TANGER - MED URBAN CONCEPT Location: Port of Tanger - MED Morocco MAR 2014 Research - Sustainable Urbanism Size: XL

[ NEED FOR RESTORATION ]

SYNTH / Cloud Restoration A significative area of the hillside nearby Tanger’s brand new international port was turned into a wasteland due to the extraction earthworks. To avoid soil runoff over the port area, and droughts that may ocurr due to a break in the natural cycle of water, it is proposed to settle on the hillside by minimizing earthworks and maximizing the moisture catchment and soil restoration. The site is analyzed in terms of natural water catchment regions, and lower slopes, and a narrowly related pattern of building and vegetation is placed upon thee.

REINOSA SOCIOCULTURAL CENTER Location: Reinosa, Cantabria Spain DEC 2013 Competition Size: M SYNTH / Urban Greenouse Understand vernacular building features in Reinosa as a response to one of the coldest climatic regions in northern Spain. Thick stone walls, narrow alleys, open sun-halls, they protect us from the cold mountain winds. This building offers a protected square for a cold town,a big portion of public space enhaced with a warm microclimate, taking the shape of a big scale greenhouse. The greenhouse is a building that contains a square, arranged in specialized program volumes and flexible areas.

MORERÉ LODGEMENT SYSTEM Location: Moreré, Bahía Brasil AUG 2013 Commission Size: XS SYNTH / Tropical Apparats This lodgement system is obtained by stacking two different gabled porticos using bamboo (Guadua Angustifolia) as the main structural material. Several arrangements in plan are achieved, allowing natural light and cross-ventilation, optimal use of resources and very low building timing. The inner space is wide despite it’s small size. The tilted facade increases the sensation of size and lets northern light inside the cabin. The southern side features a generous cantilever and a double-ventilated roofing to ensure solar protection

[ A CLASH OF URBAN LANDSCAPES ]

MADRID MATADERO MIXED SCHOOL OF ARTS Location: Matadero, Madrid Spain MAY 2013 Thesis Size: L SYNTH / Clash of Landscapes A School of Art located at the junction of tho landscapes of great personality: The old city’s slaughter house -recently turned into a center for the Arts- and the new Riverside Park of Madrid-Rio. A strategy of blurring this urban edge is proposed. Learn from both situations to house two layers of programme of a very different nature. The ground level is in touch with Madrid-Rio. It houses the public programme amongst the curved shapes of its landscape and underneath the upper classroom level. The proposed park situation recalls the proportion of the industrial tissue, with a new material language of vegetal façades.

STRUCTURAL PROTOTYPE CARRIED OUT AT NBDA - KOHIMA, NAGALAND

RESEARCH - WORKSHOP Location: Shillong, Meghalaya India JAN 2010 Commission Size: S SYNTH / New Vernacular The lost building methods of the traditional Khasi house were studied to be re-interpretated with contemporary techniques, in partnerhips with local chapters of the Indian Bamboo Mission agency. Stone basis, strong rafters and light aerodynamic roofing, are the response to frecuent earthquakes and strong rainy winds. The proposed prototype is a two storey, foil shaped synclastic structure, that works under the requirements of earthquake resistance and aerodynamic performance. Load bearing tests were carried out before the final prototype, in the two species available and suitable for the purpose, Bambusa Tulda and Bambusa Balcoa.
