Call To Worship Leader: As we celebrate the birth of our nation in the midst of our troubles, we cry out aloud to God. People: God always hears our cries and responds to our needs. Leader: God brings us up out of our trouble and sets us in a safe place. People: God comforts and restores our souls. Leader: Despite all our difficulties, distresses, and dilemmas the Lord has turned our mourning into dancing! People: So, let us rejoice not because it is the 4th of July but because we serve a God that has clothed our troubles with hope and joy! 3

#569 O Beautiful for Spacious Skies (America the Beautiful) Katharine Lee Bates/Samuel A. Ward

1. O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For a purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea. 2. O beautiful for pilgrim feet, Whose stern, impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law. 3. O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife, Who more than self their country loved, And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine, Till all success be nobleness, And every gain divine. 4. O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam, Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to 4 shining sea.

Luke 10:38-42 New Living Translation

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one true thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” 5

Summary Of The Decalogue The Congregation, Rise and Sings:

“From all that dwell below the skies, let the Creator’s praise arise; let the Redeemer’s name be sung, through every land by every tongue.” The Minister Says:

Hear what Christ our Saviour saith, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all my mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. THE GLORIA PATRI The Congregation, Rise and Sings:

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.” 6

#572 Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory (Battle Hymn of the Republic) Julia Ward Howe

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lighting of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on, Refrain Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded Him and altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. Refrain Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of me before His judgement seat; O be swift, my soul, to answer Him; be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on. Refrain Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make me holy, let us die to make men free! Our God is marching on. Refrain Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! Glory! glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

#258 Just as I Am, Without One Plea Charlotte Elliott/William B. Bradbury

1. Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! 2. Just as I am, and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot, To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! 3. Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! 4. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I 13 come!

Holy Communion The Call to Communion to be made by the Minister

You that do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbor, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways, draw near with faith and take the holy sacrament to your comfort, and make your humble confession to Almighty God. The General Confession to be made by the Minister and people

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all people , we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word, and deed against your divine majesty, provoking most justly your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful God for your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 14

Prayer of Consecration to be made by the Minister Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who of your tender mercy did give your only son, Jesus Christ, to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, who made there by his oblation of himself, once offered, a full perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and did institute and in his holy gospel command us to continue a perpetual memory of that his precious death until his coming again; hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech you, and grant that we receiving these your creatures of bread and wine, according to your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood; who in the same night that he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, , and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take, eat this is my body which is broken for you. This do in remembrance of me.’ Likewise after supper he took the cup and when he had given thanks he gave it to them saying, ‘Drink all of it, for this is my blood of New Testament, which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins; do this, as often as you shall drink it, in remembrance of me. Amen.’ Receiving The Body Of Christ

The body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for you to preserve your soul and body unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your heart by faith with thanksgiving. Receiving The Blood Of Christ

The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for you to preserve your soul and body unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ’s blood was shed for you and be thankful. 15

The Lord’s Prayer To be made by the Minister and people

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

#321 Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross Fanny J. Crosby/William H. Doane

Jesus, keep me near the cross; There a precious fountain, Free to all, a healing stream, Flows from Calvary’s mountain. Refrain: In the cross, in the cross, Be my glory ever, Till my raptured soul shall find Rest beyond the river. 16
