We are very pleased to introduce you to our Cayman Islands 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) Report. Our purpose is to make an impact that matters for our clients, our people, our community and our environment. You will see from this report the contribution we are making across each of these areas.

CSR 2021 Report | 3

The Maples Group has been an active member of the Cayman Islands community for many years - indeed, 2022 marks our 55th anniversary in the Cayman Islands and the 21st anniversary of the establishment of The Maples Foundation.

Last year, we sought to formally report on our CSR activities in the Cayman Islands when we issued our inaugural Cayman Islands Corporate Social Responsibility 2020 Report, which looks back at our CSR activities in the prior year. We are very pleased to now share with you an overview of some of our CSR activities during 2021 as we continue to make an impact for our clients, our people, our community and our environment.

As one of the largest employers in the Cayman Islands, and the largest in financial services, we create a work environment where current and future team members can learn, thrive and excel. With a 66% Caymanian workforce, we are committed to investing in the next generation through our internships and educational assistance programmes, cultivating exciting and rewarding careers.

As a corporate citizen, we are also passionate about supporting and developing the local community. We believe through strong values, altruism and compassion we can make a difference and help inspire others to do the same. This is one of the reasons why we have started to issue our Corporate Social Responsibility Report.

Through our long-standing sponsorship programmes, funding and volunteer initiatives, we continue to support local causes and organisations that focus on the development, improvement and benefit of the following six pillars:

• Arts & Culture

• Community Outreach

• Environment • Healthcare

• Sports • Youth & Education

Throughout this report you will see a range of initiatives we undertake, the ways which we collaborate and interact with our local community, and the meaningful impact we hope to achieve by working together.

Read on to find out more about the community initiatives that we supported in 2021.

INFLUENCING THE NEXT GENERATION

Our scholarship, articles of clerkship and internship programmes continue to attract some of the most outstanding students.

Articles of Clerkship

Our articles of clerkship programme provides graduates the opportunity to train and qualify as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands without having to train in the UK or elsewhere.

In 2021, three of our articled clerks, John Ebanks, Ciara Hansen and Jordan Southway, were admitted as attorneys-at-law in the Cayman Islands. Since the programme launched in 2005, we have supported over 40 Caymanians to qualify as attorneys-at-law and are proud of their achievements.

Internships

Each year, we invite applications from young Caymanians who are in their final years of secondary education or beginning their tertiary education to work during the summer months within our various practice groups and business teams.

Since 2008, we have had over 360 internship placements of talented Caymanians as part of our internship programme, allowing them to sharpen their skills and cement their interest in any number of the fields we support, including law, fiduciary services, fund administration, accounting, marketing, compliance, information technology, office administration, human resources and information services.

I received exceptional legal training working alongside highly skilled partners and associates where I gained experience working on a broad range of complex legal transactions which has certainly equipped me to take on the role of an associate.

Jordan Southway, Articled Clerk 2020 – 2021

Scholarships

Since 1994, we have offered both legal and non-legal scholarships to outstanding Caymanian students to help with the cost of tuition, accommodation and study materials. We are delighted to have awarded more than 100 scholarships totalling over US$6.3 million to-date.

For the 2021 academic year, we were pleased to provide approximately US$300K across three legal scholarships and four non-legal scholarships.

ARTS & CULTURE

The arts are a vital outlet for expression, inspiration and growth in the Cayman Islands and our culture’s rich, creative tapestry of heritage is undoubtedly the soul of our community. However, the arts rely on constant community support to thrive and we are committed to participating in the preservation of cultural practices and supporting the work of local artists in the Cayman Islands, ensuring that current and future generations have artefacts, representative of their cultural identity, to enjoy and learn from for many years to come.

We seek out sponsorship opportunities in this area that:

• Promote the positive development and preservation of culture in the Cayman Islands

• Bring together community members in a positive way

• Support and share the talents of diverse groups

• Enrich the development of individual artists

• Provide the public with a greater appreciation of different cultural perspectives around them

Cayman National Cultural Foundation

We were pleased to support the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (“CNCF”) and their efforts to plan and develop programmes related to the continued collection, conservation, transmission and celebration of the intangible cultural heritage of the Cayman Islands, including initiatives such as the Cayman Islands Folk Singers.

National Gallery of the Cayman Islands

The addition of ‘arts’ to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education highlights the importance of nurturing artistic and creative skills and abilities. We were therefore delighted to support the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) and its efforts to celebrate our artistic heritage and provide educational and outreach programmes to ensure the continuation of a vibrant artistic scene within the Cayman Islands.

Cayman Islands National Museum

Through dynamic programmes, exhibits and collections, the Cayman Islands National Museum is the living connection to our past and helps to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the Cayman Islands’ unique natural and cultural heritage. We are honoured to help support this important organisation and its dedication toward Caymanian history.

National Trust for the Cayman Islands

As supporters of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands in various capacities over the years, we were proud to support the organisation again to help with its mission to preserve natural environments and places of historic significance for present and future generations.

These donations were made possible through our employee Dress for Your Day programme, which you can read more about on page 13 .

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

We firmly believe that local investment is not only the right thing to do but also has a profound impact on those in our community. Our outreach programmes strengthen our relationships with the local community and are representative of our commitment to acting responsibly and for the greater good.

We seek out sponsorship opportunities in this area that:

• Make a positive difference in the lives of others

• Bring together community members in a positive way

• Enrich the development of others

• Benefit the overall good of the Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands Crisis Centre

The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (“CICC”) provides a secure, emergency shelter for women and children escaping domestic abuse, and also support services for anyone experiencing domestic violence, including a 24-hour crisis phone line (943 2422), a kids’ helpline (649 5437), a safe space walk-in centre, crisis counselling, community outreach and youth programmes, plus many other helpful initiatives. Our donation in early 2021 covered rent for the walkin centres and helped to pay for shelter utilities, groceries, repairs and maintenance.

In further support, we also sponsored and attended CICC’s Jingle Bell 5K race and the annual Power of the Purse gala, celebrating its sixth year of raising money for CICC and honouring women in our local community.

Last year was very challenging for us as we were not able to organise any major fundraisers due to COVID-19. The Maples Group have helped us immensely during these trying times. We are very grateful for this generous contribution.

The Cayman Food Bank

We were pleased to be able to support local hungerrelief organisation the Cayman Food Bank with funds to purchase a brand new industrial refrigerator, which will be used to store and preserve many of the perishable items the organisation receives, and to reduce food waste. Read more about this partnership

Sunrise Adult Training Centre

Sunrise Adult Training Centre (“Sunrise”) provides training, support and services for the empowerment, employment and independence of adults with disabilities through a team of dedicated and caring staff.

10 | CSR 2021 Report

Did you know that January is Braille Literacy month?

In January 2021, we funded the purchase of a braille machine and compatible laptop with the goal of enriching the recreational and work opportunities for any Sunrise clients who are visually impaired.

Also, while the Cayman Islands remained essentially COVID-free in the summer of 2021, it was a pleasure to be able to socialise with our friends at Sunrise once again, with the Maples Group sponsoring a cinema and lunchtime social for clients of Sunrise. Attendees enjoyed pizza, birthday cake and an allround fun day out.

Demand for our support and supplies has grown exponentially since March 2020 and recently our commercial chiller stopped working. This affected our ability to receive perishable items for distribution to those in need, so the new cold storage unit is greatly appreciated and will be put to good use over the coming months.

Marie Eden, Member of Cayman Food Bank’s Board of Directors

We are encouraged that the Maples Group continues to support ARK’s Relief Care Package programme, that ensures that those impacted by the pandemic and the closure of our borders are not disconnected from food, utilities, housing and access to healthcare.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels (“MoW”) provides hot, nutritious meals (and warm smiles!) to over 300 treasured seniors who are among the most vulnerable in the Cayman community. As ever, we were proud to support MoW with a contribution towards a number of their exciting events and initiatives this year, such as sponsoring a table at the Orange You Glad Sunset Gala (we were glad some of the MoW volunteers were able to join us and enjoy the evening), donating towards MoW Community Food Drives and taking part in the Seniors Rock Dress Down Day in September.

Acts of Random Kindness

In continued support of those affected by the pandemic, in 2021 we donated a sum towards Acts of Random Kindness’ (“ARK”) Relief Care Package programme to provide financial assistance to families and individuals affected by COVID-19.

Resilience

Alongside the donation to ARK’s Relief Care Package programme, Resilience also received a sum towards their own Utility Relief initiative.

ENVIRONMENT

We are committed to making the world a greener place to live and proudly support organisations that work hard to restore, sustain and protect the environment for future generations. We strive to minimise our own negative impact and move towards more environmentally-friendly operations.

We seek out sponsorship opportunities in this area that:

• Bring together community members to assist in the restoration and protection of their natural surroundings in the Cayman Islands

• Support future-proofing initiatives (such as accessible, alternative energy sources) that will result in a cleaner, safer and healthier natural environment

• Educate people on the environmental impact of humans, seek to improve consumer habits and provide the public with a greater appreciation of the natural world

• Promote and fund conservation of native wildlife and critical ecosystems of the Cayman Islands

Central Caribbean Marine Institute

In 2021, we were proud to announce a new three-year partnership with the non-profit marine organisation Central Caribbean Marine Institute (“CCMI”). The partnership is part of CCMI’s Navigator Programme that helps to facilitate new projects, expand CCMI’s ocean and climate science literacy campaign, build a network of researchers and help to maintain and enhance field station facilities.

Read more about this partnership

Healthy oceans are vital for a healthy planet and for human life, particularly here in the Cayman Islands. The threats our reefs face require urgent, meaningful research and conservation action and this multi-year support from the Maples Group enables that work at CCMI.

14 | CSR 2021 Report

Plastic Free Cayman

Plastic Free Cayman aims to reduce plastic pollution in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean, through action, awareness and education projects. One such awareness project supported by the Maples Group is the Grand Swim, which took place in May 2022 with British swimmer Oly Rush completing a worldrecord non-stop swim around Grand Cayman. The swim raised vital funds for Plastic Free Cayman to hire a new employee and enabled the volunteer-led organisation to further outreach, extend education, raise awareness and take action to help reduce single-use plastic in the Cayman Islands.

Cayman Eco Divers Foundation

Coral reefs form complex and diverse ecosystems that are a habitat for approximately 25% of all marine species; but coral is dying and disappearing at an alarming rate because of local pressures and climate change. Cayman Eco Divers is a local non-profit coral conservation programme assisting in safeguarding and rejuvenating the vast underwater ecosystems of the Cayman Islands. Volunteer divers help to regrow and re-breed coral onto local reefs and donated funds go towards necessary volunteer equipment costs.

HEALTHCARE

Raising awareness on various diseases and health issues in the community is an initiative that the Maples Group is eager to support. We sponsor groups aiming to counsel, demystify and promote education on the wide range of health-related topics which affect every demographic of our community.

Cayman Islands Cancer Society –STRIDE Against Cancer

We seek out sponsorship opportunities in this area that:

• Support and encourage healthy lifestyles and the well-being of others

• Have a direct, positive impact on patient care

• Raise awareness of today’s health issues and help to combat various diseases and health disparities

Alex Panton Foundation

We are the official sponsor for an emergency services vehicle for the upcoming Adolescent and Children Emergency Mental Health Hub (the “Hub”), a new outreach initiative from the Health Services Authority (“HSA”) and the Alex Panton Foundation (“APF”). We are strong advocates for mental wellness and are proud to assist the APF and HSA with the provision of a mobile mental health unit. We hope this new vehicle makes it easier for young people to access critical support in a professional and safe environment.

We were also pleased to once again sponsor the APF’s Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium which this year centred on the theme of Reflection, Recovery and Resilience.

Team Maples was a proud sponsor of STRIDE Against Cancer 2021, with teammates manning the water stop and participating in one of the Cayman Islands’ largest annual fundraising 5Ks. This was another record-breaking year for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, with over 2,300 participants and all registration fees going towards the fight against cancer.

National Drug Council –2021 #ArriveAlive345 Campaign

The National Drug Council’s (“NDC”) annual holiday #ArriveAlive345 campaign is the combination of two important programmes: Compass Media’s Purple Ribbon Pledge (“PRP”) which focuses on drivers pledging not to drink and drive, and the Designated Driver (“DD”) campaign which encourages people to nominate themselves as DD to keep people safe.

Funds raised for the campaign assist with offering accessible alternatives to drunk driving, discourage and raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence, and also go towards educational and community prevention programming. We were pleased to offer our support as Gold sponsors in 2021.

16 | CSR 2021 Report

Cayman Islands Health Services Authority(“HSA”)

The COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on everyone within the global community, particularly medical staff who had been on the front lines for over two years keeping our health services up and running. The Cayman Islands HSA sought to host an appreciation event for the COVID-19 vaccination team and the Maples Group was more than happy to contribute and show our thanks to these diligent workers.

SPORTS

The Maples Group believes in the ability of sports to develop focus, commitment, leadership and discipline in our youth, enhance self-confidence and self-esteem, and bring our community together. We actively promote sports initiatives in the Cayman Islands and work with a variety of organisations to develop appropriate instructional, developmental and competitive programmes for their needs.

We seek out sponsorship opportunities in this area that:

• Provide a healthy and active lifestyle

• Help to develop focus, confidence, teamwork, commitment and discipline in the youth of the Cayman Islands

• Provide a safe environment to engage in extracurricular activities to develop a more productive and responsible adulthood

Cayman Islands Little League and Field of Dreams

In 2020, we forged a five-year partnership with the Cayman Islands Little League (“CILL”) and the YMCA to support the much-needed renovation of the Field of Dreams. As a Field Sponsor for one of the four fields, our donation assisted with the YMCA’s recent renovation project and, in February 2021, the newly resurfaced fields reopened for play and welcomed back the CILL.

Cayman Islands Aquatic Swimming Association

In 2021, we were delighted to renew our title sponsorship of the Maples Group Cayman Swimming National Development programme. For more than nine years, we have been a title sponsor of the Cayman Islands Aquatic Swimming Association (“CIASA”), providing an annual contribution to help CIASA swimmers achieve their goals. Our ongoing partnership with CIASA translates both to the individual success of their athletes and to the continued development of competitive and artistic swimming in the Cayman Islands.

CILL was established in 1990 and provides children from all socioeconomic backgrounds with the opportunity to spend the summer months participating in organised baseball and softball activities.

Cayman Rugby Football Union

The Cayman Rugby Football Club (“CRFC”) is a nonprofit organisation responsible for developing and promoting the sport of rugby for young persons within the Cayman Islands.

As a major partner of the CRFC, we are proud to be the main sponsor of the National Rugby Outreach Programme since 2009, known as the Maples Group Junior Rugby and the Maples Group Community Development programmes. The programmes aim to introduce rugby to school children across the various Cayman Islands districts, enabling them to learn the game and focus on a sporting activity outside of school. Since then, the popularity of the programme has grown considerably and continues to be offered on Saturdays between October and May for children 3 -16 years old.

18 | CSR 2021 Report

Special Olympics Cayman Islands

For over 30 years, the Special Olympics Cayman Islands (“SOCI”) has ensured that children and adults with physical or intellectual disabilities within our community have access to year-round training and competition in various Olympic sports. These opportunities are vital in developing essential physical fitness, providing athletes with possibility and purpose on and off the field and the chance to establish all-important social and communication skills, teamwork and independence. These opportunities in turn create a sense of joy and fulfilment amongst the athletes, their families and our wider Cayman community.

In our third year as Corporate Partner, we are proud to hear that SOCI currently supports 140 athletes across the Cayman Islands and has already submitted their athlete’s quota for the 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games. We look forward to cheering on the Cayman Islands team in the run-up to and during this prestigious global event in Berlin, Germany.

Youth Flag Football League

Each year, the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association hosts the Youth Flag Football League for children 7-17 years old to get active in a fun and safe environment. We were happy to continue our team sponsorship for the youth league in both the spring and fall of 2021 and wish a hearty congratulations to Coach Shawn Pitterson and the Maples Dolphins team on winning the championship in the senior division.

YOUTH & EDUCATION

As an organisation, it is our inherent obligation to underscore the importance of education and invest in the next generation of leaders. We focus on education assistance, skills development and support organisations and initiatives providing educationfocused programmes that prepare individuals for a productive and bright future.

Our commitment to education is a fundamental principle and philosophy of the Maples Group. In addition to our own education efforts, we are proud to support exemplary education-oriented organisations and seek out sponsorship opportunities that:

• Support and enrich the development and aspirations of young people

• Help to open a world of learning opportunities and advancements to individuals

• Equip, train, mould and shape youth toward a more productive and responsible adulthood

Alicia Thompson Award

In 2019, the Alicia Thompson Award was established by George Town Primary School and is bestowed upon one exemplary student in Year 6 at the school’s annual graduation ceremony. The award was created in honour of the school’s past-pupil Alicia Thompson, who is now an Associate with the Maples Group in the Cayman Islands.

The student selected for the award will have demonstrated both academic and extra-curricular excellence despite challenging personal circumstances. The award includes an honourary plaque and a gift certificate for Kirk Office.

We are honoured to sponsor the award and the monetary gift certificate to support the recipient with purchasing school supplies for the upcoming school term. Congratulations to the 2021 recipient.

United World College Cayman Islands

Since 2006, we have been an annual donor to United World College (“UWC”) Cayman Islands Foundation and have supported over 80 Caymanians attending United World Colleges around the world.

Our annual donation helps UWC Cayman provide financial assistance to Caymanian UWC scholars, covering essential costs such as tuition and accommodation.

Congratulations to the 2021 UWC scholarship recipients, Sheala Reid and Lily McGrath.

Literacy is for Everyone

Literacy is for Everyone (“LIFE”) is an independent charitable organisation committed to improving the education and literacy of over 2,700 primary school children in the Cayman Islands. In 2021, we established a new three-year partnership with the non-profit organisation that will help LIFE raise literacy levels in the Cayman Islands.

LITERACY IS FOR EVERYONE

We are deeply grateful to the Maples Group for entrusting LIFE with this threeyear funding commitment and for their continued support. These are strange times in which to operate, but now our work is more important than ever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands (“BBBS”) provides invaluable community-based and in-school mentorship opportunities. An impact study of BBBS showed that Little Brothers and Little Sisters of the programme were more confident in school, got along better with their families, were 52% less likely to skip school, 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs and 25% less likely to begin using alcohol.

Through our donation, we were able to support the organisation in screening, training and matching 60 new volunteers, sustaining 20 existing matches, assisting with the costs for monthly group events for “Bigs” and “Littles” and enabling BBBS to host four parent and family workshops.

Children and Youth Services Foundation

We are frequent supporters of the Children and Youth Services Foundation (“CAYS”), and our latest donation in 2021 went toward the refurbishment of bathrooms, the replacement of the group therapy room furniture, new mattresses for the children and a full-service power generator for the Frances Bodden Children’s Home and Bonaventure Boys Home, which are operated by CAYS.

Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands

Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands, in partnership with the Department of Children and Family Services, launched their Put Your Best Foot Forward initiative in 2015 to help provide local children with school shoes.

In 2021, we were pleased to once again sponsor this programme that helped to purchase shoes for over 160 children.
