Did you know that you could still be infected with the flu even if you don’t feel sick or show symptoms? And you could pass on the virus to others. Severe influenza can lead to a stay in hospital which may in turn increase frailty and loss of independence for older people.
People aged over 65 experience up to 91 percent of flu-related deaths and around 70 percent of flu-related hospital stays.
The vaccine immunisation is the best protection against influenza. It naturally boosts your immune system to fight the virus when it attacks.
Free flu shots are available for people 65 and over from general practices and many community pharmacies.
Influenza is not the same as a cold. It is a more serious disease that can also make other existing medical conditions worse.
The influenza vaccine is a prescription medicine. Talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist about the benefits and possible risks. And, if you’re aged between 65 and 80 years old, ask if you’re also eligible for the free shingles immunisation.
Influenza immunisation is especially important for people aged 65 years and over.
Check out www.fightflu.co.nz to find out whether you qualify for free flu immunisation or call 0800 IMMUNE 0800 466 863.
We specialise in unique handmade outdoor garden pots, accessories, water features, Buddha’s and so much more... We also have a coffee shop onsite for a hot coffee while you wander our huge store.
NOW IS THE TIME TO GET YOUR INFLUENZA VACCINATION! Getting a vaccination is easy and convenient at your local Life Pharmacy Tauranga Crossing. You could come in contact with influenza at any time. Around one in four New Zealanders are infected with influenza each year. Don’t assume you are immune. Many people won’t feel sick at all, but can still pass it on to others. Influenza can be anywhere. Contact with the influenza virus is almost unavoidable, and while contact does not necessarily mean infection, it does mean that you are never far from the possibility of catching influenza.

This Edition:
KATIKATI BIRD GARDENS
These beautiful and tranquil gardens are on the edge of the inner Tauranga harbour. Water-lilly ponds, mature trees, flower gardens and natural wetlands the gardens are a delight year round. And with many varieties of birds wandering free and in aviaries this special corner of New Zealand is truely unique.
THE GARDENS
THE BIRDS
The Bird Gardens are on the outskirts of Katikati and were created in 1976 when local visionary Chris Parker set to work landscaping a little over ten acres of land running down to the harbour’s edge.
For bird enthusiasts the gardens are an oasis. Set on the edge of the harbour with a purpose built man-made fresh water lake and with natural saline wetlands visitors can get up close and experience a fantastic area of the gardens.
With his English background, botanical knowledge and the sites natural attributes of fresh water springs, ponds and wetlands he transformed this once bare land into a beautiful and special garden.
The wetlands area are home to a number of Kawaupaka (little shags) and white faced herons nest in the magnolias, black swans and a variety of ducks grace the ponds.
Sealed paths meander through spectacular golden Swamp Cypress, water trickles its way to the sea through an elaborate series of ponds. Most of the original plantings remain to this day and year round colour is provided by the giant camellias and magnolias brightening the winter hues, azaleas and lilies form the spring and summer palettes with shades of green, red, yellow and orange from the trees. Several native birds are on display: if you visit over winter you may be lucky enough to see Kotuku Ngutu Papa or Royal Spoonbill swooping over the ponds; you are certain to hear the distinctive croak of white faced herons as they glide between treetops – and in late winter you’ll discover dozens of Tui’s in the flowering cherries.
The garden and aviary tour is a 45-60 min walk. The paths have directional arrows which lead to and from the lawn below the cafe. There are also secondary paths for the more adventurous. These, for example, lead down from the wedding lawn into the dell. The Moa and wetland walks which are a real highlight. Contact: 07 549 0912. Open: 10am – 4.30pm, 7 days.
In the more formal areas of the gardens visitors can see Kereru (Wood Pigeon), Kakariki (NZ Parakeet).
SITE INFORMATION The gardens have approximately 1.5kms of paths. These are tar sealed on slopes and are wheel chair friendly. The paths are 1.4 metres wide so our golf carts can negotiate them.

Herbs for Health The practice of using herbal remedies to improve and strengthen the natural healing process is as old as time.
Suitable conditions for growing herbs Herbs do not require rich soil – in fact, this can result in soft, leggy growth that may collapse the plant in dry conditions. Mulch around herbs to prevent drying out. Most herbs require good drainage to encourage lush growth. Herbs generally prefer soil of a gravelly nature. The great majority of herbs like sunshine, low humidity and evenly distributed rainfall. Small leaved varieties generally come from Mediterranean countries, so they thrive best in open sunny positions which are protected from cold winds.
Herbs in the landscape A special herb garden is very attractive and can be formal or informal in design. A large container or collection of pots will also make an excellent herb garden. But herbs do not have to be in an isolated plot of their own, or just in the vegetable garden. They have become a valuable part of the garden as a whole. When landscaping, many of the perennial herbs should be included with other perennials, roses and ornamentals as part of the overall garden design.
Herbs and your health The practice of using herbal remedies to improve and strengthen the natural healing process is as old as time. The fresher the better – all the more reason to grow your very own herb garden. Most herbal medicines are taken in the form of teas. When using herbs for medicinal purposes, fresh herbs should be used whenever possible. If using dried, use only of the quantity specified. Use about three tablespoons of chopped fresh herbs to one cup of boiling water, cover and stand for five minutes for flavour to fully develop. This is commonly referred to as “infusing”. If a sweetener is required, use honey rather than sugar.
Herbal teas Lovage: A strong flavoured leaf which acts as a wind expeller.
Rosemary: Good for stomach upsets. Sage: Gargle for sore throats. Take for feverish colds. Summer Savoury: Relieves flatulence and stomach upsets. Tansy: A herb said to get rid of worms. Do not take during pregnancy. Tarragon: Relieves toothache and stops hiccups. Thyme: Relieves headaches and insomnia. Yarrow: Promotes perspiration, so it is good for feverishness in colds and flu.
Peppermint: Is particularly good for colds.
A herb is a delightful plant with many uses far beyond the purely decorative. As well as blending beautifully with most garden schemes, their varieties of foliage, colours, textures, tastes, and perfumes give much pleasure.
Parsley: A good diuretic which cleans the kidneys and is very rich in iron.
And once again, the ancient healing properties of herbs are becoming more widely used.
Mint: All varieties are soothing for stomach ailments.

The Name ‘Tauranga’ "Tauranga" means literally "landing place" from the Māori "tau", "to land". The name reflects the city's position on the shores of the harbour. Our Tauranga is certainly the largest and best known place of that name, but is certainly not the only Tauranga. Check an atlas and you will find several other places in New Zealand with this name. Although the name "Tauranga" was known and used by the first Europeans, it referred to the whole of the district around the harbour, not to the mission settlement or, later, the newly established military township. In a similar way the name "Rotorua" was used for the area around the lakes long before the government spa was established in 1880. The first name used for the peninsula on which the mission station was established in the 1830s was "Te Papa". Māori history relates that many waka passed through the Tauranga harbour, leaving people, legends and place names to mark their passing. The name "Te Papa" is said to have originated with Hei of the Arawa canoe. This name was in common use by both European and Māori until the late 1870s.The first editions of the Bay of Plenty Times carry advertisements for businesses on the waterfront which gave their address as "Beach Road, Te Papa". By the end of the 1870s there had been a complete change over, and the same businesses in the same location were using "The Strand, Tauranga" as their address. Te Papa is still used in the legal description found on title deeds, and by the Te Papa Rotary Club.

Make An Appointment Dr Anuya Deshpande, Tauranga, Papamoa-based varicose vein doctor Knowing those “known unknowns” about your health can be like the sun coming out in Winter. When you know something in or on your body needs checking out or fixing it can give you an uneasy feeling. Your body is the only one you have, yet people (men especially!) take better care of their car.
A "known unknown" becomes a "known known" (with the occasional "unknown unknown" picked up along the way). Seen here using ultrasound to diagnose varicose veins – Dr Anuya Deshpande encourages people to concentrate on the initial step to addressing a health issue – call and make an appointment with a health professional so you know what you're dealing with sooner rather than later.
A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, so it’s worth focusing on that first step – pick up the phone, and make the appointment. Whether it’s a toothache, mole, pain, depression or blood where it shouldn’t be – take a first step to find out about it. Dr Anuya Deshpande worked as a GP before completing further qualifications in cosmetic medicine, dermatology, skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, and varicose vein diagnosis and treatment. She says an enjoyable aspect of her work is seeing patients leave with fewer worries than they arrived with. “People can be scared about coming in for a vein assessment, for example, because they still think it’s about vein stripping, or they don’t think the symptoms can be fixed, that it’s just something they have to live with as they age. It’s quite empowering for them to find that a lot of issues they’ve lived with for years – heavy restless legs, swelling, ulcers, varicose eczema – can be easily resolved once we treat the underlying cause.” While the cosmetic medicine aspect of her practice deals with issues that are less medical than varicose veins, there is still relief for people when they talk – often for the first time – about something that has bothered them for a long time. “It can be something as simple as a raised mole they’ve been shaving around for 30 years, or a double chin or gummy smile that means they hate seeing photos of themselves. There’s something great about finding out an issue can be sorted pretty easily, it’s just a matter of making that phone call to make an appointment for an initial consultation.”

• The bark of the hemp stalk contains bast fibres, which are among the Earth’s longest natural soft fibres and are also rich in cellulose. The cellulose and hemi-cellulose in its inner woody core are called hurds. • Hemp stalk is not psychoactive. • Hemp paper more than 1,500 years old has been found.
• Hemp fibre is longer, stronger, more absorbent and more insulative than cotton fibre. • Hemp fibre paper resists decomposition, and does not yellow with age when an acidfree process is used. • Hemp paper can also be recycled more times than wood-based paper. • Eco-friendly hemp can replace most toxic petrochemical products. • Research is being done to use hemp in manufacturing biodegradable plastic products: plant-based cellophane, recycled plastic mixed with hemp for injection-moulded products, and resins made from the oil, to name a very few examples. • Over two million cars on the road today have hemp composite parts for door panels, dashboards, luggage racks, etc. 11

Latest Technology Frees Up Healthcare Professionals’ Time For Patients Technology, in the form of an automated tablet-counting machine, is helping speed up a traditional task and free up more time for patients say healthcare professionals. Manually counting tablets has historically been a big time consumer for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and nurses. No longer, as the BOPDHB becomes one of New Zealand’s first DHBs to install a repackaging machine in its Tauranga Hospital Pharmacy.
“It’s all about the patients at the end of the day,” said Cindy. “It frees staff up from manual, non-value-add tasks and allows the pharmacists and technicians to spend more time with them. It’s about adding value out on the wards with the people we’re caring for. “This is one of the first repackaging machines in a DHB in the country. Installing it has been about listening to staff and giving them the tools to do their job more efficiently.” It’s not just in the pharmacy where the benefits will be felt said Director of Nursing Julie Robinson.
Nurses administering tablets on wards would also now have more time freed up for patients. Pharmacy Technician Tayla Lum and her colleagues undertook timed tests manually counting tablets and then replicating those with ‘Evie’. Early results showed the machine was around 4.5 times faster. “Not only does it take less time to do the job than it would manually, but you can be doing other things whilst it’s working, such as labelling.” said Tayla. “It also means we can spend more time with patients discussing how to optimise their medication management. “It will make a big difference to the way we work and the pharmacists and technicians will work together to make the most of any efficiencies it offers.” For more details contact: James Fuller, Communications Advisor – Bay of Plenty District Health Board.

Virtual Gastric Band • Want to lose weight easily without dieting or surgery?
• Want to be fit and healthy?
• Struggling to shift those extra kilos?
• Are you looking to get your body confidence back?
• Want energy to do all those things you dream of?
• Want sustained weight loss?
This is a high profile project for the region with significant community support, including contributions from the Tauranga Round Table and other potential external investors, as well as assistance from project partners PowerCo and KiwiRail. The project will provide an alternative way to access the urban communities in the area, schools, parks and reserves, Tauranga Harbour area and the higher density rural development areas planned for under the sub-region’s SmartGrowth partnership. The development of this northern city route will also provide an alternative transport choice to the busy State Highway 2 corridor that connects the area to Tauranga City.
Benefits The project will provide a much safer alternative to the existing state highway corridor, where heavy and high volume traffic is suppressing demand for cycling. This scenic new route will encourage more walking and cycling between the urban communities in the area and is likely to increase the number of children cycling to school. It will also become a key part of a tourist trail from Waihi to Maketu. The route is expected to attract 130-200 commuter cyclists a day, with a higher estimate for recreational users.
Timing The trail is split into many stages but construction is now well underway. The June update expects Omokoroa to the Wairoa river to be completed sometime between July & September 2019 and the new Wairoa River bridge crossing “clip-on” structure to the State Highway Bridge before Christmas 2019.
Key Facts Estimated cost has risen to $13,400,000. Funding is between NZ Transport Agency, Western Bay Council and Tauranga City Council – with additional community and third party contributions including a $1million grant from TECT. Total length is about 19km.
Clinical Hypnotherapist Angel Esvella invites local people struggling to lose and maintain their weight to take part in the hypnotic weight-loss system which incorporates the Virtual Gastric band developed by UK Clinical Hypnotherapist Sheila Granger.

The Wellbeing Budget: Little To Offer For Retirees Aside from the almost $15.5 billion set aside to cover NZ Superannuation (NZS) payments there was very little of note in the government’s ‘Wellbeing Budget’ directly targeting retirees. Of course, $15.5 billion isn’t small change: the NZS figure is the biggest single line item in the budget, representing almost 18 per cent of the total $87.3 billion doled out by Finance Minister Grant Robertson on May 30. Maintaining the NZS status quo, though, is always going to be an expensive business and one that, for now, remains ring-fenced from fiscal reforms. However, there are a couple of minor changes buried in the budget detail including a move to “modernise and simplify” NZS and Veteran Pension payments. “This will be done by providing funding to implement system changes so that people’s entitlement is based primarily on their own circumstances rather than on their partner’s,” the budget paper says. “There will be savings to the Crown from these changes, which will continue to increase in out-years.” According to the budget forecasts, these system changes to pension payments will cut more than $100 million off the government pension bill in the 2022/23 financial year – although what this means in practice remains to be seen. At the same time, the 2019 budget offers some reprieve to workers on the brink of retirement who suffer employment-ending injuries.
Perfect for Small Flats & Retirement Homes
Under current rules, injured workers nearing or past the official retirement age of 65 have to choose between receiving Accident Compensation Commission (ACC) payments or the NZS.
Pelle 3 Pce Set • • • •
The Wellbeing Budget removes that difficult and unfair choice. “ACC claimants who first become entitled to weekly compensation for a personal injury while close to or above the superannuation qualification age will now be able to receive up to 24 months of weekly compensation, regardless of whether they also receive New Zealand Superannuation or the Veteran’s Pension,” the budget says. Elsewhere, the government makes a few other little concessions to the needs of the aging population with a $7.7 million ‘package’ covering upgrades to the SuperGold Card (which will join the mobile tech age with an ‘app’ due for release later this year) and something called “digital literacy training. If the Robertson budget did little to specifically boost retiree lifestyles, the aging population will likely benefit from a promised uptick in spending designed to improve the quality of New Zealand’s health system – albeit the changes may be slow in coming.

Time To Update Western Bay Property Values If you own property in the Western Bay you may be visited by a professional valuer who will be assessing the current land and capital value of your place for rating purposes.
Revaluations are done every two to three years by Western Bay of Plenty District Council to gain a district-wide appraisal of property values to accurately assess the value of a property at a given time. Valuers will be travelling around the District until the end of October 2019 – visiting addresses and driving the streets looking at properties across all rural and urban categories. If no one is home when the valuer calls, a calling card will be left explaining the process to the property owner. Valuers will carry identification and their vehicles will be sign-written. The valuers are not employees of Council, they work for the independent valuation firm Opteon. Opteon is contracted by Council to carry out this service and is an approved valuation service provider by the Office of the Valuer-General. Opteon’s rating valuers have the legal right to enter properties and owners are required to answer any questions to enable a correct valuation to be made. Please help the valuers do their job.
These valuations will provide a snapshot of our District as at 21 July 2019 and are used for the sole purpose of rating. They do not reflect the value of your property on the open market, nor do they reflect the sale price of any property. A change in valuation does not necessarily relate to a change in rates for a property. This will only happen if the new value has increased or decreased more than the average for the District. Some valuations will go up, others will go down – some won’t change. The new valuations will be used for rating purposes from 1 July 2020. The valuation results will be advised by mail from 9 December 2019. All property owners will receive notice of their new valuation plus a brochure with all the necessary information about the revaluation process and how to make an objection. Anyone who does not agree with their valuation is welcome to lodge an objection up until 31 January 2020.

Changes For Superannuitants Getting ACC weekly payments
If your partner gets an overseas pension
From 1 July 2019, if you’re entitled to weekly ACC compensation for a personal injury, you’ll be able to get those payments, along with NZ Super or the Veteran’s Pension, for up to 2 years.
From 1 July 2020, your NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension won’t be affected if your partner’s getting an overseas pension.
SuperGold card Before the end of 2019 the SuperGold website will be upgraded and a SuperGold app created. This will make it easier to know where you can get discounts. You’ll still be able to use your card in the same way you do now.
Non-qualifying partners From 1 July 2020, if you have a partner and they don’t qualify for NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension, you won’t be able to include them in your payments. If your partner doesn’t qualify and is currently included in your payments, you will keep getting this rate unless your circumstances change.

Eggs In A Basket A man is walking down a road with a basket of eggs. As he is walking he meets someone who buys one-half of his eggs plus one-half of an egg. He walks a little further and meets another person who buys one-half of his eggs plus one-half of an egg. Tauranga City Council Plans Ahead For Population Growth Over the past 30 years Tauranga’s population has doubled and is expected to grow by more than 50,000 within the next three decades. To manage future growth of the city, council will be working to understand how local communities could change over time and what people’s future needs and priorities may be. As part of this, council will be running a series of events in the city’s central suburbs to inform its next stage of planning. Council has also begun investigating how specific City Plan rules may need to change to support a wider range of housing choice that guide and control the level of change that is appropriate. Although growth will affect the wider city, recent community engagement showed support for a more compact city with higher density housing types focused around centres and public transport hubs, as well as areas of high amenity. As a result, council have identified the area which runs from the Harbour Bridge to Barkes Corner, including the Avenues, Gate Pā, and Greerton, as having the ability accommodate growth. This area was historically known as Te Papa meaning ‘the flat area’. Tauranga City Council General Manager for Strategy and Growth, Christine Jones says Te Papa is centrally located and already has some of the key community, social and infrastructure assets in place.
“To manage the long term growth of our city over time, the Te Papa peninsula provides an opportunity to provide more housing choice in close proximity to significant employment hubs, services, schools and parks. It is also well serviced by public transport services that will improve in frequency over time. The peninsula also has a comparatively lower risk to the natural hazards that our coastal areas face.”
Upcoming Events And Updates To find out about the upcoming community events or to sign up to E-News on the project visit council’s website www.tauranga.govt.nz/ Tepapa Event details will be available from 1 August.
The upcoming events will give interested residents the ability to input on what future growth looks like within the Te Papa peninsula. Council will use the information it gathers at the upcoming community events together with information from key stakeholders to prepare a plan over the next 12 months, (known as a spatial framework or blueprint). This plan would focus on things like the transport, infrastructure and community facility projects required to support growth and change, which will be shared back with the community. Findings will also inform specific changes to the City Plan, that will run alongside the development of the spatial framework.

Vertigo Clinic – for the assessment and treatment of dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders.
FEELING DIZZY? If you suffer from DIZZINESS, VERTIGO or BALANCE PROBLEMS, we may be able to help you. At the Vertigo Clinic, we are Physiotherapists trained in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of dizziness and vertigo symptoms.
What Is Vestibular Rehabilitation?
The Vestibular System is our body’s balance system. If damaged by disease or injury, the brain can no longer rely on it for accurate information about equilibrium and motion, often resulting in dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, and other symptoms. Vestibular Rehabilitation (VR) can retrain the brain to recognize and process signals from the vestibular system in coordination with our other balance sensors (vision and proprioception), minimising dizziness and improving balance. VR also includes treatment for vertigo caused by BPPV (Positional Vertigo).
We can help you to improve your balance, reduce the risk of falling, and regain your general confidence.

Standing Up To Falls Many people over the age of 55 are concerned about losing their independence following a fall. But it’s not something that ‘just happens’ as you get older. Many falls can be prevented. That means you can take positive steps to protect yourself and ensure you continue to enjoy an active, fulfilling life. Falls Are The Single Most Common Cause Of Injury Some people, especially those who have experienced a serious fall, can worry so much about falling they restrict their activity. They gradually do less activity, which can actually increase their risk of falling. Women are one and a half times more likely to fall than men. Falls cause 90% of all hip fractures. If you are over 65 you have a one in three chance of falling this year. If you have fallen more than once in the past six months, you are more likely to fall again. Talk to your doctor about any falls you have. Falls can be a sign of a new medical problem. Keep Mobile Regular exercise is one of the best things you can do to help stand up to falls. That’s because weak leg muscles and poor balance increase your risk of falling. You are likely to walk less if you feel unsteady on your feet, and that leads to weaker muscles and stiffer joints. If this sounds like you, it’s time to get active through regular exercise! One in five people over 65 will suffer serious injuries as a result of a fall.
Look Out For Your Eyes We can never take our eyesight for granted. Our eyes help us see obstacles, judge distances and keep our balance. As we get older, we take longer to adjust to sudden changes in light, are more sensitive to glare and less able to judge distances and depth accurately, for more information click to see how you can look after yourself. By the age of 65, we need three times the amount of light to see than we did at 20.
These tips are just some ideas for preventing falls. You can find out more by calling 0800 844 657 visiting www.acc.co.nz or by contacting your health professional. This information has been developed by the Accident Compensation Corporation of New Zealand. ACC would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Australian Department of Health and Ageing in the development of this content.
Stand Up For Your Feet Keeping yourself mobile is very important in avoiding falls. As we age, our feet can change shape and lose some feeling. Painful, swollen feet or badly fitting shoes can make walking difficult and affect our balance. If you are over 80, you have a 50% chance of falling this year Make Your Home and Garden a Safe Haven For Yourself, and For Your Family and Friends Everyone’s home is different, so it pays to be aware of your surroundings and things that could make your home unsafe. BOP quit smoking service one of the best in NZ The Bay of Plenty’s free Stop Smoking Support service, Hāpainga remains one of the top three services in New Zealand for its successful quit smoking rate. New Zealand has 16 Stop Smoking Support services. As part of the Government’s goal of Smokefree Aotearoa 2025, each service works hard to encourage as many of the community to become smoke free. Smoking cessation practitioners use a carbon monoxide detector, a bit like a breathalyser, after four weeks to verify whether or not a client is smoke free. Low to nil levels of carbon monoxide indicates the person is no longer smoking, at which point they receive a $50 supermarket voucher. Hāpainga Team Leader Lizzie Spence says, “For the last couple of years, we’ve consistently had a minimum 75% successful quit smoking rate at four weeks – ranked in the top three across the country.
“It’s a great achievement. We’re a small team of five smoking cessation practitioners supporting people to quit across both the Eastern and Western Bay. We understand the struggles people go through trying to quit but also the struggles of buying the smokes. For the average couple smoking 10 tailor-made cigarettes a day, the yearly bill is over $10,000. “Our team really focuses on treating each client as an individual. Quitting smoking is a real journey. Our team might meet with a client several times before they even set a quit date. Building a rapport and trust with them is crucial to the successful outcome,” says Lizzie. For more details contact: James Fuller, Communications Advisor – Bay of Plenty District Health Board.

Dog Registration All dogs must be registered by three months of age. Dog registration expires on 30 June each year. Council offers a discounted registration fee of $87 if your dog is registered by 31 July or $130 if registered after this date. Fees to register a dog classified as dangerous are $131 if registered by 31 July and $196.50 after this date. A $300 infringement fee may be issued to an owner or person caring for an unregistered dog. To avoid this, register your dog early. If you register a puppy, the fee is calculated from the date the puppy turns three months old to take into account how much time is left in the registration year. If your dog was registered with us last year, registration forms will be automatically sent to you in June.
What you need to know about registering a dog: • all puppies must be registered by the time they are three months old • all newly purchased or acquired dogs (over three months olds) must be registered immediately • dog registration renewal needs to be done before 1 July each year • it’s an offence to keep an unregistered dog
Microchipping is different to registering your dog. You can also re-register you dog, or register a new dog online at https://www.tauranga.govt.nz/ Any dog over the age of three months and not registered or re-registered by 30 June of each year is an unregistered dog (even though the discount period continues to 31 July your dog’s registration expires on the 30 June of each year).
• you are committing an offence if your dog is found wearing a registration tag issued to another dog • a dog not wearing a current registration tag is considered to be unregistered until proven otherwise
If you lose your registration tag, you can get a new one from our customer service centre on Willow Street for $7.
• you will need to provide your date of birth when registering your dog, this helps distinguish you from someone else with the same name • every dog that’s registered for the first time must be implanted with a working microchip • if your dog dies or is exported out of New Zealand, you can apply in writing for a partial refund of the dog registration. Registering your dog with council together with its microchip number allows us to quickly re-unite you with your dog should it inadvertently escape. In most cases, this is a free service if the dog is registered and has no recent animal shelter history.
