Further Research

The findings from the research project have identified three key areas that require

further investigation and research:

• Further research needs to be undertaken with professionals responsible for delivering New Resettlement Areas. This would identify the barriers and facilitator that they experience in delivering the intervention and the issues that they would address going forward.

• Further research is needed in other case study areas to determine if the results from this study are supported elsewhere. Future studies should explore VIC and New Resettlement Areas of different sizes. This would help build up a critical mass in terms of evidence from multiple case studies to identify areas of commonality and difference.

• Further research is needed to explore the extent to which resident opinions and perspectives provided are true and credible. This research recognizes that the responses of local residents may in some way be influenced by the support they are receiving from the local government which may prevent them being negative about the resettlement process. More participatory, insider research may enable more authentic, community perspectives to emerge. For example, an analysis of anonymous community blogs can often generate ‘truer’ perspectives as they know that their comments can be hidden behind user names and pseudonyms.
