HELIX HELIX is a diffuse furniture system that generates a continuous interior space by adapting simultaneously to any vertical and horizontal surface while defining an immersive spatial atmosphere. Its form recalls a natural system that emerges from the structure beneath.

HELIX is modular and can be aggregated in different forms following the logic of spatial branching and growth. The spatial pattern is generated through the repetition of vertical zones of the same base module that generates the 3D macro-aggregate surface cut through planes that emphasize the perspectival views of the sequence from the corridor to the interior space. The system morphs the space allowing the viewer to follow the visual continuous trajectory generated by the wrapper (wall + ceiling). The aggregate surface adapts in response to the specific site conditions and programmatic requirements with each module shaped by scripted rules.

It is manufactured through iterative procedures guided by a 5-Axis CNC wire cut able to carve out the modules from a solid mass of material.

Made of EPS- expanded polystyrene obtained by corn, it is completely recyclable and the manufacturing process helps to reduce CO2 emissions allowing the project to be completely executed through fully sustainable processes. The structure is lightweight yet highly resistant due to the resin finish.

HELIX investigates the notion of space-atmosphere, adaptability, reuse, and sustainable manufacturing processes.

OSW

OSW is a networked office based in Milan (Italy) and New Orleans (USA).

They operate throughan expanded platform that combines design practice, research, and teaching as the core of their interdisciplinary experimentations. The group is interested in working through multiple scales that encompass design, architecture and urban scale projects. The office operates as a permanent workshop looking at architecture as an inclusive practice. The notion of process is at the core of their work allowing for approaches that investigate the ephemeral boundaries between publicprivate territories by looking at the definition of new operative domains for architecture and design.

The founding partners have practiced in Italy, UK, USA ,and before starting their own practice, have worked for international firms including Eisenman Architects, Richard Meier & Partners and Zaha Hadid Architects.

AMR: In 1980 in Pederobba , in the Treviso Province, Recchia Angelo founded AMR, a family run business specialized in expanded polystyrene treatment and processing for a wide range of uses. In the end of 1994, to improve the quality of its products, AMR designed and developed a numerically controlled pantograph fitted with five axes for execution of special cuts in polystyrene.

This machine permitted the company to satisfy the varied demands of its customers, and the list of projects executed through the use of this machine include the mould for the cupola on the Czar’s palace in Russia, prototypes for boats, speedboats and airplanes, as well as processing operations for construction sites and shipyards.

At present, AMR is still managed by the Recchia family, who have launched AMR towards constant growth and ever higher quality in polystyrene processing.
