Pike County Conservation District

131 North Kelly Street, Ste. C | Murfreesboro, Arkansas 71958 870-285-2424 GENERAL INFORMATION Pike County was designated a county by the Territorial Legislature on November 1, 1833. The county was named in honor of the explorer, Lieutenant Zebulon Pike. The present county seat was first named for Zebulon but was changed to Murfreesboro about 1836 by a group of settlers who migrated from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Murfreesboro is located in the southwest part of the county near the Little Missouri River. Pike County is located in southwest Arkansas. Total surface area is 392,755 acres, of which 383,027 acres is land and 9,728 acres is large water area (Lake Greeson). The northern two-third of the county is in the Ouachita Mountain land resource area, the southern one-third in the Forestal 131 Coastal PlainKelly land resource is bounded by Montgomery County to the North Street,area.
