Raven Celebrates Inventing

the

Wheel

40” x 25” x 12” bronze

Edition of 25

Raven, being the cleverest of all creatures, was pretty proud of herself when she invented the Wheel. She wondered, which creature can I give it to that will use it best? Raven goes to Squirrel and says, “Squirrel, I’ve invented the Wheel and I’d like for you to have it.” Squirrel shakes his head and says, “I can climb trees, why would I need a Wheel?” Raven goes to Raccoon and says, “Raccoon, I’ve invented the Wheel and I’d like for you to have it.” Raccoon said “Oh Raven you are so foolish, I’m the smartest animal in the forest, why would I need a Wheel?” Raven goes to Deer and says, “Deer, I’ve invented the Wheel and I’d like you to have it.” Deer laughs and said, “I am the fastest animal in the forest, why would I need a Wheel?” Raven knew that the only creature left was Man. And since she knew that man was the neediest and greediest of all creatures, he would use the Wheel. Man did take the wheel and invented the car. Thus killing Squirrels, Raccoons, and Deer. And Raven never went hungry again.

David Riley "There’s a part of painting for me that’s about getting a likeness, and then there’s this other part, I’ll paint my subjects until they look back at me. It’s almost more about trying to represent the spirit of an animal or person, as if you just bumped into them in the astral plane." ~ David Riley
