Online Operations, making it possible to buy a car with a few clicks of a mouse. She also introduced the online Souped Up Garage, where buyers can outfit their Jeep or pick-up with a wide array of after-market accessories. Gwen has been instrumental in bringing Alfa Romeo to the Pittsburgh market, which brings the Ron Lewis Automotive Group to seven dealerships and nine franchises. When not leading the company’s branding efforts, Gwen spends as much time as possible in a non-motorized vehicle — as an avid competitive rower with the Three Rivers Rowing Association. 20839 US 19, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066 | 724-776-7400 ronlewisautomotive.com

Jerry Cook ATTORNEY AT LAW Even though he graduated cum laude from Pitt law school and had already launched a successful career in litigation, franchise law was something Jerry had to learn on the fly. He was part of GNC’s legal team when the global brand decided to begin franchising, and Jerry stepped up to take on the job of navigating the legal aspects of the endeavor. Soon GNC was the #1 ranked franchise opportunity in the country and franchising internationally from Canada to Indonesia — and Jerry had found his calling. He later joined Fox Rothschild (twice named Franchise Law Firm of the Year) before opting for the freedom and flexibility of independence. Today, Jerry provides the full range of legal services to both established and first-time franchisors — from clients with 3,000 locations around the world to those with as few as 10 around the region. And all with the confidence of having Jerry’s 35 years of success behind them. 412.851.9020 | Cooklegal.com | Pittsburghfranchiselawyer.com 62

April has been a catalyst in helping Pittsburgh get its due recognition as a creatively dynamic city. As a college graduate, she saw a glaring need in Pittsburgh for a fashion-forward lifestyle magazine. And rather than lamenting that void, she moved decisively to fill it, launching Maniac Magazine in 2003 to celebrate the city’s young professional community through compelling stories and stunning photography. In the years since, she’s turned a spotlight on to virtually every high-profile personality and emerging mover and shaker in the city, helping to elevate nationally the city’s reputation as a business, cultural, dining, art and fashion innovator.

It’s safe to say that everyone knows Richard Bazzy. Even if you’ve never been to one of his dealerships, you’re bound to be familiar with his upbeat, fun, infectious television and radio commercials. And this is where his true passion lies. Richard encourages Pittsburgh, as part of the Bubba show, to reach out and lift up their fellow members of the community. He has been able to help so many people - whether they’re kids starting school or families at the holidays - not as promotions for his own brand, but as a symbol of what this city is and does. Using the media to bring people together and watching the city respond with warm hearts and a genuine passion for charity is what truly sets him apart as an ICON. Richard believes in the future of Pittsburgh saying, “We can accomplish great things, and my part is just a cog in that wheel. And sometimes, simply making us all aware is how we achieve greatness.” 80
