RECYCLING IN THE PARKS

In an effort to reduce trash and promote recycling, the City of Maplewood now offers recycling in our parks. Look for the blue bins and do your part in helping keep our parks clean!

The City of Maplewood has picnic facilities at several of our parks. There is a fee, and some shelters require a $100.00 damage deposit to reserve the shelter. Picnic shelters not listed are a “first come, first served” shelter for regular usage by patrons. This does not apply to large organized events. NO outside use of bounce houses/inflatables is allowed in any of our parks. For a full list of reservable shelters visit www.maplewoodmn.gov/pr and select picnic shelters. HOW DO I RESERVE A PICNIC SHELTER?

•Email gina.kuchenmeister@maplewoodmn.gov or call 651.249.2120 for availability and to reserve a shelter. Details to include in the request: name of the shelter you are interested in, event date and time, number of attendees, and the intended use of the shelter. •Fees are due at the time of reservation and are required to reserve the picnic shelter. •The shelter permit and building key (if applicable) must be picked up the business day before the rental date and returned to the Maplewood Parks & Recreation Department the following business day. Park buildings and shelters are limited to use by rental applicant and party only. •Damage deposit is due at the time the rental permit is issued. The damage deposit will be forfeited if damage is done to the interior of the park building and/or the key is not returned on the following business day after the rental. •Place all trash in appropriate trash receptacles. We offer recycling in our parks! Please recycle your cans and bottles in an effort to reduce waste and protect the environment. Additional trash and recycling containers are available with an advance request.

CANCELLATION POLICY

No cancellations due to inclement weather. All other cancellations must be received four weeks prior to rental. Organized tournaments and food sales are not allowed in our parks without prior approval and obtaining proper permits. PARK HOURS: 5:00AM - 10:00PM

COMMUNITY GYM PARTY PACKAGES

Looking for somewhere to have a party or just get together with friends for some fun? We offer partygoers equipment to play volleyball, basketball, soccer, floor hockey, football, and other activities. Have a game or activity that you would like to play? Bring it with! Must be approved by gym monitor. This is a great option for adult outings, family gatherings, birthday parties, and more! For parties we allow light decorating of the area during your scheduled rental time and we’ll have tables set up when you arrive for gifts, cake or pizza and have the gym ready for fun. LIL’ SLUGGERS PRESCHOOL BASEBALL/SOFTBALL CAMP (AGES 2-7)

AT GETHSEMANE FIELDS DATES: JUNE 17 - JUNE 20 New to baseball/softball or looking for activities for your slugger for the summer? We are offering a week-long camp with age specific sessions for players of all abilities. Camp will run Monday – Thursday with Friday as a weather make-up if needed. Beginning players will learn the basics of hitting, throwing, fielding and running while more advanced players will participate in the same drills but with additional emphasis on mechanics and fundamentals. Most of all, participants should look forward to learning and having FUN! A short break will be incorporated to do a small craft or read a story. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt and a certificate of participation. Parents are encouraged to participate, especially at the younger levels. Spots are limited and sessions fill quickly. The 3v3 format for ages 4-6, and 4v4 format for ages 7-9 will provide for more touches, increased playing time, and most importantly more fun! This program is six weeks in length and will be played Mondays or Wednesdays with the groups being split between the days. Wish Upon a Ballet is a dance program for children that incorporates popular children’s stories as well as ballet stories to create a dance class that is more than ballet steps. Using musical instruments, parachutes and scarves we will create a complete fairy tale experience while we skip, leap, jump and spin. This way, an introduction to the movements and vocabulary of ballet are taught in a fun and creative manner. Children will learn an appreciation of dance and music while developing strength and flexibility. Parents, family and friends will be invited to observe a special performance at the end of each session. Come join the fun! Girls and boys will need ballet shoes. Girls should wear a leotard and tights. Boys should wear comfortable clothes they can move around in. Shoes will be available to order on the first day of class for an extra fee. Students must be potty trained. Cost is $70.00.

Looking for a more in-depth ballet class without losing creativity and fun? This class is your answer! We will use the Wish Upon a Ballet curriculum but go even further into specific ballet technique. Your children will not only think it is fun but will improve posture, strength and flexibility in a positive and self-esteem building atmosphere. Dance is proven to not only build strong bodies but strong minds and selfesteem as well! This class is for beginners as well as students with previous dance experience. Ballet shoes are required. Cost is $70.00.

Get into the Groove! Our dance classes will be sure to keep students active. Learn upbeat styles such as jazz and hip hop and move to your favorite songs. The students will also learn warm-ups such as stretching, isolations and across the floor exercises! Come learn to leap, turn and shine. This class is not only fun but will improve posture, strength and flexibility in a positive and self-esteem building atmosphere. Ballet or jazz shoes are required. Cost is $70.00.

This class is for children ages 4 - 5 years. This structured class will include somersaults, cartwheels, intro to back and front walk-overs and increasing flexibility. Equipment will consist of small beams, low bars, mats, and foam courses.

This class is for children ages 5 - 7 years. This structured class will include vaulting, basic leaps and turns on high beams, independent routines, one handed cartwheels, and flipping. We will be rotating on bars and improving balance and flexibility. Equipment will consist of low and high beams, low bars, mats, and foam courses.

Maplewood Parks and Recreation is working with North East United Soccer Club (NEU) to offer a Fall co-ed recreational soccer league. In this introductory league, teams will have one practice and one game per week making this a great option for a busy family. Participants will have the opportunity to work with our local NEU soccer club coaches. This partnership provides quality coaching to not only the kids but also the parent volunteer coaches for their teams. Call 651.249.2111 to register.

AT EDGERTON AND AFTON FIELDS (possibly other various parks based on need) SUNDAYS, JUNE 9 - JULY 28 4 - 5 YEARS: Always hit off a tee 6 - 8 YEARS: Opportunity to hit coach pitch, then hit off a tee Cost is $65.00 The t-ball program is designed to teach the fundamentals of baseball to girls and boys. We work with Lil’ Sluggers, who provide a field coach for each game and emphasize individual growth, cooperation, fair play and having fun! The ages are split to provide better program tailoring for more progressive skill development along the way. All games are played as controlled scrimmages, no score is kept, and we use a ball designed for safety and confidence. There will be 20-25 minutes of practice time led by the Lil’ Sluggers coach with each team’s parent coach(s) working with their team, followed by 40-45 minutes of game play. During the game play, the Lil’ Sluggers coach will help with proper positioning, encouragement and general game help. The parent coaches will still set the lineup, manage the players’ position, play time and rotation, base coaching etc. If interested in volunteer coaching, please indicate so during the registration process or contact the League Director at 651-249-2204

The Ninja Warrior Summer Camp is for YOU! This week long camp is perfect for the ninjas in your family to come and play around on obstacles while learning technique and staying active! Made for kids wanting to be a Ninja Warrior!! This program is designed to work on strength, conditioning, flexibility, problem solving and coordination as they overcome the obstacles designed for their skill level. They will run obstacle courses, play games and have a ton of FUN, of course!! Campers depart from the Maplewood Community Center/YMCA at 9:00AM and return at approx 12:00PM. Cost is $150.00. This is a great way for kids to experience many different sports, keep them active, and allow them to have fun with others in a structured and organized camp, regardless of skill level or previous knowledge. This full day camp is sure to be a bright spot of the participants’ summer! Snack will be served in the afternoon. Additional snacks are available for purchase (chips, candy, Gatorade, water, pop). BRING: Lunch, gym clothes, and tennis shoes. Cost: $160.00.

AT VARIOUS SCHOOL LOCATIONS IN VARIOUS COMMUNITIES SATURDAYS, EARLY DECEMBER - EARLY MARCH This recreational program is for girls and boys grades 3-8 (as of the 2019-2020 school year) and is designed to provide all participants with an opportunity to have fun, learn basic basketball skills and learn how to play as a team. Boys and girls will play in separate leagues according to their grade level. Teams will play other teams from Little Canada, Oakdale, Mendota Heights, Cottage Grove, Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi and MORE! The 3rd and 4th grade division will play their games with 9-foot baskets to provide a positive and rewarding experience for the participant, while the 5th-8th grade divisions will use regulation 10-foot baskets. Games are played Saturday mornings and afternoons beginning in early December and concluding in early March. Teams will have one practice night per week during the season. Teams will begin practice in November. Cost is $135.00 per participant. Register by October 18.

Maplewood Nature Center is a 40-acre preserve operated by the City of Maplewood. The goal of the Adopt-A-Park Program is to provide an opportunity for interested parties to take part in maintaining our parks system. Providing this opportunity not only encourages and promotes community involvement, but also allows us to beautify and improve our parks. All Adopt-A-Park projects should aim towards benefiting the majority of park users. This opportunity is available to any individual, family, resident, group organization, or business that is eager to help beautify our parks. The Adopt-A-Park commitment period is from April 1 – October 31. Applications are accepted throughout the year and require a minimum of once a month dedication.

ADULT ATHLETIC SIGN SPONSORSHIP

The adult athletic sign sponsorship is a unique marketing opportunity for local businesses. Maplewood Parks & Recreation has started an outfield sign program at Veteran’s Memorial Park (formerly Goodrich). This is an opportunity to purchase one, two, or three 4’ x 8’ outfield signs that are visible from the softball fields as well as North St. Paul Road. Veteran’s Memorial Park houses the entire adult softball program (summer and fall leagues) and hosts multiple youth tournaments throughout the season. The funds from these sponsorships will go directly to maintaining and upgrading this facility, keeping the fields suitable for the high level of play they receive.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Youth Scholarship Fund serves Maplewood residents (under 18 years) who demonstrate a financial need and may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in recreation programs. Qualifying families are asked to pay 1/3 of the program fee and the scholarship fund covers the remaining 2/3 of the fee. Sponsorship of our scholarship program is a great way to show your support for Maplewood Parks & Recreation and the community. Your contribution will make a huge difference in the lives of our participants and enable them to build a positive and healthy lifestyle through recreational programming. JOHNSON COMO NORTH ST. PAUL HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (JCNSP)

The mission of the Johnson Como North St. Paul Hockey Association (JCNSP) is to empower all players with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for success through the principles of fair play and good sportsmanship in the game of hockey. This program’s goal is to form a competitive hockey association that will host traveling hockey teams. To accomplish this mission, the coaches will emphasize individual player skills and team skills, in an environment in which youth players can learn the basic skills and rules of ice hockey, master these skills and have fun while developing a lifelong interest in hockey. The Maplewood Area Historical Society and the Bruentrup Heritage Farm is located on 2.5 acres of land with nine buildings that date back to 1891. It is surrounded on two sides by a 22-acre prairie maintained as open space by the City of Maplewood. The North Polars Fastpitch Association (NPFA) is a non-profit organization established to foster the girl’s fastpitch softball program in the area of Independent School District 622, which is within the boundaries of North St. Paul High School. This includes all or portions of the communities of North St. Paul, Maplewood, Lake Elmo and Oakdale. The association exists to fulfill the girl’s fastpitch softball needs of the community and is the primary advocate of the traveling program. The association supports good sportsmanship and the sound development of softball fundamentals within the community, to ensure that girls participating in the program will have a positive and rewarding experience that will maximize personal and team growth. The association requires quality coaching and provides an atmosphere for learning softball skills for both coaches and players.
