Exceeding your expectations GREAT HOTELS IN GREAT LOCATIONS Leisureplex Hotels
Welcome to Alfa 2010 saw us acquire two more hotels: the Seabank Hotel in Porthcawl and the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Bognor Regis. Both are landmark buildings which help to define the resorts in which they are situated. In many ways they symbolise what Alfa is all about: spacious comfortable hotels of great character in outstanding seaside locations, well appointed rooms, generous public areas, good food and above all, a warm welcome. There is nothing quite like a seaside break to lift the spirit and recharge the batteries. But it is not just about the seaside: if you are looking for beautiful scenery or cultural interest, both Porthcawl and Bognor Regis have plenty to offer with nearby National Parks, stately homes and lots of other attractions.
Most of our holidays are to our own group of 19 Leisureplex Hotels. All are character buildings with their own unique appeal but you will know immediately you are in one of our hotels by the consistently high standards of bedrooms and bathrooms, the excellent menus and above all the warmth of welcome from our friendly professional staff.
Plenty of Entertainment All of our Leisureplex Hotels offer entertainment at least four evenings each week (usually five evenings) at no extra charge to our guests. Most other UK hotels offer entertainment on several evenings (see hotel descriptions for details).
Dining in Leisureplex Hotels Good food is one of the most important considerations in an hotel and a great deal of thought goes into the design of our menus. We provide a full British Breakfast. Light two course lunches are included on some spring and autumn holidays and sandwiches and packed lunches can also be provided at a modest additional cost. In the evening, relax with our substantial four course menus with plenty of choice and a selection of wines available. Typical dinner menu (right):
Dinner Starters Chilled Orange Juice or Apple Juice Prawn Cocktail Creamy Mushrooms on a garlic crouton Vegetable Soup *** Main Course Traditional Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Horseradish Gravy Oven Baked Fillet of Lemon Sole with a light dill sauce Freshly Prepared Seasonal Salad with Potatoes of the Day with or without Dressing and a Choice of Roast Ham, Cheese or Tuna Chef’s Special of the Day Vegetarian Option Served with: Roast Potatoes Buttered Seasonal cabbage Diced Swede *** Puddings Seasonal Fruit Crumble with Custard, Ice Cream or Fresh Cream Lemon Meringue Pie British & Continental Cheeses with Accompaniments Ice Cream selection Fruit Salad *** Tea or Coffee
If you have never experienced a coach holiday before, you’re in for a treat. There is nothing which combines interest and relaxation quite as successfully as a coach holiday. Sit back as our experienced drivers ensure your safety and whisk you away to some of the best holidays you will ever experience. And you don’t have to worry about harming the environment. Not only are coaches the safest form of transport but they are also one of the greenest! On behalf of the entire Alfa team I’d like to say a big thank you to our loyal guests who return to us year after year. And if you’ve never travelled with Alfa before, we look forward to welcoming you on what we know will be a memorable holiday. Please be assured that once you have experienced Alfa, you’ll never want to travel with anyone else. Paul Sawbridge Managing Director
BOOKING IS EASY! There are three simple ways to book one of our holidays:
1. Call our Reservations Centre Simply telephone our local call rate number 08451 305666 and one of our friendly, fully trained reservations staff will give you details of all available holidays. Our offices are open: Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.30pm Saturday 9.00am-5.00pm Sunday 10.00am-4.00pm If you wish to confirm the booking, complete the booking form and forward it to us with your cheque for the deposit within three days.
2. Approved Travel Agents Alfa Travel Euxton Lane, Chorley, PR7 6AF Tel: (08451) 305666 Fax: (08451) 303777 email: req@alfatravel.co.uk
Many clients benefit from the assistance given by their local travel agent and our holidays can be booked at most of the better travel agents. To book through an agent, please go to the agent who supplied your brochure.
3. Internet Booking If you have access to the Internet, the easiest way to book our holidays is via our web site. All of the information in this brochure - and a great deal more besides - is also available there. You can also find late breaking offers, some of which are only available if you book on the internet. Why not take a look? Our web site is totally secure and fully bookable using your credit or debit card with instant print outs available showing your full holiday details. You can also use it to order a brochure or send us an e-mail. The address is www.alfatravel.co.uk For all three booking methods we issue a postal confirmation showing your seats, rooms, picking up point and time within seven days of receipt of your booking form.

with quality, value for money coach holidays! EXCELLENT SERVICE
SUPERB VALUE
Personal, Friendly Service
More for your Money
If you have travelled with us before, you will already know how good our service really is – we try that little bit harder and pride ourselves on the high standards provided by both our administrative staff and by the coach drivers who are so important to your holiday enjoyment. From the moment you make your first enquiry to the day you return we will offer you the very best service.
Because of our low advertising, administrative and sales costs, our holidays are generally significantly cheaper than those of our competitors. They also usually include a more extensive range of excursions as part of the holiday price. Most 5 and 7 day holidays in the autumn and spring also include lunches on free days in your resort – just think what a saving this can represent!
Great Drivers We are proud of our coach drivers, most of whom have worked with us for many years. They are all carefully vetted both for their driving ability and their attention to our customers’ needs. In addition they undergo regular inservice training to keep them at the very top of their profession.
Reliable Coach Operators Most of our holidays are operated by our own fleet of modern luxury coaches, over 50% of which have on board washroom and all of which are air conditioned. We supplement these with vehicles provided by a select group of our most reliable industry partners. We are members of the Confederation of Passenger Transport, the Coach Tourism Council and Coach Marque – bodies established to encourage standards of excellence in our industry.
Child Reductions Why not take your children or grandchildren with you? The following reductions apply on UK holidays to children sharing a room with at least one adult: No. of Days: 3 4 5 7 8 Child aged 0-2 £30 £45 £60 £90 £105 Child aged 3-11 £20 £30 £40 £60 £70 (Child reductions also apply to Self Drive holidays but not Continental Tours.)
Prices You Can Rely On Our policy is one of “everyday low prices”. Occasionally we may offer a discount on some departures, but we guarantee:
TRAVEL OPTIONS Local Pick Up Points The majority of our holidays use our famous “feeder” system which provides a huge range of pick up points from towns throughout the North East, so there is normally a joining point within a few miles of your home (see page 4).
Direct Join Holidays Our Direct Join option provides an even more convenient way to join some of our shorter holidays. See page 12 for details.
Self Drive Though there is nothing quite as relaxing as travelling by coach, sometimes the dates do not fit your schedule or you just fancy taking the car for a change. Our Self Drive programme provides packages of 3, 4 or 7 night holidays at our Leisureplex Hotels. Full details can be found on page 13.
Our pricing is simple and straightforward with no hidden extras. We will not levy any fuel or currency surcharges after you have booked your holiday. Discounts are only available on the internet Discounts are very selective and are limited to a maximum of 10% of the holiday value (so there is no risk of finding you are sitting next to somebody who has paid much less than you have). Prices in this brochure were originally published before the increase in VAT to 20% for 2011 departures. However, we guarantee to pay the extra VAT on your behalf if you book your 2011 holiday before 31 August 2010
THE RIGHT HOLIDAY FOR YOU
SAFE & SECURE
Room Types
We are fully bonded tour operator members of the Association of British Travel Agents, so you can be sure that all payments made to us in advance of your holiday are fully protected.
Financial Security
All of the hotel rooms included in our programme have private bath or shower and WC. A limited number of single rooms is available at each hotel but there is always huge demand for these and we advise early booking. Look out for the Special Offers when there is no charge for single rooms.
Sea View Rooms Many of the hotels featured in this brochure now offer the opportunity to book a guaranteed sea or loch view at a small additional charge.
Quieter Rooms Some resorts can be lively places, so if you live in a quiet area, don’t forget to request a quiet room when you book your holiday.
No Smoking in Hotels Smoking is prohibited on all coaches and in the public areas of all hotels. All of our Leisureplex Hotels also prohibit smoking in the hotel bedrooms.
Holiday Insurance Special Requests If you require a ground floor room or prefer a special diet or have any other request which you feel the hotel should know about, please ensure you write the information on your booking form (or indicate that option when booking on our web site). We guarantee to pass this information on to the hotel although we can never guarantee that such special requests will be met. If you are mobility impaired or have other special needs, please write or e-mail our Customer Care Department care@alfatravel.co.uk for assistance in ensuring your needs can be met. For the latest information regarding special needs, please see the “Frequently Asked Questions” section of our web site.
IIt is vital that you are covered by adequate personal insurance when you travel. The insurance policy we offer is very competitive and has no age restrictions. For full details see page 15.

Local Pick-up Points Feeder Services For all tours (except those described on page 12) clients are conveyed by feeder services between their joining point and Durham Services at Bowburn on the A1(M). Approximate timings are as follows: Outward: 9:15am Return:5.00pm Pick up times are finalised 14 days prior to departure and will be indicated on your travel ticket. Clients booking less than 14 days prior to departure may be offered a restricted choice of pick up points.
Choosing Your Joining Point Please consider the relative locations of your joining point, the interchange and your eventual destination. It is possible to get from all joining points to all destinations but some combinations are not advisable. For example, we do not recommend anyone living north of Newcastle using the feeder system to travel to Scotland because the feeder journey takes you first to Bowburn before returning north again. Please note: The feeder coach may not necessarily show the destination to which you are travelling – please check with driver. On some occasions taxis may be used to provide the feeder service from some points.

In all, this brochure features a choice of almost 50 different hotels. Most of our holidays are to our own Leisureplex Hotels and we give brief details of them here. For further details about them as well as information on the non-Leisureplex hotels we use, please refer to our web site www.alfatravel.co.uk. The web site provides far more detail than is possible here including lots of resort information and links to local attractions and events .
Grades Hotel grading is quite a subjective process and it can be difficult to compare one hotel with another. We have tried to overcome the problem by ensuring that our own hotels are part of the best known scheme - the AA scheme. We also show our own opinion of all the hotels featured in our brochure using our symbol. The grade is designed to be more focussed on our customers’ needs. In awarding an grade, we bear in mind the frequency of entertainment (which is not part of the AA scheme) and disregard such matters as the availability of room service. We also consider the comments we have received from clients during the past year.

All departures on this new range of Alfa Direct Join holidays operate without using feeder services giving a quicker journey and eliminating any risk of a wait for your connecting coach. Most holidays are weekend breaks – ideal for the little extra holiday! This service is only possible from larger towns and inevitably the choice is more restricted than with a feeder system. However, the bonus of a more direct journey makes up for the limited choice and we are confident our regular customers will find these Alfa Direct Join a useful addition to our range. These holidays are designed to be booked primarily on the Internet and hence the details listed here are very brief. For full details , please view our web site www.alfatravel.co.uk
How Do I Book? Holidays are listed in groups based on the joining points available. Please read through all the lists to find the holidays which are available from your local town because some towns are on more than one route. If one of these takes your fancy, then ask your travel agent to visit our web site, or log on to our web site yourself at www.alfatravel.co.uk, select “Make a Booking” and enter the holiday details. Check the detailed information on the web site for more details of the excursions and facilities and follow the detailed guidance to make your booking. It really is very easy – and totally secure.

“Off the Peg” Group Holidays Most group organisers opt to choose from one of the great value breaks advertised in our holiday brochures. All of the holidays in this brochure are available for booking by groups and your group will always get the best value by booking one of our advertised tours because we bulk-buy the space and pass the savings on to you. We can tailor most itineraries to your requirements, for example by adding extra excursions or omitting entrance fees. Our generous discounts provide the 21st, 31st, 41st and 51st passenger travelling absolutely free of charge on all advertised holidays. We also offer special joining arrangements for groups and, providing there is a minimum of 40 persons in the party, groups are automatically given sole use of the coach. If your group is not large enough to take a whole coach, we can easily reserve part of a coach for your party and can usually make arrangements with local travel agencies to “top up” your group with individual bookings from your local area to avoid the need to travel via an interchange. Our Direct Join holidays are especially suitable for part groups and the joining points can normally be adjusted to your requirements.
“Made to Measure” Group Holidays We have a wealth of experience in organising special interest tours and tailoring itineraries to meet your particular requirements and make suggestions for you to consider. Please contact our Groups Department on 08451 304666 (calls are charged at local rate only); you will be surprised how flexible we can be!
These Boots Were Made for Walking… Many of the hotels we use are ideally placed as a base for walking holidays. Whether your party would like to walk the coastal paths of Devon and Cornwall, enjoy the delights of the Lake District, the Dales or North York Moors or undertake something a little more strenuous in Snowdonia, the Cairngorms or West of Scotland, our Groups Department will be delighted to assist. Here are just a few hotel suggestions for you to consider: Snowdonia from Llandudno or Criccieth, Glamorgan from Porthcawl, Dales and North York Moors from Scarborough, Exmoor and Devon Coastal Path from Ilfracombe, Cornish Coastal Path: North from Newquay, South West from St Ives or South from Falmouth, South Downs Way from Bognor Regis, Lake District from Coniston, Argyll from Dunoon and Nevis Range from Fort William. As a Group Organiser you have the benefit of having your own coach and driver on hand for most of your stay which means you have the maximum flexibility in planning your walking itinerary.
