Mansfield Parks & Recreation
Summer 2021 Update Summer fun is finally here! The world still looks a lot different, but we’ve got a lot of great progress towards the Mansfield fun in the sun you know and love. We are Mansfield and we are in this together! Keep reading for important news & updates.
Happy Birthday MAC! We’re celebrating 20 years of the Mansfield Activities Center and you’re invited to the party! Join us Thursday, April 22 for a special birthday party with free games, activities and giveaways as well as our Summer Discount Day. As an extra bonus, we’re giving everyone 20% off all program fees...our BIGGEST Discount Day ever! Watch our website and social media for more details and save the date to join us!
Summer Events At the time of printing, no plans have been made for any major city events, including Rockin 4th of July. Staff is continuing to work with public safety and health officials to make the best decision possible for the health and safety of the entire community, including our staff and first responders who are needed to work these events, and will announce updates as soon as they are available on our website and social media pages. We do have a number of smaller events, camps and programs throughout the summer as listed in the following pages, and plan on adding surprise pop up activities as often as possible; be sure to follow us @mansfieldtxparks so you don’t miss the fun!
Park Development News The 2020 Parks Master Plan was adopted in October and we are already hard at work on many of the projects and initiatives outlined in the plan, which was driven by feedback from residents like you who want to see us continue to grow and improve! Here’s what you can look forward to over the next few months: Walnut Creek Linear Trail Expansion Construction began in February on WCLT Phase 3A, which will extend the existing trail for an additional mile from McKnight Park East around and through the Shops at Broad development, connecting with existing sidewalks at Cannon and Carlin Roads. The project is scheduled to be completed by late summer. McClendon Park Improvements Home the oldest playground equipment in the city, McClendon Park East (740 W. Kimball St.) is getting some long overdue upgrades! Currently in the design phases, staff is working on new and upgraded amenities, overall park layout changes and a nature trail connection to McClendon Park West. Construction timelines will be set as soon as design work is complete; check our website and social media for updates as they are available.
Boards and Commissions
Skinner Sports Complex Parking Lot Updates
Would you like to serve your community? Applications are currently being accepted for all city boards and commissions, including Planning and Zoning, Library, Animal Services and, of course, Parks and Recreation! Visit mansfieldtexas.gov and select How Do I, then Apply for Boards & Commissions for the application. For more information, contact susana.marin@ mansfieldtexas.gov.
Improvements began early 2021 to the Skinner Sports Complex parking lot and driveway to hopefully get you in and out of games faster and easier. The work includes updates and realignments to the entryway, new parking lots and a wider park roadway. The project is being done in partnership with Tarrant County at a significant cost savings to the City.
COVID-19 UPDATE Most of our programs and classes have returned, but with reduced capacity and limited shared surfaces to help prevent the spread of the virus. Masks are not required to enter the Mansfield Activities Center but are still strongly encouraged. Staff and instructors will continue to wear masks any time they cannot socially distance from the public, and masks may be required in programs where a safe social distance is not possible. For questions about a specific program or the MAC policies, please contact staff at (817) 728-3680. 3 summer 2021
