In China arid region, the traditional artificial retention pond design gradually brings environmental issues and economic burden to local residents due to its backward design practice. The purpose of this design proposal on artificial retention pond design is to explore alternative design for China arid regions. Question the applicability of traditional design in arid climatic and environmental conditions. The site is concentrated on Inner Mongolia University Campus retention pond. 0

In terms of the proposed design, In order to maintain a healthy water body, to use different design strategies to create a ‘live’ waterscape in needed. Multiple biopurification layers are applied around water body, which becomes a filter barrier. At the mean time create open public spaces also could be seen as an education site. Contaminants are carried by runoff and flow into the lake. Surface Runoff

University Campus Pond Design Perspective
The new retention pond design is dealing with multiple problems exist in the old design. After applying the new design, the new retention pond could be seen as a soft infrastructure, which provides health social space, water energy saving, and economic friendly design. In a long-term perspective, the small pattern could affect future city development, which introduced a new design thinking to future city planning.

Design Proposal
Metro Station
The strategy with the proposed development and a selling point is the concept of interaction with surroundings. The proposed master plan outlines a very general land use pattern in order to remain flexible to the neighborhood, city, and regional industry market. The fundamental infrastructure (roads, electricity, and other energy systems) has already begun construction and one of the project goals is to engage with the adjacent neighborhood and incorporate the surrounding context.

Nonflood Season Elevation:16.3ft.
Design Concept: Based on site topography, introduce large water body into the site in order to reduce 20-year flood pressure. New water body create wide open water access, which assigned to different water recreational program. Well organized new circulation create a holistic park for this area. Remove existing ball fields, create new landform playground as the landmark for the City of Ames.

06 Downtown Boone Bells PLaCE-making at 8th Site Location: Boone Iowa By Nuo Man
The site is a vacant lot on the corner of Story Street and 8th Street where a 3-story mixed-use building stood until it was destroyed by fire in 2009. The building had been part of the historic “Main Street”-style urban fabric of Boone, such that it now exists as an empty corner at a very prominent downtown intersection. DESIGN INTENT
Site photo
The students’ individual projects reflect a diversity of approaches for transformation of the project site from vacant lot to public open space/landmark, but all solutions had to address and satisfy a set of general objectives. The objectives were derived from meetings with Boone stakeholders and from consensus-building discussions conducted within the studio.

06 Downtown Boone Bells PLaCE-making at 8th Site Location: Boone Iowa By Nuo Man These objectives include: • Create an urban park at the northwest corner of Story Street and 8th Street that comfortably accommodates incidental public use but also supports special events use (such as farmers markets or performances). • Design the landscape as an imageable and unique “landmark” for the sake of memorability and to create a distinct place that can become uniquely associated with Boone. • Design the landscape as an imageable and unique “landmark” for the sake of memorability and to create a distinct place that can become uniquely associated with Boone.
