With far too little time and always too much to do, it’s easy to overlook all of the amazing people, places, talents, and resources our community provides to us all. And yet it’s there for the taking, if only we would stop for a moment and take a fresh look around. Along with all of the remarkable businesses we spotlight who have earned our coveted “Best of Canby” awards over the years, there are also hundreds of other, special enterprises and business owners providing invaluable, irreplaceable and vital goods and services for us all every day of the year.

It’s always amazed me how I will pass by some storefront or sign daily for months, even years, and never notice what that business is offering until suddenly I’m in need of a package drop-off spot or have a bike that needs repairing. Then, suddenly, I’ll have one of those “ah hah” moments when I realize, “I’ll be darned. There was a bike shop all along on the corner of that street I’ve walked down every day for all this time, but I never noticed it until now!” They say the basic premise of smart marketing is to find the need and fill it. In a way, Canby does that for us brilliantly. Our wonderful community offers us pretty much anything we might need in order to live a good, satisfying, and quality life, and yet, unless we take the time, all of those hidden treasures will remain undiscovered until the need appears, and we take a moment to look for the answer to solve the problem we’ve suddenly found ourselves wrestling with. Perhaps the way to resolve this is to try something new each week. Drive down an unfamiliar street you’ve never driven down before on the way home or headed to the market and look around at what might be there. Or walk instead of drive if the errand is manageable on your feet. It’s amazing the things we can notice while strolling. Maybe ask a colleague or friend if they can recommend a local Canby service that you’ve tended in the past to go elsewhere to complete on today’s to-do list. Finally, ask us! A caring nature and love of neighbor have been signatures of this church, and they believe it’s because those are signatures of the people of Canby. They have been honored to work alongside other churches and hand-inhand with The Canby Center over the years. They have also developed a special bond with Canby’s Fire and Police Departments and other community leaders. Their Senior Pastor, Ron Swor, is on the Fire Board, and the Canby Foursquare staff has helped facilitate community outreaches, city-wide communication, and other events throughout the years. They are grateful for the generosity shown by the people of their church to the community and for the trust and support shown by the community to the church. Showing the love of Jesus during church services is important to them. Taking it beyond their four walls is, too. “Blessed” is a powerful word. In 2017, after nearly 50 years as a Chef and restaurateur, Bill King and his family opened King’s Farm to Table, a farm stand and “microfarm” in Stafford.
