RECYCLING IN THE PARKS

In an effort to reduce trash and promote recycling, the City of Maplewood now offers recycling in our parks. Look for the blue bins and do your part in helping keep our parks clean!

•Fees are due at the time of reservation and are required to reserve a picnic shelter. Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and America Express credit cards are accepted.

•The shelter permit and building key (if applicable) must be picked up the business day before the rental date and returned to the Maplewood Parks & Rec Office the following business day. Park buildings and shelters are limited to use by rental applicant and party only.

•Damage deposit (if required) is due at the time the rental permit is issued. Damage deposit check should be written out to Maplewood Parks & Recreation. The damage deposit will be forfeited if damage is done to the interior of the park building and/ or the key is not returned on the following business day after the rental.

•Place all trash in appropriate receptacles. We offer recycling in our parks! Please recycle your cans and bottles in an effort to reduce waste and protect the environment. Additional trash and recycling containers are available with an advance request.

CANCELLATION POLICY

No cancellations due to inclement weather. All other cancellations must be received four weeks prior to rental.

Organized tournaments and food sales are not allowed in our parks without prior approval and obtaining proper permits.

Gladstone Savanna is located on the SW corner of Frost and English.

In 2011, Maplewood developed and approved a master plan for the Gladstone Savanna Neighborhood Preserve. The plan integrated the site’s railroad history, soil remediation, stormwater management, natural resources, and passive and active (playground) recreation.

Since improvements began in 2012, the trail system is complete, the restored native prairie is flourishing, and a brand new playground opened in 2017!

COMMUNITY GYM PARTY PACKAGES

Looking for somewhere to have a party or just get together with friends for some fun? We offer partygoers equipment to play volleyball, basketball, soccer, floor hockey, football, and other activities. Have a game or activity that you would like to play? Bring it with! Must be approved by gym monitor. This is a great option for adult outings, family gatherings, birthday parties, and more! For parties we allow light decorating of the area during your scheduled rental time and we’ll have tables set up when you arrive for gifts, cake or pizza and have the gym ready for fun. Call 651-249-2121 to book or to ask any questions. *Rental requests must be made at least 10 days prior to the 1st of the month in which the rental will take place. FREE SUMMER MOVIE NIGHTS AT BRUENTRUP FARM

It’s May, spring is in the air, summer is around the corner, and that means it’s time to start planning those perfect family outings. Maplewood Parks & Recreation is offering two family movie nights, June 26 and August 14, at the Bruentrup Farm. Movie selections are made by an open vote. Visit the movie night event page on Maplewood Parks & Recreation’s Facebook to cast your vote for the August movie. The movie selection for August 14 will be available until July 6th featuring the following movie options: Coco, Cars 3, Paddington 2, and The Lorax

These special nights are about more than just movies. The beautiful grounds open at 5:30 p.m. and there will be games, food and drinks for purchase, picnic areas, activity stations for kids, and a delightful petting zoo. Activities run until 7:30 p.m. and the movies begin rolling at 6:30 p.m. Seating in the barn for movies is limited and movies are shown rain or shine. The Bruentrup Farm is located at 2170 County Road D East.

AT PLAYCREST PARK MONDAYS, JULY 9 - AUGUST 13 Hit, run, and throw your way into fun with Lil’ Sluggers! Lil’ Sluggers is a nationwide company that teaches the fundamental skills of baseball and softball to the littlest athletes in a fun and positive environment. The program is designed to prepare the littlest athletes into their journey of organized team play by improving and developing their social and physical skills both on and off the field.

Sluggers will learn how to throw, field, catch, hit, and run the bases.

Program will build upon the skills learned in previous sessions. Cost is $55.00.

The 3v3 format for ages 4-6, and 4v4 format for ages 7-9, will provide for more touches, increased playing time, and most important more fun! This program is six weeks in length and will be played Mondays or Wednesdays with the groups being split between the days. The sessions will be a combination of skill development/instruction and game play. An adult volunteer will be needed for each team. Cost is $65.00. Register by August 24.

COST FOR ALL CLASSES IS $50.00 Class options build upon each other. If your child fits into multiple age classes and you are unsure of what class to register them for, register them for the lower class.

TUMBLING TOTS CLASS OPTIONS TOTS 1 - INTRO

This class is for children ages 9 months - 3 years, who have little to no experience in tumbling. This class will include log rolls, forward rolls, climbing, crawling, running and jumping. Equipment will consist of small beams, low bars, mats, and foam courses.

TOTS 2 - BEGINNER

This class is for children ages 2 - 4 years. This class will include forward and backwards rolls, handstands, cartwheels, building skills with balance, crawling, running and jumping. Equipment will consist of low and high beams, low bars, mats, and foam courses.

TOTS 3 - ADVANCED

This class is for children ages 3 - 5 years. This class will teach the skills that enable increasing flexibility, and prepare them for the Gymnastics program. We perform splits & bridges, handstands & cartwheels, and build on skills with running and jumping.

AT EDGERTON AND AFTON PARK FIELDS SUNDAYS, JUNE 10 - AUGUST 5 (NO CLASS JULY 1) 4 - 5 YEARS: Always hit off a tee 6 - 8 YEARS: Opportunity to hit coach pitch, then hit off a tee Cost is $65.00 The t-ball program is designed to teach the fundamentals of baseball to girls and boys. We work with Lil’ Sluggers, who provide a field coach for each game and emphasize individual growth, cooperation, fair play and having fun! The ages are split to provide better program tailoring for more progressive skill development along the way. All games are played as controlled scrimmages, no score is kept, and we use a ball designed for safety and confidence.

There will be 20-25 minutes of practice time led by the Lil’ Sluggers coach with each team’s parent coach(s) working with their team, followed by 40-45 minutes of game play. During the game play, the Lil’ Sluggers coach will help with proper positioning, encouragement and general game help. The parent coaches will still set the lineup, manage the players’ position, play time and rotation, base coaching etc. Register by May 29.

This program is designed to work on strength, conditioning, flexibility, problem solving and coordination as they overcome the obstacles designed for their skill level. This is a great way for kids to experience many different sports, keep them active, and allow them to have fun with others in a structured and organized camp, regardless of skill level or previous knowledge. This full day camp is sure to be a bright spot of the participants’ summer! Snack will be served in the afternoon. Additional snacks available for purchase (chips, candy, Gatorade, water, pop). BRING: Lunch, gym clothes, and tennis shoes. Cost: $160.00.

These camps will provide a longer training session to focus directly on establishing better skills in passing, setting, hitting and learn good court movement. The camp will also increase a player’s volleyball knowledge of real game situations to help prepare them to play in a team setting.

This is a great opportunity to prepare a volleyball player for the upcoming season. *Knee Pads Required* Cost is $80.00

Boys and girls will play in separate leagues according to their grade level. The 3rd and 4th grade division will play their games with 9-foot baskets to provide a positive and rewarding experience for the participant, while 5th-8th grade divisions will use regulation 10-foot baskets. Games are played Saturday mornings and afternoons beginning in early December and concluding in early March. Teams will have one practice night per week during the season. Teams will begin practice in November. Cost is $135.00 per participant. Register by October 19.

Wish Upon a Ballet is a dance program for children that incorporates popular children’s stories as well as ballet stories to create a dance class that is more than ballet steps. Using musical instruments, parachutes and scarves we will create a complete fairy tale experience while we skip, leap, jump and spin. This way, an introduction to the movements and vocabulary of ballet are taught in a fun and creative manner. Children will learn an appreciation of dance and music while developing strength and flexibility. Parents, family and friends will be invited to observe a special performance at the end of each session. Come join the fun! Girls and boys will need ballet shoes. Join experts, in partnership with Friends of Maplewood Nature and Great River Greening, for hands-on learning in the field. Learn about the importance of species diversity and how you can help protect nature. Will you see an eagle, a dragonfly, or a snake? Who knows? Anything goes! Use field guides, sweep nets, insect jars, binoculars, and clipboards to help generate a Fish Creek species list. Equipment will be available for use or feel free to bring your own. Surveys will be off trail. Long pants, closed toe footwear, and tall socks are highly recommended. A light refreshment will be provided.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT MAPLEWOOD PARKS & REC? ADOPT - A- PARK

The goal of the Adopt-A-Park Program is to provide an opportunity for interested parties to take part in maintaining our parks system. Providing this opportunity not only encourages and promotes community involvement, but also allows us to beautify and improve our parks. All Adopt-A-Park projects should aim towards benefiting the majority of park users. This opportunity is available to any individual, family, resident, group organization, or business that is eager to help beautify our parks. The Adopt-A-Park commitment period is from April 1 – October 31. Applications are accepted throughout the year and require a minimum of once a month dedication.

ADULT ATHLETIC SIGN SPONSORSHIP

The adult athletic sign sponsorship is a unique marketing opportunity for local businesses. Maplewood Parks & Recreation has started an outfield sign program at Veteran’s Memorial Park (formerly Goodrich). This is an opportunity to purchase one, two, or three 4’ x 8’ outfield signs that are visible from the softball fields as well as North St. Paul Road. Veteran’s Memorial Park houses the entire adult softball program (summer, fall and late fall leagues) and hosts multiple youth tournaments throughout the season. The funds from these sponsorships will go directly to maintaining and upgrading this facility, keeping the fields suitable for the high level of play they receive.

This non-profit organization works to promote, support and enhance the growth of the Maplewood Nature Center and Neighborhood Preserves. You can support Friends of Maplewood Nature with your membership fees, 1-time-donations, purchase of Neighborhood Preserve Calendars, by participating in the Photo Contest, or volunteering on the Friends Board!

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Youth Scholarship Fund serves Maplewood residents (under 18 years) who demonstrate a financial need and may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in recreation programs. Qualifying families are asked to pay 1/3 of the program fee and the scholarship fund covers the remaining 2/3 of the fee. Sponsorship of our scholarship program is a great way to show your support for Maplewood Parks & Recreation and the community. Your contribution will make a huge difference in the lives of our participants and enable them to build a positive and healthy lifestyle through recreational programming. Please consider making a donation to the scholarship program and making “wellness, arts, and fun for everyone” a reality for our Maplewood youth.

JR. POLAR FOOTBALL

Jr. Polar Football is a volunteer youth sports organization committed to building teamwork, understanding the fundamentals of the game, developing skills, encouraging sportsmanship and most importantly having fun playing football.

The program is open to residents that live within or attend school (public or private) within the geographic boundary of North St. Paul - Maplewood - Oakdale and is part of the North St. Paul Athletic Association. The football program is open to all youth. The goal of the football program is to encourage sportsmanship and to teach the fundamentals of football. Flag Football is available to boys & girls entering Kindergarten up to 2nd grade. Tackle football begins in 3rd grade and continues through 8th grade. MAPLEWOOD AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Maplewood Area Historical Society and the Bruentrup Heritage Farm is located on 2.5 acres of land with nine buildings that date back to 1891. It is surrounded on two sides by a 22-acre prairie maintained as open space by the City of Maplewood. The Farm is used for public events and exhibits and can be rented for private events such as weddings. It is our mission to promote, provide and teach soccer in the “Spirit of the Game.” FUN, FAIRNESS and SAFETY. We provide traveling soccer for players; boys and girls ages 9-19. We try to provide the best competition for all players at their level of play. Our traveling soccer teams compete against other soccer clubs from communities in the East Metro Area. Travel distances are within 15-45 minutes from Maplewood. We are also proud to partner with Maplewood Parks and Rec for their fall recreation league; providing coach clinics, weekly skills sessions and certified referees to the program. NORTH POLARS FASTPITCH

The North Polars Fastpitch Association (NPFA) is a non-profit organization established to foster the girl’s fastpitch softball program in the area of Independent School District 622, which is within the boundaries of North St. Paul High School. This includes all or portions of the communities of North St. Paul, Maplewood, Lake Elmo and Oakdale. The association exists to fulfill the girl’s fastpitch softball needs of the community and is the primary advocate of the traveling program. The association supports good sportsmanship and the sound development of softball fundamentals within the community, to ensure that girls participating in the program will have a positive and rewarding experience that will maximize personal and team growth. The association requires quality coaching and provides an atmosphere for learning softball skills for both coaches and players.
