Something else that is new and exciting, is the opportunity to support your local theatre by buying a ‘brick’ in the foyer and becoming a ‘Supporter’. The ‘bricks’ are available for £100 each and these will be on display for ten years. Celebrate your connection with the Theatre or have a loved one’s name engraved as a gift. The income generated by this scheme will be used to upgrade or replace vital aspects of the Theatre. This could, for example, be technical equipment or seating. Whatever it is, you as the theatregoer will benefit from the improvements. Please do contact me if you would like to know more or to purchase your ‘brick’. As always, we provide a platform for the excellent local talent that make use of our facilities. Please do enjoy reading what they and we have to offer. Most importantly, please tell your family and friends about what’s on. Let’s make 2016 a record-breaking year for the Mansfield Palace Theatre! Happy theatregoing! HALFWAY TO PARADISE – THE BILLY FURY STORY

MUCH ADO IN HIPPOLYTA HEIGHTS

Friday 5 February

Saturday 6 February

Wednesday 10 - Thursday 11 February

Following sell-out success with Ugly Duckling, Three Little Pigs and Elves & the Shoemaker, Northern Ballet bring their magic to Tortoise & the Hare. Once upon a time there was a speedy Hare who never stopped talking about how fast he could run. Tired of being teased for his slowness, Tortoise challenged him to a race. No one thought he could win, but life is full of surprises! This is the perfect opportunity for your little ones to be introduced to and enjoy live ballet, music and theatre.

Billy Fury was Britain’s own Elvis - the girls went wild for him! Billy’s own band, the original Fury’s Tornados re-play his 29 timeless hits live at Mansfield Palace Theatre. Songs include Last Night was Made for Love, Wondrous Place, I Will, Jealousy, Halfway To Paradise and more. Billy is shown on a giant movie screen which makes the atmosphere both electric and emotional. ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll heaven - a great 60s night out!’ The Stage

Mansfield Palace Senior Youth Theatre presents this newly commissioned play by Andy Dobb. Two camera crews move into Hippolyta Heights Estate to make a Reality Show to capture the highest murder, teen pregnancy and unemployment rate, plus any juicy gossip from the locals. What they find is very different! Will Stratford Avon persuade his true love to fall in love with him? And will three girls with a grudge be made into witches by the Producer and cast spells live on telly? 2016 is the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, and characters, storylines and themes from his plays inspire this amusing, lighthearted but poignant play with the contemporary characters caught up in the modern world.

Written by Richard Harris

Wednesday 9 – Saturday 12 March Wednesday 2 – Sunday 6 March Following successful productions of Calamity Jane and Oliver at Mansfield Palace Theatre, 2016 sees the 102nd production by Mansfield Operatic Society. The story of Anything Goes concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and sidekick Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. This musical introduced such songs as Anything Goes, You’re the Top, and I Get a Kick Out of You. Music and lyrics by Cole Porter. Original book by P.G. Wodehouse and Guy Bolton. New book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman and Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Originally produced by Lincoln Centre Theatre, New York.

Masque Productions is proud to present Stepping Out, a wonderfully endearing tale of how determination, friendship and camaraderie can shape even the most bashful into proud performers. Mavis, a professional dancer who didn’t quite make it past the chorus line, now runs her own class in the local village hall. A mixed and otherwise incompatible group of seven women and one man meet weekly for their tap-dancing class,

each struggling to conquer either their inhibitions, dance technique, or both. Then the day comes when Mavis breaks the news to the group that they have been invited to perform in front of an audience for a charity concert. With only a few weeks to learn an impressive tap routine, will they do it in time? Can they make it? Or will they all, literally, fall flat on their faces?

This amateur production of Stepping Out is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Ltd

Monday 14 – Tuesday 15 March The story tells of charming, roguish carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, and mill worker Julie Jordan, both loners, who meet and fall in love. Their marriage ends up costing both their jobs, and things go downhill from there. When Billy falls in with con-man Jigger Craigin, he ends up getting caught in the midst of an armed robbery and takes his own life. Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day fifteen years later, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. Louise is a lonely, friendless teenager, her father’s reputation having haunted her throughout her young life.

How Billy instils in both the child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to love’s transcendence. Voted the best musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine, Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Carousel is the classic American musical, spanning heaven and earth in its exploration of human frailty, resilience, and the power of forgiveness. Songs include the iconic You’ll Never Walk Alone. The New Youth Theatre concept is simple. Children between the ages of 3-17 are taught how to develop and improve their performing arts skills whilst rehearsing for a fully staged musical each term. SWANSEA CITY OPERA PRESENTS PUCCINI’S

LA BOHEME Sunday 20 March

It’s Christmas Eve in Paris. A young poet, an artist and a philosopher are celebrating in their flat. Then comes a knock at the door, a lost key and an accidental touch of cold hands in the dark, and so begins one of the greatest romances of all opera. Sung in English and accompanied by a chamber orchestra.
