FESTIVAL IN PARK 214
Across from the park is the home of the Silverton Arts Association and Borland Gallery. The month of August we will have a retrospective of the works of local artist Larry Kassell. Sadly, we lost Larry to cancer recently. We appreciate the family allowing us to honor him with this exhibit. Larry generously provided the graphics for our Festival poster this year. He has also done several murals on the buildings of Silverton. We hope you take the time to visit the gallery and appreciate his work. If you would like to make a weekend of it, the Oregon Garden Resort is nearby. You can relax with a spa treatment or walk through 80 acres of beautiful gardens. You can also stay in the heart of downtown at the Silverton Inn & Suites or several of our Bed & Breakfast options. Meander the streets to shop and dine, take a walking tour of the many murals that reflect the history of the town and visit other fine art galleries. Whether you enjoy antiques, shopping, soaking in culture or nature, the city of Silverton has much to offer on Festival Weekend. The proceeds of our Festival support the non-profit Silverton Arts Association in their mission to promote art education through its Art-based Preschool and art classes for children and adults. If you are interested in any classes, becoming a member, or in any other projects involving SAA, visit our website at www.silvertonarts.org or like us on Facebook.
Roth’s North Lot
There are three parking lots for the festival. Special trolleys pick up from parking lots and select stops from 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
Nestled in the shade of oak trees in Silverton’s CoolidgeMcClaine Park, the festival brings together 85 fine artists each with their own unique talent. Stroll through the booths and experience the colors and textures of art in the park. Visit our demonstration area where several artists ply their trade and witness the time and effort that goes into the pieces. Let the children explore their creative side at the children’s activity area. Then find respite under the canopy where you can enjoy beer and wine and listen to talented local musicians. The Silverton Poetry Association will also have interesting events throughout the park.
Silverton is a uniquely wonderful town and a weekend enjoying what we have to offer is well worth the trip. I guarantee you’ll be back! – Robin Mallory, SAA President

Gervais, OR • 2D ART www.larymckee.com
ABOUT THE POSTER ARTIST Lary has been a full time artist, since 1972. After a devastating auto accident in 2009 that impaired his body from the neck down, he has only recently learned to begin to paint once again. Having acute dyslexia for most of his life, it is impossible for him to retain an image… even when it is right in front of him as he is painting. He has learned to study an object for a few seconds, then at a later date the image will come to him in his memory. He can see the whole painting finished. Current subjects include Whimsical Frogs, Whimsical Contemprorary, Florals, and Contemporary/ Realistic Art. He has written and illustrated four children’s books since 2014: At Perfect Pond, Into the Great Forest, The Farmhouse, and the forthcoming Finding Frog Valley.

Judee moonbeam studio The Silverton Poetry Association
(SPA) booth will again feature an exhibit of Ekphrastic poetry – poems inspired by works of art. This year SPA will distribute poems specifically written to describe art works featured at the 2016 Fine Arts Festival. Locate and identify the art work and artist described in the poem and win a prize! A longstanding festival tradition, SPA will also exhibit “poetrees” – poems posted on trees throughout the park festival area. Some of these will feature famous works of art and corresponding poetry. SPA will also offer prompts and materials for festival visitors to do their own writing on works of art viewed at the festival. The mission of the Silverton Poetry Association is to celebrate and further the art of poetry by sponsoring readings, classes and workshops, open mic readings, publications, and other events and initiatives in our community. SPA hosts a regionally popular annual Poetry Festival every February. For more information, see the SPA website: www.silvertonpoetry.net
