Meet MUSD’s School Resource Officers!

“I love being a mentor to students and providing them with a safe place to learn.” campus safety. As sworn law enforcement officers, SROs can make arrests, respond to emergencies, and cite incidents. What makes them different from a typical police officer, however, is that SROs also educate and counsel students in a collaborative effort with MUSD staff.

“I make it a point to try and be someone that the kids feel comfortable talking to about their problems at home and at school,” shared Officer Ryan Smith.

Like any teacher or administrator, SROs are very involved in their campus community. Officers are there to support students in all facets, they attend athletic games, participate in school rallies and serve as mentors.

“I enjoy when students learn that I am not here as a repercussion, but as someone who lends an ear and a resource to help,” shared Officer Edgar Montanez.
