with a showing of American Graffiti, the American classic Lucas wrote based upon his actual high school experiences in Modesto. Events continue nightly Monday thru Thursday evenings with Parkn-Shines around town presented by the Mid-Valley Chevy Club. Those events are open to all car lovers who shine ‘em and show ‘em. On Thursday August 19th after the Park-n-Shine in downtown there will be an installation of new stars in Modesto’s Graffiti Walk of Fame.

A favorite of families, young and old from near and far, is the American Graffiti Festival and Car Show on Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22. With almost 1,000 cars on display, music, beer gardens, and food (from corn dogs to cotton candy!) show attendees will be able to meet with car owners, take their pictures with cars and grab some memorabilia as well. The show grounds will be at the Modesto Muni Golf Course next to John Thurman Field home of the Modesto Nuts.

Several organizations and the new Graffiti USA Museum will be announcing events in the coming weeks. There are concerts planned at The Fruit Yard, more car culture shows at The State Theatre, a come-back tour of Modesto’s famous MoBand in Graceada Park and some special Cars & Coffee events that will all be added to the calendar at GraffitiSummerClassic.com. The majority of programs during Graffiti Summer support local children’s’ charities and non-profits of underserved communities.

A new plan for this year is to add a second weekend that recognizes the cars of the last 25 years and often heralded in the movie franchise Fast & Furious. Plans for that program are in development and interested parties should contact cars@ visitmodesto.com for more information.
