Beautifully preserved historic buildings are home to a medley of boutique galleries, antique shops, creekside restaurants and cafés, a legendary cinema, and plenty of places to sample craft beer and regional wines. People flow from one downtown business to the next on the evening of the “First Friday” of each month to mingle, dine, drink, and see the new art exhibits.

Silverton Oregon’s Garden City

The botanical beauty of the Willamette Valley and the Northwest is on display at this 80-acre experience with 20 specialty gardens, an educational Rediscovery Forest, wetland habitats, outdoor art, events, and a 400-year-old oak grove. There’s something to see all-year round.

Tram tours run every 30 minutes (from April – October) for $4 per person (free for children under four).

Mount Angel Village of the Bells

With hazelnut and hop fields in the distance, clock and church towers chime the time of day in this Bavarianstyle village. Complete with thematic architecture and authentic cuisine (especially sausage), Mount Angel is proud of its Germanic roots, relationship with faith, and is renowned for its annual Oktoberfest. Step Back in Time

Silverton Country Historical Society & Museum

Preserving the region's history inside the 1908 Ames-WarnockBurch House and adjacent train depot. Original cartoons by local “country boy” and William Randolph Hearst’s top cartoonist, Homer Davenport, are part of the collection. The grounds also offer a World War II lookout post and the stump of Silverton’s original old oak tree, from the center of town.

Silverton Commercial Historic District

Pick up a self-guided walking tour map of downtown’s historic buildings at the Chamber Visitor Center, 426 S. Water St. and look out for the Historical Society’s free-standing markers with laser-etched archival images giving you a chance to compare the past with the present.

Hemmed in by prairies, hills, and creeks, the beautiful terrain that encompasses Silverton, Mount Angel, and nearby Scotts Mills was called “Silverton Country” by the pioneers that settled this area.

Our communities are conscious of the past and dedicated to preserving it for future generations to appreciate.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House

Open to pre-registered tours at 12, 1 and 2 p.m., see website for days. Adults: $20; youth: $5; accompanied minors 11 and under are free.

This house was conceived by Wright as an example of his “Usonian” design in 1957, and built in the Wilsonville area in 1964 for Evelyn & Conrad Gordon. The house was rescued from demolition and moved to Silverton next to the Oregon Garden. It stands as the only Wright building in Oregon, and one of the few in the Northwest open to the public.

Gallon House Bridge

Gallon House Road, connects Downs and Hobart Roads, between Silverton and Mount Angel.

Built in 1916, this is one of Oregon’s oldest covered bridges and the only one in Marion County you can still drive through. This pleasant spot on Abiqua Creek was near a moonshining operation – a “gallon house.”

18 stained glass windows were crafted by the Kokomo Stain Glass Factory of Indiana and were installed in this church in 1919.

Mount Angel Abbey

Mount Angel takes its name from Engelberg, Switzerland – the homeland of the Benedictine monks that settled on a nearby butte in the 1880s. A monastery and seminary has been operated by the monks ever since. The campus has a church, coffee & bookshop, a retreat center, and there’s the Abbey’s popular brewery just a short walk down the hill. History and culture-enthusiasts should visit the Abbey’s museum, with a diverse assortment of natural history specimens and artifacts from around the world –including a few notable oddities. Also, don’t miss the famous library designed by renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.

Mount Angel’s Glockenspiel

The largest glockenspiel in the U.S. comes to life, expressing the history of Mount Angel through locally-produced music and near-life size wooden carvings of important local characters.

This classic, restored 1936 Art Deco landmark shows first-run motion pictures, the largest single-screen cinema in the county. Offers general seating and three rows of premium recliner seats.

Since the late 19th Century, artists of all disciplines have called Silverton and Mount Angel home. This immersive environment provided a launch for political cartoonist Homer Davenport, a landscape for photographer June Drake, and even Clark Gable passed through in his early days. Today, many creative guilds, studios and shops give the towns their style and sense of creative fun today. Plus, the very walls of Silverton’s buildings have been turned into canvases...

This 1933 public fountain was restored in 2018 by volunteers with scenes depicting Oregon’s beauty rendered in mosaic tile pieced together by volunteers.

Bobbie's House

A recreation of Bobbie, the Scotch collie that walked home to Silverton from Indiana in 1924 – and his dog house.

Labyrinths

There are two meditative labyrinths in the area, artfully constructed for mindful participants. Both are open to the public.

Silverton’s Murals

Since 1992, the Silverton Mural Society has given open walls of Silverton an extra splash of life. The murals are painted and maintained by local and regional artists, and depict colorful personalities from Silverton’s adventurous history like cartoonist Homer Davenport, astronaut Don Pettit, and Bobbie the Wonder Dog. The Mr. and Mrs. Claus-themed mural even has a mailbox to the North Pole.

Oktoberfest Joy Fountain

Convergence of Main Street and Hwy. 214 in Mount Angel

Dedicated in 1998 to the youth of Mount Angel, this bronze statue captures two Bavarian children’s harvest-time merriment above a fountain right in the middle of town. The fountain is maintained by Mt. Angel Chamber volunteers.

The Maibaum (May Pole)

5 N. Garfield St., Mount Angel

This tall structure is a “Tree of Trades” with each branch representing an aspect of Mount Angel’s working identity... from church to medicine, dairy cows to golf clubs. The trunk is painted Bavarian white and blue.

Silver Falls State Park

Oregon’s largest state park is located just 14 miles upstream from Silverton Reservoir.

The Trail of Ten Falls is a moderate seven mile hike. The tallest single waterfall is South Falls at 177 feet. There are over 30 miles of additional trails to hike, bike, or ride by horse. The South Falls Lodge is a cozy, historic gem.

Abiqua Falls

An impressive and remote geologi cal formation with a 90+ ft. water fall. Access is mildly treacherous with limited signage. Research and plan this excursion carefully, as driving to trailhead may be difficult.

300 Coolidge St. Named for two of Silverton’s early enterpreneurs, this historic city park is adjacent to Silver Creek and features playground, picnic tables, barbecues, and recently restored splash fountain. The Lions Club Pavilion – with full kitchen – is available to rent for events.

Old Mill Park & East Bank Trail

412 S. Water St. The Fischer flour mill once stood behind Silver Falls Library on the banks of Silver Creek. Now there is a peaceful, riparian green space with an all-abilities playground and easy access to the pool, library and museum. A pleasant trail follows the creek, meandering 1/4 mile to “Salamander Island.”

Town Square Park 101 Fiske St. Set in the center of town, this is a great place for small children to romp on the grass. There is a footbridge crossing the creek and the Freedom Memorial Plaza honors Silverton’s fallen heroes.
