ShaVunda Brown
An internationally award-winning spoken word artist, an actress, organizer, and rap lyricist. Brown writes to empower and shed light on raw truths, with a sharp social consciousness. Using her knowledge of African diasporic spirituality, history, mythos and the southern folklore of her upbringing, she weaves stories and new visions of liberation. Brown’s voice has been heard on national campaigns for Sephora on racial bias, the adultification of black girls for Georgetown Law Center on Poverty and Inequality and a local campaign for Reproductive Justice for UnRestrict Minnesota. She has been seen in Art is Black Light a Mn. Original Series featured on PBS-TPT. She has originated a few roles in The World Premiere of stage plays produced by The History Theater (Mn), Children’s Theater (Mn) and The Arena Stage Theater (D.C.)t
The Dance People

Ellen Sweetman
A full-time creative, healer, visual artist, explorer, mentor, teacher and owner of livelybrush, LLC. Sweetman is currently integrating multiracial identity, trauma (individual and collective), and a variety of new modalities into her journey of learning and teaching art medicine. Her first language is line, texture, color, emotion, and movement. Art is medicine and sustenance which creates pathways to a liberated life. It is that path that calls her deep into the forest beyond what needs to be taught or learned from others. Tapping into her own wisdom and seeing how her natural gifts heartfully provide a trail to what she seeks and already knows as her truth opens a gateway into curiosity and trust. Sweetman enjoys the artful dance of creation and some of her work can be captured in a variety of media, movement, drumming, and writing. She loves drumming and dancing with her 4 children, connecting with nature and diving into soul-filled communities.
Djenane Saint Juste
A native of Haiti, and is the Artistic Director of Afoutayi Haitian Dance, Music and Arts Company. Djenane has been a dance teacher working with k-12 students and adults for over 25 years, in French, Creole, Spanish and English. She is a professional choreographer, dancer, actress, vocalist, and writer specializing in Haitian traditional dance and folklore. Djenane has also been trained in Ballet, Hip Hop, Modern, Jazz, Ballroom, and Zumba at the Institut de Danse JAKA, Institut de Dance Vivianne Gauthier, Artcho Dance Company in Haiti, and in other prestigious dance companies in the U.S. She is the creator and instigator of the Annual Haitian Cultural Festival, and has brought exciting new themes and activities to engage participants in Haitian culture since the first Haitian Festival in 2009.
