the emerald For some people, the emerald is the most beautiful of the precious stones. It’s a question of taste, and of colors and this started long, long ago. The emerald is always very sought after. In jewelry, it is part of the family of precious stones. But, from a mineralogical point of view, what is an emerald? The emerald is a variety of bÊryl, which is a mineral which contains both silicon and oxygen, in addition to aluminum and beryllium. What is the source of this green color which is so particular to the emerald? The emerald must contain, in addition, small quantities of chromium and/or vanadium in order to be qualified as an emerald. In nature, during crystallization, the frameworks of aluminium and silicon gather in threes in order to form hexagonal atomic groupings the most often... prism-shaped, or, more rarely, pyramid-shaped.

The emerald has been the object of desire and admiration in the history of mankind.

ATTENTION TO DETAILS Hand-finishing of any kind calls for hard-won knowledge of centuries-old techniques – as well as great dexterity, since it’s often carried out on minuscule surfaces you’d struggle to see with the naked eye. Hand-finishing expertise is also part and parcel of the stunning range of rare handcrafts produced by The Emerald, where this artistry is employed to craft exquisite gems, carve rough stones or improvements in previously carved emeralds as well highly complex jewelry.
