We are almost halfway through 2019, which means Summer is here! I always have fun planning for the Summer Issue because I start thinking about concepts and content in the dead of winter around the same time I need sun on my face, the smell of salty ocean air and the sights and sounds of another Independence Day celebration. This issue was inspired by the action we take our bodies through each summer. Maybe you were like me growing up and every summer you jumped off docks into a freshwater lake, or you have vivid memories about that first time you tasted the salty waters of the ocean and were brave enough to battle the big waves of the Atlantic or Pacific? One thing is for certain, our bodies went into overdrive every Summer as kids, each of these experiences felt like a new adventure and a new challege to conquer. Now that I'm older, I look back to those days riding my BMX bike to the local pool, dreaming of upgrading my boogie board to a surfboard and the long summer nights playing on the beach with sparklers as the some of my purest memories of Summer. This issue was born out of that nostalgia and is inspired by the men of today who constantly see to be part of the action. They are always up for adventure and a little adrenaline rush.
In this issue, our cover stories follow, surfer and model Tommy Hackett to the beaches of Barcelona in, Into The Blue. Model Conor Fay turns the beaches near Coney Island into his very own playground in, Summer Days. Austin Augie shows off his moves and effortless style on his BMX bike and vintage motor bike in Easy Rider. We bring you Hardwear, and epic skater story shot in Brooklyn with model Jaeger Hill by Ryan Slack. FInally, we return with another installment of FACETIME by Brent Chua, and don't miss Valentine Rontez flawless looks and moves in Star Man by Andrew Parsons. We sit down with CEO and Founder, Alfonso Cobo of Unfold, designer Robert Cavalli of Triple RRR and introduce you to some of New York's brightest stars in the health and fitness industry. This is Issue 14, A Man Of Action. I hope you read something that makes you think. I hope you see something that makes you dream and above all I hope you find the courage to take action and do something that excites you. You can do it!

Precision Run by Equinox is a new boutique treadmill experience that opened in New York last month. Equinox is known for it's beautiful clubs around the world with state of the art equipment and amenities. I stopped by the new treadmill running spot to try it out myself and found the focus on technique, numbers and some slick ambiant lighting to be both straight forward and motivating for this former track runner and cross country runner of many years ago. Founder of Precision Run by Equinox, David Siik focuses on adjustments in speed and incline are intentional and incredibly precise. We found the exact formula for balancing incline, speed, and duration to minimize impact and maximize performance. Our BITE Method (Balanced Interval Training Experience), paired with our signature PR metric, gives us the opportunity to deliver the same personalized experience to runners of all levels. My Run with Chelsea Aguiar was called 'Back Step.' It was a 2 Segment Run with

1:1 work to rest ratios. Each segment focused on different variables in incline and speed, challenging both your mental focus and athleticism. Don't worry if you are not a runner. I used to be one with more years between running and this class that I would like to admit. The intervals are short and you customize your pace from start to finish. The "smart" treadmills allow to set speeds, recovery pace, and quick bumps in inlcline and speed without having to operate while running for more than a press of a button. When you first walk into the space the room is lit with ambient lighting and once the class starts the colors match every portion of the class, blue for recovery, red for the faster stuff. I burned over 500 calories and clocked almost 5 miles in barely an hour and left the class soaked. If you are looking for cardio, a new workout, a place to push yourself with friends, or a well produced fitness experience start at Precision Run.

Summer is here and it's time to throw a new bottle of cologne in that weekender. Three new scents to help you freshen up your personal style this season. LEFT: BOSS Hugo Boss Infinite; This energising and sensual fragrance combines the freshness of citrus with the intensity of aromatic and woody notes. TOP: GUCCI Guilty; A modern reinterpretation of a classic cologne, a centuriesold Italian scent created with a contemporary drydown with wood and citrus. How were you scouted or discovered as a model? I was discovered when I was at the beach with my dad, a guy came to me and he asked me I had never thought about being a model. I was at my last year at the University, I finished my Veterinarian degree and then I started modeling.

ries at the beach in my hometown. You could see the best beaches in Spain! Words to live by? Everything happens for a reason. Everything leads to something better.
Do you remember your first booking/shoot, brand and who shot it? What was your favorite part? It was in Barcelona for Lancome, the photographers were Mert and Marcus and the main character was Taylor Hill, my role was secondary. I felt like I was a top model at my first job.
What do you enjoy doing over the Summer months to keep your body fine-tuned while having fun outdoors? Every summer I go home for holidays, I am from Spain, from a place called "La Costa Brava" we have beautiful beaches and mountains there. I love to swim in the sea, to hike the mountains and to spend time riding around with my mountain bike. Do you play any action sports? Yes, I do practice snowboard and ski in winter time, sometimes I do practice cliff jumping with my friends in summer time. A few years ago I did practice Motocross but then I stopped when I started to travel, it was the sport I liked the most. I love the speed and the adrenaline.

FELIPE How were you scouted or discovered as a model? I come from a small town from the northeast region of Brazil called Cabo de Santo Agostinho. I was going to get my hair cut and I was discovered by an agency scout…that’s how it all began.
Do you remember your first booking/shoot, brand and who shot it? What was your favorite part? My first modeling job was in a regional denim campaign shot back home. I was really happy because an international model from my hometown was cast in the campaign as well. She was my 1st example of a very successful local model so the opportunity to work with her was an amazing opportunity. The experience has been a motivating force in my career.

After I moved to the US from France, I started working in construction with my father for about three years until I finally decided to take a chance with modeling in the city. After visiting a few agencies and having a few contracts offers I finally dropped the hammer forever and began my career by choosing to become a model for Click models.

Do you remember your first booking/shoot, brand and who shot it? What was your favorite part? My first shoot was with a talented photographer named Menelik Puryear. What do you enjoy doing over the Summer months to keep your body fine-tuned while having fun outdoors? During summer I love the fact that there is just so many activities you can do. I especially enjoy going to the beach and surf which always keeps me In shape. Besides that I just play lots of sports, hike and just stay active however I can. Do you play any action sports? Does Back in France I used to play professional basketball. After a bad knee injury my career just didn’t go any further but I kept a very dynamic lifestyle. How were you scouted or discovered as a model? I was surprisingly scouted on Instagram. After a few months of ignoring the opportunity, I went to an open call and signed with two agencies my first day. One of which, is Wilhelmina.

Words to live by? Grace. Love. Forgiveness.
Do you remember your first booking/shoot, brand and who shot it? What was your favorite part? My first booking was in Portland, Oregon for Adidas. The shoot was for Damian Lillard, who was dropping his new shoe at the time. He’s an idol to kids on the west coast so when school got out, he had the stylists dress the kids up in full Adidas fits and incorporated them into the shoot. Afterwards, everyone went home with the fit given to them. Seeing that generosity was truly special. What do you enjoy doing over the Summer months to keep your body fine-tuned while having fun outdoors? During the summer months, I love to stay outside for exercise. I enjoy taking my jump rope to the park and doing calisthenics in between sets of jump rope. I’m also a pretty mean badminton player. Do you play any action sports? I really enjoy snowboarding when I’m on the west coast but, during the summer months I’ve been really getting into riding waves and pavement. I love skating because it’s a great cardio exercise and a speedy form of transportation. What can our readers expect to see on your IG stories this Summer? Readers can expect to see a lot of beaches and smiles this summer!

In this role he oversees Unfold’s creative direction, product vision and strategy. Under his leadership, the app garnered 20M users in a year.
What were you like growing up, how would your friends and family describe you? I was a very shy and introverted kid growing up . Many of my friends would doubt that though, as I’ve changed quite a bit! Or at least I’ve had to adapt myself to be less of it.
Cobo has a Master’s in Strategic Design and Management from Parsons School of Design (USA) and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Brighton (UK). A native of the Canary Islands in Spain, Cobo is based in NYC and is driven by good design, tech and adventure.
I grew up in Madrid, Spain. My teen years were interesting to say the least. I had many friends, but I always had that feeling of being a little different to the rest. There were two sides of me: the one I wanted to show to the world, and the one that I really was. I started going out pretty early on, and sometimes hung with kids I shouldn’t have hung out with. I kind of hid many of my interests or passions because I was afraid of showing how much of a ‘weirdo’ or ‘nerd’ I really was. It’s funny though, because nowadays I embrace that side I wanted to hide so much back then. Those things that seemed ‘weird’ or ‘not-cool’ are now the things I like to embrace the most.
Alfonso was listed as one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30” 2019 and Fast Company’s “Most Creative in Business 2019”

Prior to this role, Cobo served as an architectural designer in London, designing innovative spaces for education, hospitality and residential schemes. He also developed design strategies and brand identities as a visual designer in Spain.

rience that made you who you are today? Spending so many hours in the studio and going through intense crits with my peers made us extremely close - it genuinely felt like a family. We all came from different economic and social backgrounds, but we were in it together. From the field of architecture itself, I would say I learnt to appreciate deeply what’s behind the façade. The small details and parts people wouldn’t pay too much attention. The back of the house. Tell us what you were doing 6 months before Unfold hit the Apple app store? I was getting my Masters degree in Strategy and Business Management! It was great because I could concentrate on the tools and processes I needed or wanted to learn to bring my ideas to life. I know many entrepreneurs love saying “you shouldn’t go to school”, but it was honestly a great experience for me. However, I must say I feel I adapted the system to cater to what I wanted to get out of it, instead of adapting myself to the system.
try and get a piece of the cake, so now I’m always on alert mode. It also taught me to really believe in myself - this is the most confident I’ve ever been. This has guided me to gravitate to what makes me uncomfortable, which is where magic happens. I’ve also learnt to defend my time. Choose what I enjoy, makes me happy, what I really want to do. I’ve started to say no much more often. A lot of things are hard, and I have struggled, but just because something is a challenge doesn't mean you have to suffer. A lot of lessons learnt. If you could do 1 thing differently when you started the app what would it be and why? If I make a decision, I truly believe it’s the correct one at that point in time, so I wouldn’t go back and change anything. Having said that, I would not do some things again, such as mixing up friendships with business. I learnt a hard lesson from that.
Why do you think Unfold app has resonated with so many people and brands? What were the days and weeks leading up to the app I started building Unfold for myself and then realised many launch like? others had that same desire to create and share that I had. It’s I am quite impatient (I’m getting a lot better at it though!), so I a product that is rooted in my passions and love for travelling, just couldn’t wait to get it out to the world. Unfold is a pivot from photography, design and tech. Unfold re-interprets the aesthetic my previous app, Portafolio, and it was my last shot. If it didn’t of storytelling mediums from analog photography to indepenwork out, I would have gone to do something else (probably dent magazine editorial, and makes it accessible to everyone. more related to my career!). We have managed to democratise design. Best part? The best part after launching was seeing the support from my friends. Not only real life friends, but internet friends (yes, the kind my mom would always tell me not to make). Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to grow the product. Up until this day, we haven’t spend a single dollar in marketing.
Social media, and most specifically stories, has become a visual extension of any brand’s own presentation book. Brands love to collaborate with us due to the impact and reach of the Stories format through the power of design and Unfold’s community of 20 million storytellers — one of the most creative and digitallyengaged audiences on the planet. Design possibilities are endless with our amazing and highly creative team.

so much that I asked him if he wanted to create a template collection with us. The Journal Collection was born from this collaboration. If we talk about influencers, I love seeing Tyler Oakley (@tyleroakly) and Aida Domenech (@dulceida) - two of the biggest influencers in the world, creating very engaging content with Unfold for their followers. They have also supported Unfold from the very start without ever asking anything in exchange. I’ll always be very appreciative to them.
In all honesty, I used to do this. Wake up every day at 4am or 5am to start working with my team based in the other side of the world. However, in my opinion those crazy hours reflected negatively in how I managed the team or my work load. I’ve learnt to have more normal work hours, which has lead to more productivity and better-decision making. However, I do have to do exercise every day. Usually in the middle of a work day. It really helps me to have a mental break I sometimes need.
What can we expect from Unfold this Summer? This summer is going to be full of exciting releases. An in-app camera with advanced photo and video filters and effects, Film Frames 2 - the continuation of our most successful and popular collection up to date, Unfold Plus - a subscription option for our biggest fans, web stories... and much more! The user is always at the heart of everything we do, and they really shape the product depending on their feedback.
Do you unplug from work? How do you do it or how often? My favorite way to unplug is hanging out with my favorite person. He is my rock, my amulet to feel calm, safe and disconnected from the craziness. The more time we can spend together the better, but it’s hard in this city (and I also try to not be too clingy haha!) It’s fun being young and so in love.
How do you define success? Success is such a weird concept to me, and I’m still trying to figure out what it truly means. It’s something that is extremely hard to define, as everyone has their own concept and perception of it. I believe it comes from your intrinsic values, rooted in your upbringing and life experiences. A lot of people tend to correlate success with happiness and personal fulfillment, but in my opinion these are not guaranteed. Happiness doesn’t come from success, but rather from recognizing and appreciating what or who has helped us get there or how we get to share it with them. Being apart of 30 under 30 for Forbes is an amazing achievement. What achievement personally do you want our readers to know about, in essence, what matters to you that magazines and websites are not drilling down on with your story? It was an incredible (and unexpected) achievement. However, when I got on the Forbes 30U30 list, I didn’t get an ecstatic feeling of happiness, but I did feel it when I saw the genuine support and happiness from my friends. Seeing a large money figure doesn’t drive my happiness, but being able to share experiences with my loved ones does.
What do you do to be human or have fun? It might sound cliche, but I love travelling. I love getting lost and not having a plan, leaving space for improvisation and exploration. One of the reasons I chose not to have an office was so I could work while I travel. It’s hard due to time zones and workload, but it’s my goal to hack this so I can visit a different country every month. Tell us the single person on the planet that inspires you the most and why? This is such a hard question for me. I never felt like one single person inspires me, but the accumulation of actions and words of many. From entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk - his passion and curiosity, mixed with an unapologetic quirkiness which I can breathe through his social media posts, philosophers like Alain de Botton - helping me being more self-aware about my feelings and thoughts, to musicians such as Rosalia - seeing how she manages to mix influences from many cultures and is willing to take risks with her sound without compromising her artistry. Do you have any fun plans this Summer? I’m thinking of going to Iceland - it’s been on the top of my list for a while! But at some point I have to go back to Spain to visit my family and friends. Family is something I’m appreciating more and more as I get older.
I think the biggest success to come out from Unfold is seeing that we’ve sparked the imagination among millions of people. Is there anything more beautiful than that?.
I’m also renovating a small loft in Brooklyn. I’ve really missed that physicality in design, and I’m excited to create a space that feels my own.
Do you have a work uniform? If so what is it, if not why not? I don’t! I relate a uniform to restriction. Why add more rules to your life? The more free you feel, the more creative you’ll be.
Words to live by? Have fun, work hard, love harder, give back, and do whatever feels right to you as long as it doesn’t hurt others in the process. (I’m sorry if this kind of ended up sounding like that “Live, Love, Laugh” quote most teenage girls have on top of their beds! Haha)
A lot of founders say they wake up at 4AM, or crazy early and have a method to the way they start the day. Do you have a usual routine? What is it and why? or Why not?

ROBERT CAVALLI TRIPLE RRR Born in the Tuscan city from Roberto and Eva Cavalli, Robert Cavalli moved to England at a very young age to enter boarding school. This exciting and lifechanging adventure deeply influenced his personality and aesthetic vision enabling him to mature an open-minded attitude infused with both rigorous discipline and frisky creativity. A graduated from a prestigious London school, where he studied business and marketing, Robert Cavalli developed a very personal and unique style, which he is now infusing in his new TRIPLE RRR
fashion label. We sat down with Robert while he visted New York. When did you know you wanted to be a designer and why? Growing up in Florence, the heart of where some of Italy’s finest craftsmen and talents originate, I have been exposed to some of the greats in art and culture since birth. Of course, fashion and design are in my DNA. How would you describe your brand to a total stranger who doesn't follow SEASON/SEASON 201X
fashion? I would describe Triple RRR as elegant lounge and sportswear for a man who is comfortable in who he is with a daring sense of individuality. What is your favorite men's piece for FW19 and why? I don’t have one particular favorite piece from my collections. I put the same energy into developing each design, each print and silhouette. Every single piece is a part of a reflection of my full vision.

The fall collection is largely focused around the robe. Traditionally, robes are something to be worn at home. However, I like the idea of wearing a robe out to dinner or to the theatre. It’s not a beautiful coat that you should remove at dinner because otherwise it would be awkward; and it’s not a jacket either. It’s something that can be both elegant and comfortable. You have a magic credit card that will let you swipe 1 time at any story (fashion brand) where do you swipe it and what do you pick-up? As I wear all of my own designs, even customized shoes that will be included in the styling of the next collection, I’m not sure that I would shop for myself. I would most likely shop for a gift for my mother, who has been and continues to be one of my greatest supports. I would find her something special from an Italian brand because it’s important that we support all of our local artisans. Perhaps I’d find her something special from our local Santa Maria Novella, or a bespoke handbag and luggage set from Valextra. Any fun Summer travel plans or Summer vacation memories? It’s still too soon for me to finalize my summer plans. I’ve been focusing all of my creative efforts in the next collection which will show during Pitti Uomo, where I first launched Triple RRR. I will spend my summer holidays around the Mediterranean because there is nothing more beautiful than the sight and smell of the sun and the sea. This is also a great place to wear Triple RRR. Any Famous last words? “Something small and simple.” I say this but then it always turns into a party.

Sean Dixon Richard James was founded on Savile Row in 1992 by designer Richard James and his business partner Sean Dixon with a simple if cunning philosophy that remains to this day: to produce classic men’s clothing of exceptional quality and push the boundaries through colour, cut and design. We sat down with with Sean Dixon managing director of the London brand. Let's start with something different. Where were you or where did you go recently where you were impressed
or inspired by an event or experience? (which had a direct impact on something you are working on for the brand?)
A few weeks ago, I was on the way to the theatre via the Southbank, amongst the usual skateboarders, buskers, and general entertainers and I noticed a small group of teenage break dancers. This was around the time that there was plenty of press coverage around break dancing being officially recognized as a sport at SUMMER 2019
the 2024 Olympics. I was struck by their athleticism and fluidity and thought it a great opportunity to dress some dancers and show case what our tailoring can do in an atypical situation. We decided to make a film and shoot them in an urban environment, but replace the usual sweats, hoodies, and jeans with 2-piece suits, shirts, and ties. It was our tongue in cheek way of saying you can do anything in our suits and still look good. It was a fun way of emphasising the technical improvements

a wider audience, we are happy. Hopefully by the time you are reading this it will be online. Not everyone can get across the pond to Saville Row. We are lucky to enough to have been a few times, but how would you describe it the feeling the energy the shops and most importantly the experience walking through Richard James? It is truly a privilege to work on ‘the Row’, and one I have grown to appreciate more over time. There is a unique history and heritage that exudes from the many houses; there is no street like it in the world. It doesn’t hit you in the face but just creeps up on you with usual British restraint. When you enter Richard James, especially for bespoke, you will be aware of that history but more importantly you will be made to feel welcome. Information both to and from a client is the key to a good suit. For the uninitiated we want the experience to be as enjoyable as possible. Having a suit made for you is immersive and relaxing. We have many clients who are working on very tight deadlines but once they enter the store, they will happily spend an hour looking at various tweeds, flannels or worsteds. It is very important to involve the client as much as possible; we want their personality reflected in the final suit, that is truly luxury. There is much to be said about Fashion & Business and how they both need each other. Your background is heavily on the business side of things, right? Where do you think the design and art of fashion have changed you or impacted you most since you joined the brand? When Richard and I started the company in 1992, it was very important that we both understood and appreciated what the other was doing. Particularly at the start when resources were tight neither of us were shy about giving our opinion outside our usual fields. I feel the business grew because of this and it gave both of us confidence and enjoyment in what we were doing. I have always been interested in fashion and design in general, having to commercialize your taste is a challenge and can be very creative. You live and die by your decisions, that helps focus the mind. Talk to us about international business and growth, in countries like the USA, street style culture has taken over, roomier fits, sneakers and casual wear. Aside from a man needing a suit for an interview or a wedding, what would you say to a guy here in America or abroad that is leaning into the casual street style culture but is in his 20's or 30's. What does Richard James offer them? We just opened a store on Park Avenue in NY. It is an incredibly exciting time as we see real potential for RJ in the US. tailoring has taken a back seat to casual wear, but we see that as a challenge. We have always dressed men who did not have to wear tailoring but chose to and that continues to be the case. We know we may have to speak a slightly different language to reach American men and that is what we are trying to figure out. Ultimately a tailored jacket makes men look better and we should not forget that, our challenge is to maintain ‘the look’ but through clever cutting, technical innovation, and emphasis on comfort and utility. The rise of sportswear has meant that men are less scared of experimenting with colour and pattern, this is something we are famous for and you will see reflected in all areas of our collection. We don’t consider ourselves a fashion brand but sometimes we are in fashion.
they are working for. I have always believed that if you respect the people who work with you then that respect will be reciprocated. I have rarely been let down. What can we expect to see from Richard James between now and 2020, we imagine that is already settled? 2020 will see us expand into the US market. We are launching a sportswear line that will mix aspects of Savile Row, good cut, fine fabrics and clever use of color with performance-based innovation. This is something we are very excited about. Otherwise, it is more of the same. Finally, words to live by? “They won’t last five minutes” That’s what one of the tailors on Savile Row said about us to the press when we opened our first store in 1992. And it was very motivating……
Who is your customer? We have always said we make clothes for men with a certain attitude rather than men of any particular age group or demographic. We have customers that have been with us since we opened our first store in 1992 and now their sons are coming in too. We were the first people to make camouflage suits, which we are now well known for, and were recently asked to donate one to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The first camo suit we made was for a customer who loved going to the opera, but hated wearing suits, which he was obliged to do at the opera, so he wanted to make a point. That’s the sort of attitude I mean. If you could dress any one celebrity/talent in the brand right now, who would it be and why? Firstly, I wouldn’t describe Richard James as a brand. Without wanting to sound ostentatious and despite having opened our store on Park Avenue, I like to think we remain a Savile Row House, which is all about the personal touch. Over the years we have been lucky enough to dress and collaborate with many amazing and talented people from all fields. The person I would most like to dress is Mahershala Ali. He has a strong character and carries himself well with an innate elegance. It’s no secret that looking good is about how you wear things as much as what you wear. What is the secret to your success? In leadership, we hear a lot about emotional intelligence. But in most cases you either have it or you don't. What do you think you are the unique abilities that make you such a good team with your business partner. Follow-up: How does Richard James elevate your role? When you are running a business, especially one that has started from nothing, as one of the founders there can be a tendency to micro manage. Now days, I see my role to place the right people in the job and help them flourish. Have confidence in their decisions and understand the values of the company

Bakari Williams is a professional trainer in New York at City Row and Studio Live. He was a Division 1 Soccer athlete in college and is from Danville, Virgina. His clame to fame is the way he manages to mention his love for unicorns in every job interview. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? I work in at home streaming fitness, group fitness and personal training. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? I love training. I grew up wanting to be a professional athlete. So fitness is engrained in my daily life, its what I love to do for fun. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? I have become much more dedicated to warming up, cooling down, and recovery. They are crucial, and are especially important as I get older. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? Definietly the at home fitness movement. I don’t generally workout at home, but I have found it to be a game changer when Im traveling, or when I am really swamped and cant get a full session in at the gym. Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? HIIT is all the craze right now, and yeah if your trying to lose weight/body fat and lean out it is a great way to do so. A lot of guys are obsessed with protein supplements; they probably don’t need as much protein as they are consuming. and id rather get my nutrients from natural foods.
Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? About a year ago I was crushing my workouts, leaning out, and overall in an amazing rhythm physically. I strained my adductor pretty seriously and had to back way off on my work and eventually just flat out rest. I hated it; it delayed my progress but it was a great reminder that in all things and especially when changing our bodies time and patience are crucial. Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? 1. Deadlift Heavy: It works everything 2. He says hisclaim to fame is that he weighed 215Lbs in High School and was an all-star French Horn Player. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? I currently work as a Personal Trainer for private clients in NYC. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? My passion for fitness comes from a lifetime of playing competitive sports. I was always training for something growing up, and once I stopped competing, I found other ways to challenge my body. I’d definitely say that my specialty is trail running. It’s my favorite thing to do, and no matter how hard I’m working, it’s always fun. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? I’ve had to learn when to really push my body and when to take it easy and recover. When I was younger, I was go go go, but now its not uncommon for me to do 30 minutes of mobility work before a workout. I’m always looking for different ways to challenge my body, but injury prevention is a priority for me. Injuries are the death of consistency. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? I wouldn’t necessarily call it a trend, but I’ve been using the Row machine a lot lately and love it as a full body conditioning workout. If I’m doing a lot of trail running, Rowing is a good way to switch it up to prevent any overuse injuries. Also, Kettlebells are the best!
Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? If there’s one thing that men are getting right in the health and wellness industry, it’s Functional Fitness. As the industry has moved away from traditional body building type workouts as the go to, more compound, dynamic and athletic moves have become trendier. Yes, there are a lot of less useful exercises and workouts designed solely to make you look like a bad ass on Instagram, but training in a way that will make everything in your daily lives easier and less strenuous is the way to a healthy, strong body that will keep you happy for years to come. Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? I had a really bad shoulder injury playing football when I was younger. After surgery it was a long road to get back to full strength. Taking a long time off from training to focus on rehabilitation was a great lesson in patience for me. Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? My 3 favorite moves to help you gain strength and lose fat are deadlifts, kettle bell clean and press, and hill sprints! Words to live by? Break a sweat every day and eat REAL food!

the gym is refreshing. Being fit is so much more than having huge biceps! As athletes or (most importantly) simply as human beings, we really need to make sure we stay well rounded. Without a diverse set of skills, we’ll always struggle to thrive! Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? I tore both of my menisci within a two month period while playing college football. Going from competing at the collegiate level to taking 10 minutes to get down a flight of stairs was definitely humbling! That situation taught me the importance of proper exercise technique as well as recovery! Rest is the mostimportant part. Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? If we could only do three exercise to look our very best this summer, I’d suggest Deadlifts, Farmers Carries, and Pull-Ups! Keep that core strength high and burn the most calories by using primarily compound movements (full body)! Words to live by? Make sure your actions are matching your goals! The small details will make or break you.

Dale Moss is a 30 year old fitness model from Wilhelimina in New York. Dale was a wide-reciever in the NFL and also played college baskteball and football. The former NFL athlete's hometown is Brandon, South Dakota and is producing and hosting fitness and lifestyle content. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? I'm a content creator and love creating strong storylines around fitness and community. I’m not in one specific space in the fitness industry and am a firm believer in collaborations and partnering with great people and forming strong communities so my biggest joy has been immersing myself in a lot of the different gyms and facilities throughout New York. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? My passion for fitness definitely stems from my love of competing and also working towards a measurable goal. This is no different than in sports. Also I love the community aspect and have met some of my closest friends through the fitness space. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? Nutrition has been a major focus for me especially since I’ve finished my playing career. In order to have longevity and success in this industry you have to really adopt proper nutrition into your lifestyle. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? I never use to be a runner and the idea of being on a treadmill for almost an hour seemed like one of the worst possible ways to workout but Equinox’s new Precision Run studio has completely changed my perspective on interval based treadmill classes. One of my favorite spots in all of New York.
Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? People now more than ever are really focused on the holistic aspect of fitness which I think is extremely important. There has to be a deeper meaning to why you are training beyond just to get a 6 pack or drop a few pounds. The more you are able to train with a purpose and also be in tune with your body the more efficient you will be overall in sustaining your health goals. Have you ever had to overcome an injury, a challenge or a fitness related goal that seemed impossible what did you learn? Prepping for the NFL after being a college basketball player changed my life and also showed me exactly how much you can accomplish physically and also career wise if you truly put in the time. In 1/2 a year I stepped on the football field in college for the first time since high school and 6 months later I was signed by the Green Bay Packers. physically I was in the best shape I’ve ever been with my Pro day numbers coming in at a 4.38 - 40 yard dash , 42inch vertical and nearly 11 foot broad jump Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? 1. Walk walk walk! This is easy to do in NYC but it’s crazy how the calories add up over a period of time. If the weather is good give yourself some extra time and take a stroll! 2. Treadmill sprints: this in my opinion is how I’ve stayed in shape and had the most success in the shortest amount of time 10 sprints of 30 seconds to finish a workout will change the game. 3. Lastly, but not least find an activity or sport that you enjoy and incorporate it into your week. It’s way easier to stay in shape when you are having fun with friends and doing something you love. Words to live by? Be hungry but humble.

Erick Ivan Wilson is is from Pittsgrove, New Jersey. The 29 year old is a former college football player and wrestler turned trainer in New York. He claims he is most known to be the modern day Steve Irwin, wrestling alligators, snapper turtles and snakes. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? I am currently a Barrys bootcamp fitness instructor. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? My passion for fitness and wellness came from my father and older brother. They taught me how to weight lift at a very young age (9 years old). My father being a nationally renown olympic lifter and bodybuilder trained me to be strong and powerful, my specialty has always been extremely strong, I have freakish strength not only for my size but comparable to anyone, they call me Lil Hercules. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? As I have gotten older the ability to recover has been a longer and more focused process. I've noticed the harder I workout the more I need to focus on rest and recovery. As a young athlete my recovery consisted of stretching, ice baths, and rest. Now the recovery process is a workout in itself! stretch labs, massages, take entire days off of training, listening to my body. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? Since I no longer compete in athletic sports the drive to push myself has become limited in the weight room. Group fitness classes are great because the focus is on pushing yourself and the trust comes within the instructor. Also equipment I have been recently putting myself through a gauntlet with are the assault bike, the rower, and the skier. These three pieces of
equipment will really push your body to exhaustion. Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? Consistency, discipline, and patience. Without these three there is no progress. You need to be mentally driven to progress physically the way you want to. Motivation comes and goes, you need to be driven to see that progress. Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? Coming from a fall football background into a winter wrestling season I was obligated to gain weight for the fall as a running back and lose weight in the winter to become variety wrestler. This was the same circumstance every year in highs cool which was always a very difficult challenge. To not only lose an impractical amount of weight but to do it within a week or so seemed impossible, but I was driven. To lose this weight, on time, and wrestle a difficult opponent on top of it, gave me the discipline, the constant hardworking effort, and the patience to believe ill see results. It was always an extremely difficult time in my life for the years of highshcool but it molded me into the BMF I am today. Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? SNATCHES, DEADLIFTS, BURPEES. All till failure Words to live by? Alex Wach is a 28 year old fitness model and trainer with Wilhelimina models. Originally from Flushing, NY Alex competed in Track and Field in college and is widely known for his Traps. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? Currently I'm in the private training sector. Was a group fitness instructor at Tone House but currently looking for a new gym. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? When I was born, doctors told my mother I'd be very weak due to complications during childbirth. My mother therefore always took extremely good care of me such as making me homemade babyfood. Growing up, I always wanted to prove those doctor's wrong by participating in sports during school and continuing to improve my fitness during my post collegiate years. Trying to inspire dramatic change and unlocking potential in myself and others drives my passion for fitness. My specialty is Functional Athletic Training and Strength Training. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? During your teen years and even you early twenties, recovery and diet can be easily forgotten due to the body being able to quickly adapt and bounce back. However, as one approaches late twenties into their thirties, metabolism slows down and joints experience wear and tear. At his point, it's crucial to warm up pre workout, stretch post workout, and at to eat food that provides necessary nutrients that can promote repair and growth in the body. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? With Summer approaching, running track workouts have been a workout I've been embracing. Running quick 50, 100, and 200
meter sprint intervals really fires up the fast twitch muscles in the legs. In order to promote explosiveness, band and landmine workouts have been great. Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? Men nowadays are choosing multiple workouts to target their specific goals rather than choosing sole activities such as running and weightlifting. Picking and choosing different disciplines of fitness can create not only a strong body but a function, long lasting body. Always take time to step back and assess your ultimate fitness goal, the steps you need to take to get there, and if you're willing to do what it takes to attain that goal. Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? During my senior year of high school, I tore a ligament in my foot. It was terrible time because college admissions were on the horizon and track would definitely help with college tuition. Even after PT and recovery I wasn't able to bounce back quick enough to qualify for the important meets where colleges would be scouting. Even though I was discouraged and was unable to run as often as I use to, I took on weight lifting, where I discovered a new passion in a different aspect of fitness. I learned that even an injury can be a blessing in disguise or a new lesson to learn. Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? Pushups to develop one's arms, shoulders, and chest. Plyo exercises such as squat jumps are a great way to burn calories and stay lean. Bicycle and twists in order to develop those defined abs. Words to live by? Whatever goal you set yourself, you'll only achieve it through hard work, discipline, and confidence.

Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? It comes from what fitness has done for me. I was bullied when I was younger, so it helped me with my confidence. I was skinny and wasn’t happy with my physical appearance, so it helped me build self-esteem. I suffered (and still do) from depression and fitness helped me become a lot more positive. I want to help people that struggle with challenges to become happier and stronger through fitness. I specialize in providing exercise and nutrition coaching services to people. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? I have definitely needed to focus more on recovery as I get older. Our bodies don’t recover as quickly. Nutrition has become a bigger part of my overall performance quality. When you are younger your body just burns everything. Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? Small Group Fitness - There has been and continues to be more growth in the small group fitness service industry. This
Online Training - With the advances in technology and the boom of social media the reach of marketing of fitness programs has become a lot larger and the ability to provide video and app based workouts has become easier. More people are working out on the road and from home.
Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? I am a big fan of kettlebells and Kettlebell Swings are an exercises that hit the whole body especially the glutes and core. They also torch calories. Push Up to Renegade row is another favorite of mine. Gets that back and those pec muscles while working the core. Last is a dumbbell squat curl to press – its working both that lower body and upper body. Gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Words to live by? We have a new quote up in our gym every month. This month it’s “Progress not Perfection” That has really stuck with me being a business owner. You always want things to be perfect, but they will never be. CJ Koegel is fitness model with Wilhelimina models in New York. Originally from Boca Raton, FL the 34 year old fitness expert and personality has been seen on MTV's Fresh Meat challenge and also competed in Football. What part of the fitness industry are you in currently? I am currently inventing fitness products, personal training, and modeling for Wilhelmina. Where does your passion for fitness and wellness come from and do you have a specialty? Coming from a sport background fitness was always something I did to get better at the sport I was playing. As I am getting older, fitness has transitioned into something I do to make sure I can walk when I’m 90, haha. How have you had to adapt as an athlete since you first started to compete in sport and fitness? You know the saying “If I knew then what I know now”... When I was younger I would just get after it and not pay much attention to recovery or mobility. Now, I focus on mobility and recovery just as much or more than my actual workouts.
Now we all champion each other’s success and genuinely support each other. Have you ever had to overcome an injury or a fitness related challenge that seemed impossible? What did you learn? 14 miles deep into the Great Wall of China marathon I went into Hyponatremia, which is over hydration. I was at risk for heart failure, kidney failure, puking everywhere, and all my muscles were cramping. My friend has passed away from Cancer earlier that year and the one thing she always would say was “never give up”. The think I learned from this marathon was that your body can be breaking down, but your mind is what pushes you through! Outside of diet, what 3 exercises or movements would you tell our reader to do to look their best in their swimsuit? Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. Words to live by? Be kind to one another.
Are there any major fitness trends or workouts you have embraced recently that you want to share with us? Being the inventor of a fitness product, I want to live by the practice what you preach lifestyle. That said, I have integrated my product OTTO into most of my workouts to show people that it really works. Aside from diet and sleep, what are men getting right in the health and wellness industry and what can be better? I can’t attest to this in other cities, but in NYC the fitness community is a very positive place. Let’s take Rhone for example. Rhone is a men’s clothing brand that has brought most of the fitness community together so we can get to know each other.
