Experimentation and innovation are defining features of Manos’ practice. While most ceramicists would have a set vision of what the end result of their work should be, Manos thrives on exploring the unknown; what happens when materials are combined that really shouldn’t be mixed? How can over firing be used as a creative intervention for tableware design? Which colours hides beneath a fired clay surface? These are all examples of his diverse explorations into the ceramic medium. This process could appear to be governed largely by serendipity, but in order to reach the quality in results that Manos achieves, careful decisions need to be made on which aspect to develop,and which to reject. Though this process of exploration, combined with on-going creative decisions, elements of real beauty emerge in his unexpected and truly original creations. Tavs Jorgensen May 2016
Manos is driven by a force to create, innovate and experiment. He sees his work pushing and challenging the perceived boundaries of creative processes, techniques and materials. Manos always tries to use unconventional materials and tools and utilise them in an unexpected way, stretching their potential. Material is at the centre of his practice.
