Welcome As a visitor to our lovely theatre, you will hopefully feel welcome and comfortable in its cosy surroundings. We also hope that you, like many of our customers, find a number of shows during the year appealing and book tickets to see many of them when the brochure hits your doormat. We pride ourselves in getting to know many of our customers by name. One customer has exceeded all expectations and this was recognised when Mr Thompson was presented with an engraved glass beer tankard for being the ‘Most Loyal Customer for 2014’. Mr Thompson attended 37 performances in the financial year, an astonishing achievement! He loves our theatre, the shows and our staff. Many thanks Mr Thompson for such wonderful support! We have a jam-packed season ahead to entertain you. As always the variety is there to tickle the fancy of a very broad range of tastes. We endeavour to introduce companies and artists to Mansfield. For example, this season we are proud to include Miss Nightingale – The Musical, Anita Harris, Psychic Sally Morgan, and Flossie Malavialle with her group performing the music and songs of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel. Then, all the way from Northern

Ireland, we welcome the Big Telly Theatre Company with their production of Gulliver aimed at families with children aged eight years and older. We welcome two companies presenting works of Jane Austen: Dyad Productions bring us Austen’s Women in September and Hotbuckle Productions stage Emma in November. Book for both and save money on the tickets. Then we also have companies that we are familiar with such as London Classic Theatre with their production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, which is seldom seen on the touring circuit.

There are some big name shows that we are delighted to welcome back because of their ever-so-successful previous visits. We would include in this list The Drifters, Talon, Circus of Horrors, Mercury and many more. As always, we have some great local talent on the stage as well as many other professional shows not mentioned here. I hope you enjoy our programme. Hopefully you will find much to come and see with your family and friends. Happy theatregoing! Andrew Tucker Cultural Services Manager

DAVE SPIKEY PUNCHLINES Friday 25 September
Saturday 26 September
Be blown away by hits from the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, the Big Bopper and Eddie Cochran. Backed by the superb Paradise Band, this show has audiences dancing in the aisles, singing along with the music and yelling for more. Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise has something for everyone in this feel-good celebration of the magic of rock ‘n’ roll, with over 40 songs packed into this critically acclaimed show.
Dave Spikey believes it is part of our national character that many everyday conversations end in laughter and this brand new show is guaranteed to have you laughing out loud! Punchlines derive their humour from being unexpected – ‘punch’ indicating that the ‘line’ should always come as a surprise or shock. The major school of thought suggests that few punchlines are funny out of context. There is another school of thought (Dave’s school of thought) that the opposite can be true and in this new show he will present evidence to support this. Time: 7.30pm

Thursday 19 November The show that stormed into the finals of Britain’s Got Talent and was a West End smash is back to mark its 21st Anniversary in spectacular style. Welcome to the Carnevil is set in Victorian London in 1899 when Jack the Ripper was still at large and during the age of the Freak Show. A young girl dreamed of running away to join the Circus only to see her dream become a nightmare in a decrepit and corpse ridden Carnevil. She is plagued by a swamp of Killer Klowns, sword swallowers, demon dwarfs and death defying aerialists. The show also includes a Guinness World Record holding hairculian diva swinging solely from her hair, back-flipping, fire-limboing acrobats and lots more.

Tuesday 6 October Ahead of London Classic Theatre’s production of Waiting For Godot (see pg13), Christopher Neil explores through this practical workshop the main aspects of Theatre of the Absurd. Using examples from Beckett to Ionesco and how they influenced British playwrights such as Pinter and Stoppard, the participants will explore how the Absurd works. With no logical plot or conventional characterisation, how did the playwrights use certain techniques to engage the audience in their portrayal of the human condition? Early Beckett clearly drew on the music hall, the circus and the commedia dell’ arte, with such techniques as mime used to convey everyday life. But what other techniques were employed? Time: 7.00pm-9.00pm Tickets: £5.00 or Free on purchase of a ticket for Waiting For Godot Venue: Palace Theatre, Main Stage
