This issue is our final for 2018. It has been an incredible year of growth for us. We have reached over 7 million readers since we started in 2015, and are working with some of the brightest creative minds in the industry here in New York and beyond. Three years ago, I was shooting clothes from stores like The Gap, and Bloomingdales. The catch was I would buy, shoot, and return. Now, we are invited to work with some of the best menswear brands in the business. Last February I attended the TOM FORD NYFW show for men. It was the first time he showed during men's week. It moved me. First, I was just happy to be invited. Second, when I arrived the entire Armory was dimly lit in lavender, and the staff greeted me with a cocktail. The attendees were not teenagers or young college students skipping class to get an Instagram, it was Russel Wilson, his wife Ciara, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, and so many other industry leaders, trend setters, and fashion icons. After attending almost 4 full years of NYFW shows I knew this was what a fashion show was supposed to be. It was elegant, sexy, high-end, and when the music started it was a show! I experienced a sensory overload of emotions. When I was in college in computer class I would sit in the back of the classroom so I could search runway images during class and now; I had arrived at a TOM FORD show, holy shit! The winter coats, the custom shades, the boots, the
layers, and the brand new underwear collection! I was swept away by the whole thing. The show went by like a flash of lightning across the sky but I remember saying, I didn't come here tonight just to watch a show, I am going to take action. So with that commitment, I am so proud to present Issue 12, a TOM FORD HOLIDAY. I want to thank Sinem Yazici, Eric Cano and Colleen Crawford for working on this project with me. I can't think of a better way to close out the year than with everything TOM FORD for our cover. In this issue, we also take you out west in Young Cowboys by Amber McKee, and into the cold in Winter Advisory by Ryan Slack. We have also included our Holiday Gift Guide produced by Standard Studio NYC as a special insert. Get some gift ideas for HIM, or you; and we also share a few gift ideas for HER this year! These pages represent almost 100 people's passion and commitment. It is an honor and privilege to work beside each of them. TOM OF FINLAND & CDLP CREATE Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen, Finnish, 1920–1991), is the creator of some of the most iconic, unrestrained, and readily recognizable imagery of contemporary gay culture. He is regarded as one of the most in uential artists of the 20th century. CDLP, founded in 2016, is the Stockholmbased men’s underwear brand that has a different story to tell. One that revels in a world of ‘intellectual masculinity’ as told through a distinctive visual narrative, high-precision design, and sustainable production. Studying the body of work of the artist, CDLP noted that underwear—a fashion feature seen throughout his hedonistic liberation, and in effect designed by Tom of Finland—had never been di- rectly conceived into reality. These very depictions provided the design inspiration behind a limited edition Jock Strap and Tanga Brief, presented in black and white respectively, a tting tribute to the monochromatic palette of the art. A subtle detail is seen in the waistband designs with “Tom 79” and “Tom 82” signatures embroidered. Each style is accompanied by a portrait of the artist and a limited edition print, and presented in a custom box featuring some of Tom’s most iconic work. “Tom’s in uence on fashion and imprint on popular culture is undeniable. Designers that include Jean-Paul Gaultier, Tom Ford and Helmut Lang have been in uenced by his work.
