Jenu’ Goodu Ayurvedic Research Center & Vetenary Unit “The tribe has a vested interest in making sure the resources are protected for future generations. It’s not part of tribal culture to decimate a resource”_ John Halliday Too often,Indian tribes are at the mercy of the shifting political winds of the state government. This project focuses on empowering them and uses vernacular essence of regions in between Nagarhole and R.Kabini. Local materials and site specific design approaches were followed. The Jenu Kurubas of the nagarhole forest are the main tribe who have been relocated heavily by the government outside the forest. Program has been developed in order to facilitate the economy and health of these honey collector clans. Several resorts along the banks of the great Kabini, attract tourists. Rejuvenation and healing using honey’s numerous ayurvedic benefits, and researching further on its use in animal recovery are loci the project revolves around.

IS STORYTELLING IMPORTANT IN ARCHITECTURE?

IS STORYTELLING IMPORTANT IN ARCHITECTURE?

Architecture is an ever-present form of visual storytelling. The built Architecture is an visual storytelling. The story seems very simple, magic, I wonder what it would become if architecture and storytelling but I feel it is a very powerful tool. If casual storytelling can have this got together? magic, I wonder what it would become if architecture and storytelling got together? Throughout time, people have told stories. These things cheaply

stories have a single layer style. Only one layer that tells nothing of the culture, the history, or pride in a place, but is focused on the publicity,

Architects for a long time communicated their craft through their plane building imagery and photos. But the true translation of the structure is often lost. However, the exploration of the narrative is something that I find interesting as an architect student. Including a story in a building develops a level of connection and sensation for the user that is engaging with the built. The ability for people to learn something beyond the obvious, to sense more than see, to feel the intangibility of the importance and the culture of the place rushing within them, makes them remain rather than passing by. The storytelling of the architecture shows the client’s and the architect’s mission and passion, The building’s programs, its functions, its site context, and mainly its place in history. The message edited into a simple theme and then expanded into an absolute story that creates a complete experience. When the story is being narrated -the Materiality, structure, form & details become essential to impart the message in its true essence. There Buildings will age over time and get dated.it is this story of aging and its culture that is embedded that keeps them truly alive. While narrative architecture could be both tangible & intangible. Some buildings tell us stories of beliefs, evolution, achievements, technology, and developments that have taken place over centuries. Many parallels can be drawn from a story and can be recreated literally through a built form. In design, a built form can be derived and established from a timeline of stories and using key incidents from it. One example is the Jewish Museum in Berlin, designed by Daniel Libeskind. The storyline and the gist of the horrifying tale of the holocaust is translated into an abstract component that became a crucial part of the design process for it.

In order for the storytelling to connect to architecture, a multiple-layered story phase must be developed. Stories of the people who inhabit or have lived in a place, the cultural history & evolution of use, building materials, and technology. In the end, whether a building nest in the background or asserts itself in a bold manner, it is the story that engulfs which continue to intrigue long after the newness and buzz fade over time. Storytelling connects buildings to the places & context they belong to. It might take a few moments for the observer to discover the story within and experience the architecture to its utmost potential.

Journalism Studio: VII

Is storytelling in architecture still relevant & important during this time of economic challenge? I certainly think so. As new building opportunities give way to more reuse and renovation, and the architecture has problem-solving criteria embedded. The stories should be told within an existing context. This context perhaps starts with a prior story and then is enhanced with the new, or the former dialogue is fully transformed, offering a new perspective or narrative about its new user. So, the architecture story is important in all contexts and times to be expressed. This reflects in the architecture designing itself. Let’s say we are starting the design of a new pavilion with a green space in front of a new hospital. In this project, we will build an understanding to tell a wellness and healing story within an artistic architectural envelope. It’s the story, I hope, that will trigger the narrative of the complete hospital complex into a welcoming moment for its new community.
