Spooky Slime!
MELS Garage is getting seasonal! For their October event, the MELS team put together a “Spooky Slime” kit for students and families to create their own holiday fun at home, with special inclusion of English Language Development classes and students’ part of the transitional student success program.
Families that registered for October’s STEM activity picked up their materials at one of the many MELS Garage drive-thru locations and together, made “spooky” slime just in time for Halloween. Families submitted photos of their at-home fun and slimy creations!

These ELD students took part in the STEM night activity at no cost to the students or their family members.

How to Make Your Own Slime! STEP 1: Mix 1/2 cup of washable school glue and 1/2 cup water in a bowl. STEP 2: Mix in 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. NOTE: We have been experimenting with this amount! Baking soda is a thickener. For an even oozier slime try 1/4 teaspoon and for a thicker/putty like slime add 1 teaspoon to see what happens. Makes a fun science experiment!! STEP 3: Mix in food coloring and glitter (you determine the amount). STEP 4: Mix in 1 tablespoon of saline solution. STEP 5: Whip up the mixture until you can no longer stir it and it has formed a slimy blob. STEP 6: Knead until smooth and stickiness has disappeared. TIP: Add a few drops of saline solution to your hands before picking up slime and kneading.
