MAGICAL
SRI LANKA Sri Lanka is a magical place and for many Poles it has been known as the land of tea, exotic spices, precious stones, lush nature and wildlife. It was believed to be a place that promised great adventures and unforgettable experiences. That is why many people want to

discover this country on their own.
The distance of 7500 km or 4500 miles between Poland and Sri Lanka takes several hours by plane to cover. Once you embark you can get a first feeling of it thanks to the climate of a high temperature and humidity, typical of coastal areas. However, the upland’s temperature resembles that of summer in Poland, so being there is not so disturbing for many of us. We had traveled to Asia aiming to find diversity and relaxation and escaping Europe’s intense and speedy life. Indeed, we found a peaceful place, time to think and a bout of positive energy. Two years ago accidently I chose Sri Lanka for my vacations. In fact, I hardly even knew where this country was located nor had I a clear idea of what was

to be expected of this exotic place. As a photographer I hoped that bringing back some interesting photos from this trip would be worth taking the trip. Unexpectedly my journey turned out to be a fascinating experience, both with its people and the country itself. I took hundreds of pictures and I recorded hundreds of interesting places during my trip. I came back happy, just to realize that I am hungry for more. Immediately I knew I had to come back to Sri Lanka. Indeed, since then I had traveled there two more times. Sri Lanka is an island and because of its climate it presents to her visitors richness and a great variety of local fauna and flora. I was amazed to see the many species of wild animals and birds, including leopards,

bears and elephants at the Yala National Park. However, an unforgettable sighting that left an impression on me was of a group of elephants that I happened to spot at a short distance from me and close to the hotel where I was staying. Their size, their majestic grace and at the same time their fragility were breathtaking. I extremely enjoyed the lush and flourishing nature in the national parks and in countryside villages, thanks to artificial water reservoirs that colorfully shaped the local landscapes throughout the country. These extraordinary surroundings had posed a challenge for me as a photographer. I was purposely leaving my hotel where I was staying, in the early hours to capture pictures of the sunrise by the sea or during the awakening of the jungle or nearby village. www.ballysmagazine.com

Focused on capturing the best images, there were times I kept forgetting how I got there in the place and could not findmy way back to the hotel. Hopefully, there was always somebody to help me. Nilaveli, Uppuvelli and the coral reef at Pigeon Island displayed picturesque beaches on the north-east coast and did make lasting impressions on me. Fishing boats with fishermen emptying their net illuminated by the soft rays of the early hour’s sun had left me speechless. I hope I will keep these pictures as hallmarks of a vacation that was spent in Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Mihintale, Dambulla, Sigiriya and Kandy reminded me of several Polish travelers and artists who visited these places in the nineteenth century. I found Anuradaphura, the first capital, the most extraordinary city with

Or maybe because of the unique pleasures I get in my memorable journeys through the upland areas covered with carpets of tea fields, gilded with the sun and shrouded in the morning mist. I learned the way tea leaves were collected, I witnessed laborious work of women on the plantations and in the factory, and I got acquainted with the whole production cycle of the various types of tea which is being drunk generally in Poland.
its uniqueness; it was a fallen city that once felt empty, taken over by jungle and was rediscovered in the XIX century. It has today become a touristic attraction and its ruins testify how developed this civilization was and the people who had built it. Galle, Colombo, Trincomalee and Kandy on the other hand, brought me closer to the colonial past and its architecture. Particularly charming was the old part of Galle with its narrow streets around the fort. Sitting with a cup of tea in one of the seaside restaurants I admired a beautiful sunset there. The taste of tea in Sri Lanka is special to me. This might be due to the water or the freshness of the tea itself or maybe because of the place and the circumstances in which I was drinking it.
Meeting people and conversing with them is the best way to discover a country. It is no doubt popular wisdom. Indeed, I learned a lot about local life and customs from friendly Sri Lankans that I met. Obviously, photography has helped me meet people and get to know their lives. In fact, this was not difficult, as many of them had voluntarily asked me to take pictures of them. Occasionally we were doing even selfies together. One of the women that I had photographed invited me for a birthday party of her one-year-old son. I was struck by this extraordinary openness of the local people, by comparison, a rare attitude among people in Europe. Much in the way I see Sri Lanka now, I believe, I owe to my guide Buddhika Gomis. This is not only showing gratitude to the excellent job he did as being my guide but also due to his kindness and hospitality he showed to me and my friends. It was thanks to his hospitality
that let us meet his family, his mother and sister and for the cookery lessons we got on preparing some Sri Lankan dishes that has made me cherish this country in my memory forever. As a photographer I had tried to express all these feelings and emotions of Sri Lanka and its people through the landscape in my pictures and I can only hope that viewers will relate with it. Everyone in their travels look for something different. Now, from the perspective of Europe, when I think of Sri Lanka, I believe that the greatest wealth is its people - truly welcoming with great energy and calmness, and in some sense similar to the Poles! Thus the total count of a hand can be a single digit number ranging from 0 to 9, depending on the total value of the cards in your hand. Nine (9) would be the highest count, eight (8) the second highest count and the list continues in descending order. The hand (a Player hand or a Banker hand), which has the highest total, is the winner. Table limits: Minimum is LKR 1 000 (USD 10) while maximum LKR 5 000 000 (USD 35 000)

Blackjack
Blackjack is one of the most populist casino games. The objective of this game is to draw card(s) totaling 21 or as close to 21. The player wins if his total is higher than the dealer.
The points system of Blackjack is organized as follows: Kings, Queens and Jacks all count as 10, whereas an Ace can be either 1 or 11, depending on your choice – the idea is to use the Ace at your advantage. All other cards count as their face value.
Commencement of play shall begin when the Dealer announces “Place your bets, please”. The winning number is determined when the ball has come to a rest in any compartment of the wheel.
In case the House’s first card is an Ace, you have the special option of making an “Insurance”. An Insurance will provide you with a countermeasure against the House having a possible Blackjack before you.
Bally’s Single Zero wheels offer the best chance of winning at the Roulette tables and you also can try our electronic Roulette and the Roulette and Roulette table with neighbour bets.
Blackjack is more alluring since Bally’s allow generous rules including surrender, double on any two cards and double after splitting multiple times. Bally’s also offers a variety of side bet options including pairs and bonus Blackjack.

determined until the dealer reveals their cards. There are many card combinations which make it a real thinking game and also includes great bonus payouts. Texas Hold’Em Bonus Poker also gives you the opportunity for an optional bet called “Bonus Wager” which involves players comparing their two hole cards to a payout table. The payment of the Bonus Wager is not tied with players winning in the main game if the wager has been placed prior to any cards being dealt to the player. The aim of the game is for your Poker hand.
Three Card Poker
As the name suggests, this three card game is becoming the most popular version in this region. Players try to beat the dealer while attempting to win big on our jackpots.
Asian Poker
Asia Poker is based on five cards, and is a version of stud poker. The game is played with single deck of 52 cards. The game is made more challenging and exciting because players have the additional chance. This five card version allows players to fully interact with the dealer while attempting to have a higher hand than the dealer. The player also wishes the dealer to qualify in order to reap more benefits and many side bet options including the bonus bet.
Texas Hold’em Bonus Poker

Sic Bo
Sic Bo is an Ancient Chinese game that involves three dices and a specific gaming table. Also known as Tai Sai is an ancient Chinese game played with three dice in a sealed contained. The players can predict the numbers on the dice after they have been mechanically shaken.
Rapid Roulette
Rapid Roulette is a version of roulette that you will only see at live casinos. It is like a combination of a real roulette wheel with electronic betting instead of placing chips on the table. Similar to classic Roulette, it combines the physical roulette wheel with electronic betting instead of physically placing chips on the playing table. As far as the rules go, Rapid Roulette has the same set of rules as traditional Roulette games.
Casino War
Casino War is based off the most basic and easy card game: War. The gameplay involves players making a bet on who is to draw the highest card. However, Casino War extends a bit beyond the boundaries of the traditional War playing card game. There is a special side wager that players can make. This is the so called “Tie Bet” – players bet that the first two cards of the game will be a tie. If they have guessed right, the payout for the Tie Bet is 10 to 1. B

The Fastest Casino Game
Where You
Are The Winner E ver wanted to play a fast paced card game, with a higher chance of winning? Then playing Baccarat at Bally’s Casino Colombo is your one and only option.
Bally’s Casino is Sri Lanka’s largest casino with an exponentially large crowd that fills up the casino floor almost everyday. It is a major tourist attraction and brings in individuals from all corners of the world. We all know that each and every country has its preferred card game that are frequented at casinos. Bally’s Casino caters to all of these needs by providing various card games and other games, handled by trained and professional dealers. www.ballysmagazine.com
Baccarat is one of them. It is a fast paced comparing card game played between two hands, the "player" and the "banker". Each baccarat coup has three possible outcomes: "player", "banker", and "tie".
the fact that all ten, Jacks, Queens and Kings have a value of zero. It also refers to any hand that has a total of zero so for instance a hand of seven and three also equals zero and therefore baccarat.
First things first;
While the game was first noted in the 1400’s it took over 500 years to become one of the premier casino games in Europe. In particular the game was popular among the French royalty. At this point there were several versions being played. In Europe the chemin de fer variation was the most popular while in England punto banco was the game of choice. Interestingly enough it was the English version that would make its way to the US via South America.
Here’s a bit of Baccarat history Baccarat first appeared in 1400’s France but was preceded by similar games like Macao, Oicho-Kabu, and Gabo japji. Baccarat is by far, one of the oldest games played at casinos throughout the world. The name baccarat is in fact derived from the Italian word “baccarat” which quite simply means zero. This refers to

Over the years there have been three versions of the game that have remained popular. These are baccarat chiming de far, baccarat banquet and punto banco. All versions use virtually identical sets of rules with the major difference being how the cards are dealt. The most widespread version you will find today in casinos in the US is punto banco or mini baccarat where the dealer deals all of the cards and the players just bet on one of the three outcomes. Today in most casinos in the United States you will most often only find mini baccarat tables. This is for several reasons. The big table versions almost always have high minimum bets so tend to be tucked away in the high roller sections of the casinos. The mini baccarat tables have much lower limits so are quite widespread across casino floors.
Much like the game was popular with the French nobility it is now one of the most popular games among the casino royalty - the high rollers. The world's biggest gamblers all seem to love the game and it is not uncommon for millions of dollars to change hands in session. In fact baccarat is such a big bettors game that occasionally you will see the losses at the baccarat tables reflected in casino annual business reports. www.ballysmagazine.com

Baccarat: The Fastest Casino Game Where You Are The Winner
The most recent development in baccarat history is online baccarat. Online casinos offer mini baccarat tables using the standard American rules. The cards are dealt using a random number generator or RNG and displayed as graphics on your screen. Some online gambling sites also offer LIVE dealers where you are connected to a video link of a real dealer dealing cards. While we don’t recommend any particular online casinos you can in most cases play baccarat for free so they offer a great way to learn the game without spending any money.
Baccarat at Bally’s At the begining cards are dealt by the dealer to the player’s side and the banker’s side. If one bets for the player, he or she becomes the player. Likewise, if one bets for the banker, he or she becomes the player. Once the cards are dealt and the bets are made, the cards are turned face up and the total is taken into consideration. Whichever total is higher wins. In Baccarat, the image cards are of no value- meaning that the Jack, Queen and King cards are zero. The other www.ballysmagazine.com
cards (Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) has its face values. Players are dealt minimum two cards or a maximum of three, depending on the total of the cards. It is always the choice of the player to ask for the third card. Example: Player is dealt two cards and the banker is dealt two cards. Player has 2 and 3 while the Banker gets 8 and 6. Player has a total value of 5, while the Banker has 14. However, the unit number is removed so the 14 is consider 4. A 10 will be considered 0, a 11 as 1, 12 as 2, 13 as 3, 15 as 5, 16 as 6, 17 as 7, 18 as 8 and 19 as 9. In this case, the Banker wins. The values will be always less than 10 and the highest value is nine. Whoever is closest to that wins. In a Tie situation, if both totals are the same it will act as a bonus. If someone has bet on a tie, and if both the totals are the same, then that person is paid nine times your bet. At Bally’s Baccarat the minimum bet is LKR 1000 while the maximum could go up to LKR four million. In the new high stakes area, the maximum Baccarat bet would be LKR six million. In addition
Bally’s has a variety of Baccarat tables that allows more than two players to participate. Bally’s is undoubtedly the highest winning casino in the world and it comes with its own unique additions to Baccarat. One of these additions is the Super Six bet. If a player bets on the Banker 6 (where the player is paid only half the bet, according to international records) and the Banker comes with a total of six, the player is paid 15 times the bet. No other casino has this concept and is only found in Sri Lanka. For Bally’s, it’s always the benefit of the customer and concepts like this is an added bonus to them. Baccarat is a game of pure chance and the players win by genuine luck. Therefore, everyone has a chance at winning. If Lady Luck is on your shoulder, whispering good deeds, then this is definitely the game for you. And what better place is there to win it at other than your very own Bally’s! B

As a pioneer in the hospitality trade Hilton Colombo has always prided itself in providing an impeccable service and continues to make revolutionary strides in the field of food and beverage. The teams’ dedication and commitment to the brand and passion to push the envelope, has been the foundation of our continuous growth as a brand that has elevated the benchmark for service standards and this new experience in dining will not disappoint its clientele. Step into L.A.B; the Lobby Lounge and Bar and treat yourself to a truly unique lounging experience. Centrally themed around the waning rainforests of Sri Lanka, guests are invited to reminisce in this abstracted indoor Tropicana. Beautiful Brazilian snow fox granite paves the floor, sweeping from the arrival hall all the way through the lobby lounge andbar, leading the eye to the windows fringing the bar which looks out into the lotus pond. Plush leather armchairs and sofas grace the lobby. Washed in colours homogenous with natural, earthy tones, a tranquil www.ballysmagazine.com
atmosphere is fostered throughout the space. Carpets lining the ground where these furniture rest are patterned to reflect the verdure of the rainforest, and don deep grey, cinnamon and beige colours that flatter the surrounding facets perfectly. On the walls rest an exquisite titanium travertine, bookmatched to create a seamless flow which draws the eye from one area of the lobby to the next. Pause to admire the elegant flowing wall sculpture fabricated from woven wood, which reminds one of clouds calmly passing by on a warm day. The high ceiling of the lobby lounge employs a conceptual canopy bearing resemblance to the shade provided by

overhanging trees in the rainforest. The curved lines running smoothly from pillar to pillar evoke in one a sense of peace and calm. Crevasses in the ceiling make use of warm cove lighting to help emphasize the impression of light shining through the leaves of trees. Each structural pillar has meandering contours which help shape the image of tree trunks leading up to the leaves on the ceiling. As guests amble towards the bar, sculptures of wild, wandering deer and leopard can be seen. These sculptures serve to allude to the trials and tribulations animals encounter in losing their homes in the rainforests of Sri Lanka. Beneath the feet of these sculptures lays a wall-to-wall carpet which defines the floor of the seating area directly facing the lotus pond. The colours of the carpets take inspiration from the Sri Lankan rainforests adorning deep greens and robust browns, interspersed with pale yellow and grey that complement the furniture to add to the tropical aura of the lounge. The large serpentine sofa central to the seating area relates to guests the concept of fallen trees in the rainforest.Wander to the bar where an alluring parched wooden structure stretches from floor to ceiling, drawing attention to the condition of the dwindling rainforests. Under the outreaching Burmese teakwood, guests can enjoy a cool drink from the extensive beverage menu and admire the view of the lotus pond where koi fish, ducks and swans idle about their day.Expert sommelier, butler quality
team members will show off their bar showmanship with impeccable service. To add to the glamour, a sophisticated live jazz band will play daily during the evening hours. The 709 square-meter all-day dining restaurant, GRAZE KITCHEN is a multifaceted restaurant showcasing a live and interactive dining experience with high energy serving team members. The word origin from old English grasian, means grass. The original sense for cookery is to eat small portions of food throughout the day rather than formal meals. Contemporary in design, the atmosphere at GRAZE KITCHEN is inspired by nature with organic sculptural features and lighting, and warm natural earthen color tones. The birds nest inspired chandelier with four distinct venue spaces that offer guests different ambient and visual cues, lighting that changes from day to night to create a subtle change in mood and environment. In addition to the show kitchen experience there is alfresco dining on the deck. The restaurant that could accommodate up to 240 is opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a la carte menu option as well. The show kitchen in pod like shapes allows guests to be involved in the action of preparation by selecting their own ingredients in a market style environment and having the chefs prepare the dishes a la minute. Featuring

authentic specialty chefs under one roof, guests could enjoy diversity ofcuisines such as Sri Lankan, Indian Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Italian and Mediterranean. The large seating capacity also includes 2 private dining rooms, ideal venues for small meetings and gatherings. Each room is designed with its own personality and features to perform specific functions. Be it for power lunches over business that require audio visual support and facilities or a private venue with a view, these rooms will add a new dimension to private room dining. Guests will also be experiencing classical glass wear and porcelain with simple yet elegant table set ups. “Every guest who walks in to the restaurant will be experiencing a world class service from the dedicated team members who have been working around the clock for the last couple of months. I am truly proud of the team and what we have to offer our guests”. saysManesh Fernando, general manager, Hilton Colombo.“ GRAZE KITCHEN and LAB - Lounge & Bar offers a completely new menu with an emphasis on fresh, natural produce and satisfying globally inspired flavors.” added Fernando. NEWS Fairway Holdings takes Sri Lankan hospitality to a whole new level with ZMAX Fairway Colombo
The ‘Z’ in ZMAX Fairway Colombo is a representation of generation Z. A generation that values connectivity, privacy and the environment, which is exactly what, the hotel
Greeted at the entrance by cheerful and of checking in is carried out without the use of a single piece of paper. Tastefully abstract paintings are the only form of decoration upon the walls. Painted solely by renowned artist, Anoma Wijewardena, the paintings depict natural phenomena brought to life with intricate and skilled brushwork. Each guest is presented with a key card, which grants access to the elevator as well as the respective room. The room comes alive as a guest enters, thanks to ultra-sensitive motion sensors, and
Strolling down Hospital Street one is surrounded by buildings that have stood for over a hundred years as a legacy of the colonial era. Approaching the ZMAX Fairway Colombo, the seven-story building fits into the neighborhood like the missing piece of a puzzle, mirroring the colonial architecture of the surrounding buildings. However, upon entering the hotel it’s as if one has left behind the old and stepped into the new. “From the very beginning of construction – you may recall that the site was a bare piece of land that served as a car park - we were quite aware of the need to ensure that the hotel merged with the surrounding environment and architecture. Our goal was to make sure that when you walk along the arcade, you would feel as if your surroundings were part of a structure that has been around since colonial times. The last thing we wanted was to be guilty of disrupting the structural environment of this particular area”, said the Group CEO of Fairway Holdings, Mr. Imal Fonseka.

of preserving electricity. Just as in the lobby there is no paper to be found in the room, not in the form of a menu or telephone directory. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable, each with a clean and well-maintained bathroom attached. ZMAX Fairway Colombo comprises meeting rooms, a gym, a food court and a total of 181 rooms that range from single bedrooms to family rooms, some of which come complete with a pantry and living room. The hotel also features guests. There is nothing that has not been thought of from the most minute of details like the choice of crockery for the rooms that come with a pantry, to the special additions to the accessible rooms. However, the key feature of each room is varying channels to suit the interests of the guests, but also a selection of restaurants from which a guest may select their choice of dish and have it delivered to the hotel without ever having to leave the room. But should one wish to dine out, the hotel’s location places one within walking distance of some of the most renowned restaurants and pubs in Colombo.
“The focus of this particular target group is very clear and these are the types of things they look for. So that’s what we provide in this place. If you look at the current generation their whole link to the outside world is through a screen, so that’s the type of experience we provide. With a remote and the screen everything is accessible. We’ve taken great care to assure that we’ve created a well-connected hotel. Another thing they’re very concerned about is their privacy. That’s why there’s no banquet hall. This is to make sure that upon entering a guest is not greeted by 500 people crowded in the lobby, nor will our guests have to endure the sounds of loud music and the sounds of celebration. Another characteristic of this group of customers, is they are very much aware of the environment, they don’t want to feel guilty about leaving too much of an impact or footprint on the environment. It is a thought we at Fairway understand all too well, which is why we have gone to great lengths to ensure that all of the hotel’s activities and various processes are environment friendly. Unlike most hotels, we’re not trying to attract everyone; our goal is to attract a particular group of customers to whom these things are important”, explained Mr. Fonseka. Speaking about Fairway Holdings’ partnership with the Plateno Group Mr. Fonseka had this to say, “They are the top ranking hotel group in China. When we began discussions with the company, they were number 7 in the world and today they’ve risen to number 5. This shows that Plateno, much like Fairway Holdings is a company of the future. Fairway Holdings brings smart luxury to life in the form of ZMAX Fairway Colombo - Sri Lanka’s most technologically advanced city privacy through high-tech innovation.
