We hear Ryan Andrews debut feature - the eccentric British horror movie ‘The Gammons’ is well into production featuring Jaime Winston (pictured left) as ‘Elfie Hopkins’ and Ray Winston as ‘The Butcher’.The film is an set in the depths of a hunting holiday village in West Wales. With rumours of Skins moving across the bridge, the future is looking bright for Film & TV in Wales.
National Theatre Wales joins forces with WildWorks and Michael Sheen to star in a one-off ground-breaking theatre event taking place in Sheen's home town of Port-Talbot. Authoritarian forces have taken over the town and plan to change it forever. The Manic Street Preachers are playing an exclusive gig at ‘The Supper’ episode (200 Cap)
For one special month we will be transforming the Cardiff Arts Institute backyard into a magical musical playground to welcome in the Summer. Life Drawing Open life drawing sessions with two models, one male and one female in individual and joint poses every Tuesday. Who is Pure Evil?
To truly understand Pure Evil it is useful to know that he is a descendant of the late Sir Thomas More, the Lord Chancellor who wrote the controversial work Utopia and who was later beheaded by King Henry VIII.
It seems only natural then, that Pure Evil should explore the darker side of the wreckage of Utopian dreams and the myth of the Apocalypse, a belief in the life-changing event that brings history with all its conflicts to an end. In 1990 PURE EVIL left the Poll Tax Riots of London behind and went to live in California where he spent 10 years ingesting weapons grade psychedelics, thinking about stuff , making electronic music and printing t-shirts .
Inspired by skateboard culture and the west coast character graffiti of Twist, he returned to London and picked up a spraycan and started painting weird fanged vampire bunnies everywhere. Pure Evils ancestry is alleged to include eight saints: Vladimir the Great, Saint Anna of Russia, the Holy Martyrs Boris and Gleb, Saint Stephen of Hungary, Saint Margaret of Scotland and Saint Mathilde together with Saint Thomas More, Humbert III of Savoy and several European royal families.
He also claims to be descended from the Old English Chieftain Ailric, Kings Thane to Edward the Confessor, who held Cawthorne and much of South Yorkshire before the Conquest. ““ pureevilclothing.com

So. SWN? Some people guessed it might be 'South Wales Noise'. If only we'd been that clever eh? In reality SWN is pronounced 'soon' and is Welsh for 'sound'. I thought I'd clear up the pronunciation first, otherwise you might keep reading this column and wondering what SWN stood for. For those of you who don't know us, we began as a three day festival around a whole host of Cardiff venues in the autumn of 2007. As we approach our fifth festival this October (Oct 2022nd if you'd like to put it in your diaries) we've grown a little as both a festival and as promoters of music. We bring concerts into Wales - mostly into our hometown of Cardiff, but sometimes around Wales - and we also help curate at other peoples' festivals - like Cam-

We like lots of different music, so the shows can be quite varied, but you might find a thread through upcoming shows from Cold Cave, Warpaint, Darwin Deez, Three Trapped Tigers and James Vincent McMorrow, to name a few.
People say that most Art is a crock of shit and completely up it’s own arse. Some of the most profound artistic statements I have ever come across have been while sitting in the toilet and admiring someone's biro on wall. Usually this toilet poetry sits alongside the classic marker pen giant knob and the glory hole phone number.

Toilet art is a long celebrated tradition and during the month of June, Cardiff Arts Institute is inviting selected artists to take over its toilet cubicles. For two months these cubical installations will provide a backdrop to those private intimate moments of thought - the perfect time to soak up some culture. Urban Outfitters are taking over the larger toilet at the top of the stairs and turning it into something very special. If the idea of this exhibition has got you thinking of a shit idea - it’s probably great for the piss-artists exhibition. We will commission eight of the best ideas and make them a reality with the exhibition opening in the 1st week of June which will be the only time you’ll really want to hang out in the toilets. Simon's Recipe Corner Ingredients 1/2 Onion finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 2 Red Chillies, diced 200g Potatoes, diced and par boiled Sunflower oil Cumin seeds (1tsp) Fennel seeds (1tsp) Ground Coriander (1tsp) Garam Masala (1tsp) Fresh coriander
Method Simon Says: "Saute the onions in sunflower oil for a few minutes. Add the garlic, chilli and dry spices and cook until they begin to crackle. Then, add cauliflower & potatoes along with a cup of water, cover with a lid and simmer for 10 mins, stirring occasionally, until cauliflower is tender. Stir in the Garam Masala and season to taste. Finish with freshly chopped coriander and serve with rice." We forage the fields and hedgerows, select organic ingredients where ever possible and endeavor to source from small businesses for our supplies. We like to keep things simple and Simon our chef makes everything from scratch so that we can offer you wholesome, inspiring and seasonal grub that is beautiful inside and out.

Two of Wales’ finest combine for a seriously strong EP. Another string in the bow for the Associated Minds label, proving them to be one of the UK’s top independent Hip-hop labels. Metabeats is possibly the city’s best all round producer and Swansea boy Mudmowth is now based in Indonesia but continues to make waves over here.
Despite seeming like this track is way ahead of it’s time, this 1984 slice of laid back Boogie is not actually talking about an ‘internet connection’. It is a great tune however.
With a new album 'Raven in the Grave' out soon, Raveonettes return typically drifting between sweet surfer-rock and dark shoegaze.

Darkhouse Family// CRST Stabwound// Redeye (Catapult Records) The top spot has to go to the first release on own label from the Darkhouse Family and CRST. Darkhouse Family rule the A side with Stabwound: a much more frenetic stretch than their previous releases, but still retains the duos redeyed drum patterns and future boogie synth lines. CRST on the flip offer a slice of chrome coated tribal garage, this is a nasty dance floor beast.
Julio Bashmore Batty Knee Dance (3024)
This may be Julio Bashmore’s finest moment to date and its fair to say he’s had some pretty fine moments. Batty Knee Dance really is a glorious piece of emotive dance music, before you give it a listen just remember that it is okay to cry maybe not in public mind you. This record is fucking immense.
Fudge Fingas Now About How (Prime Numbers) It’s fair to say that Prime Numbers is one of those labels that grabbed our attention right from the start and have continued to holdn it with each new release. Now About How from Edinburgh’s Fudge Fingas displays all the multi-dimensional influences this label excel in, across two plates of sweet-sweet house music.

Burial Street Halo (Hyperdub)
This classic 4th & Broadway 1983 Boogie release was actually produced by Reggae dons, Sly and Robbie and featured a remix from US Garage legend Larry Levan on the flipside.
‘Street Halo’ follows the hyperbole of Burial's collaboration with Four Tet and Thom Yorke - Ego. In our opinion, ‘Street Halo’ and the accompanying B sides ‘NYC’ and ’Stolen Dog’ are sheer brilliance. They display all the low slung excellence we experienced on his ‘Untrue’ album with hallmark androgynous yearning vocals and his muted post club 4AM spectral rhythms. We hope we don’t have to wait another 4 years for more solo work from this incredible producer.
BB+ Q Dreamer From the ‘Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens Band’s’ last album ‘Genie’ which came out in 1985. It’s impossible not to smile when this tune comes on, it’s total summer.
Kassem Mosse Workshop 12 (Workshop) No one does deep and arresting house music better than Kassem Mosse and Kassem Mosse doesn’t do deep arresting house music better than when he releases on Workshop. This is a tough and raw chugger of deep space house music. He does all the simply things right, raw drum patterns, infectious grooves and sensual vocals, that’s pretty much all you need in our opinion.
