Destination: Summer

So many incredible places to go. So many memories to create.

Los Cabos, Mexico With its beautiful rock formations, white sand beaches and perpetual sun, Los Cabos is great for a summer getaway. A quick two-hour flight from LA and you are in Paradise. Stay: Hilton, Los Cabos. A stunning completely redone beachfront resort with an amazing spa and incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. Eat: Flora Farms. The most delicious food I have had in the region. Farm to table organic local cuisine. Do: Take to the sea to view the El Arco, the regions most famous landmark. I love playing tennis all day then jumping in the ocean.

122 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

Positano, Italy Positano is a place whose mere mention gets people crazy with excitement. It is a photographers dream; especially the pastel painted houses perched on the mountainside. Little streets filled with local shops and great café’s are distinctly Positano. It is the jewel of the Amalfi coast. Stay: Le Serinuse Eat: La Sponda restaurant at Le Sirenuse. A magical experience dining under candle and immersed in live lemon trees. Do: Explore the ancient city of Positano, take a boat ride the Grottos or people watch in one of the many outdoor café’s.

123

Napa, California Sometimes I wonder why people fly all the way to the Europe to experience the wine country. Napa Valley has everything; the best chef’s, finest hotels, incredible wine and epic views. It ranks up there as one of the best destinations in the world. Stay: Carneros Resort. I can’t say enough good things about this property. The cottages are incredible, the views of the vineyards are unsurpassed and the adult pool is pretty much epic. Eat: Farm at the Carneros. The food, presentation and ambiance make this place my number one choice for dinner. Its one of those places you want to go back to. Do: Ride bikes thru the vineyard and stop under a shady tree for a picnic. Lie back on your blanket, close your eyes and take a deep breathe. This is living.

124 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

Maui, Hawaii Maui is one of those places where time stands still. There is no rush, everyone seems to be focused on enjoying life. Incredible beaches, scenery to die for and so many amazing things to do, Its my favorite of the Hawaiian Islands. Stay: Grand Wailea. With its mind blowing ocean views, great food and action packed water park, the Grand Wailea is Maui’s best overall destination. You simply never have to leave the resort. Eat: Monkeypod Kitchen. The food was epic. Farm to table local Hawaiian cuisine. Do: There is so much to do in Maui. If you want to escape the beach, head up country to explore green rolling hills and misty mountains. It’s like an island within an island. Two different worlds. Another great day trip is to hop on the ferryboat to the island of Lanai.

125

San Diego, California San Diego is quintessential California at it’s best. Miles of white sand beach, quaint little towns and the carefree lifestyle people flock to you enjoy life. Stay: Hotel Del Coronado. I love the history of this hotel. It reminds me of a grand old mansion. It’s so elegant but has a relaxed beach feel. The new Beach village cottages are incredible! Eat: 1500 Ocean is the best place to dine for it’s incredible ocean views and amazing food. For something on the hipper side, check out Parq restaurant for farm to table eats in a funky industrial chic environment. Do: Hit the San Diego Zoo for the day. It has great new attractions, is super fun and always a great experience. Also check out the Nikita Kahn White Rhino preserve. If you are adventurous take a trip over the border to Loreto, Mexico and check out the beaches and historic town.

126 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

Santorini, Greece If you see one place before you die it must be Santorini. Words cannot explain it and photos do it no justice. It is a place like no other. Stay: Homeric Poems Hotel. Everything about this property is spot on. The white washed interior, the staggering views and service was impeccable. Eat: Chef Dimitris Skarmoutsos creates the most insane food for the restaurant at Homeric Poems. The presentation, food and ambiance all get an A plus. Do: Visit the archaeological site of Akrotiri and the many musuems of the island to learn about the amazing Greek culture. Visit the many unique villages at the Caldera.

127

Beverly Hills, California With it’s beautiful green mountains, insane mansions and the best shopping in the world. Beverly Hills is where you want to be. Stay: Montage Beverly Hills. Montage is the best of everything, period. The location is unbeatable, you can walk to Rodeo drive. Spa Montage is like a dream come true. Now I understand why they say, “Montage or nothing”. Eat: Walk across the street from Montage to eat at Mastro’s, that’s if you can get a reservation. The food is 5 star. It’s always packed for a reason. It’s simply the best food in town. Do: Take a tour to see some of the original Beverly Hills mansions. There are not many left and they are disappearing fast. Of course you have to walk the world famous Rodeo drive.

128 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

Florence, Italy It’s basically an art history textbook coming to life. A stunning medieval city located in the Tuscan region. It’s my favorite place to visit in Italy. Stay: The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is basically the only place to stay. Palazzo della Gherardesca was the private residence of Florentine nobles for 5 centuries before becoming the Four Seasons in 2008. It’s en epic visual journey thru Florentine history. Eat: Il Palagio at the Four Seasons. Michelin star awarded fine dining at its best. The tasting menu is the way to go. The chef prepares traditional dishes from neighboring towns and villages. Do: Start off with a walking tour of Florence. Explore the many museums and archeological sites throughout the city. Take a bus thru the rolling Tuscan hills and stop at the local villages.

129

London, England The mere mention of London gets peoples juices flowing. From tennis at Wimbledon to a picnic at Hyde Park, London is at the top of the list for a chic summer vacation. Stay: Overlooking Hyde park and in the best neighborhood, The Mandarin Oriental is the place to stay. Everything about this property says class. Not only is the staff dedicated to perfection, they make sure you feel completely at home every visit. The property is going thru a major renovation, which will make it even more incredible. Eat: There is such an incredible mix of cultures in the city that you can enjoy so many different kinds of foods. Jinjuu Soho is amazing gourmet Korean street food, Barrafina is amazing Spanish tapas and Bob Bob Ricard is Russian with a splash of traditional British food. Do: There are so many fun things to do it in London. I would first hit the main attractions; The Tower of London, Kensington Palace and take a river boat tour along the River Thames. If you are ambitious, schedule an early morning train to Brighton Beach (where I went to school) to see the Royal Pavilion. It is epic!

130 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

West Hollywood, California The current hot spot for the LA traveler is Weho. With its fashionable stores, celebrities galore and the hippest restaurants and clubs, its no wonder why everyone is flocking to this sunny city. It’s close to the beach, less stuffy than Beverly Hills and most importantly welcomes all types of people. Stay: With its central location, walking distance to the famous Sunset strip and Santa Monica Blvd, The London West Hollywood is the place to stay. The rooftop pool is insane and the place to be seen. It’s all of the beautiful people in one place. Don’t forget to check out the new rooftop deck at dusk for drinks and tapas. It’s LA’s new hot spot. Eat: This list can get long because there are so many trendy places to eat. The restaurants of the moment are: Catch, Cecconi’s and Soho house (if you are a member). But there is also Madeo for Italian, and my favorite is Pizzeria il Fico. You will not go hungry in this town. Do: Play tennis at one the amazing public courts of course! Get your hiking shoes and some bottled water and head to Runyon Canyon for a hike to the top of the mountains to look over the city. Check out Melrose high street and Melrose place; two new shopping districts with coffee shop, trendy stores and lots of people watching.

Killer sound system (SONOS). The sound system is a key element to a sexy home. You need a good system with great speakers.

Black out curtains. I need complete darkness to sleep (as do most) and I find blackout curtains are the best way to block all of the light out. They work better than shades.

Toto Toilet. I got spoiled by Toto Toilets in Japan and now must have them in my homes. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Just try it. 178 MAN OF METROPOLIS : SUMMER 2017

Bench by the closet. You’ve got to have a place to put your shoes on.

5

Great lighting you can control from your phone (Hue). This is another important element for a sexy home. You can set the mood with the push of a button.

6

Royal Pedic Mattress. I’ve slept in many beds and I find I sleep best with Royal Pedic.

7

Society Limonta Bedding. It’s soft, earthy, natural and sexy. 179

8

Restoration Hardware Towels. Restoration Hardware towels are soft with good absorption, look good, and are priced well enough that you can replace them regularly.

9

Vitamix juicer. I have a crazy busy life and sometimes I just need an easy way to get my fruits and veggies in. VItamixes are reliable and easy to clean.

10

Bar cart (1st Dibs). I have a crazy busy life and sometimes ISo much design work and attention to detail goes into liquor bottles and barware. A beautiful bar cart is a great way to display it all.
