SEPTEMBER THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 7.30PM NORTHUMBERLAND THEATRE COMPANY (NTC) presents ‘THE STARS LOOK DOWN’ From the classic novel by AJ Cronin, freely adapted by Alex Ferguson. An uplifting family saga about a miner’s son who resolves to fight the profiteering that killed so many through underground accidents and starvation, and the injustice that wears down families and communities. A physical theatre version of this classic 30’s novel set in the North East exploring the life of young Davie Fenwick as he strives to gain decent wages and conditions for the pitmen. £12 adults, £10 adult concessions, £6 young people. OCTOBER FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER 7.30PM NORTH SHROPSHIRE FOLK ‘THE LEYLINES’ West country collective The Leylines make a welcome return the night before Blackberry Fair with their genre-defying eclectic sound that ranges from traditional folk to full blown festival rock. They are Steve Mitchell (vocals/guitar), Hannah Johns (violin), Dan Thompson (electric guitar), Sean Booth (bass) and Dave Burbidge (drums). They combine their individual musical styles into something that isn’t quite folk, sort of punk, 100% heart-pounding revelry. The Leylines guarantee to have their audiences up on their feet. The Leylines will be supported by two young local musicians Will Vaughan and Aaron Evans, winners of last year’s Blackberry Fair busking competitions. Great night before Blackberry Fair £14/£12/£6

Fresh out of jail and with two young kids, Rose-Lynn Harlan is bursting with raw talent, cheek and a dream of getting out of Glasgow to make it as a country singer in Nashville. Also stars Sophie Okonedo and Julie Walters. The bastard Edmund, haughty Goneril, poor deluded Gloucester, oily Oswald, sweet Cordelia, mad Tom – all the characters from this sad and sorry tale brought to glorious life before your very eyes. Funny. Fast-paced and ultimately heartbreaking. Suitable 14+ £10 adults, £5 young people

A former electrician, he decided to become a musician after seeing Christy Moore perform on Irish TV. The Dublin born traditional singer and bouzouki player has been described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of the most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. ‘Just occasionally you come across a singer so talented, so natural, that you feel you might as well give it all up and just listen in awe’ Living Tradition. £14 adults, £12 adult concs, £6 young people.


FRIDAY 22nd NOVEMBER 6PM ARTS ALIVE EVENT FETCH THEATRE presents ‘PEDLAR’S TALES’ Suitable 7+ Pedlar’s Tales revolves around Silver Joan – a charismatic, mysterious pedlar – and her magical cart, drawn by a goat. An air of mystery runs through the show and the mesmerising stories. Beautiful, colourful, believable puppets breathe further life into the stories while fun interaction with the audience draws you deeper into Joan’s realm. THURSDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 7.30PM ARTS ALIVE EVENT BOX TALE SOUP THEATRE presents ‘THE TURN OF THE SCREW’ An adaptation of the famous Henry James novella, it combines human and puppet performances to bring this gothic horror story to life. A governess is looking after two small children in an isolated country house. Charmed at first by her surroundings, then sinister figures appear… Creepy and tense, imaginative and thoughtful. SUNDAY 15TH DECEMBER 7.30PM NORTH SHROPSHIRE FOLK A festive evening with ‘A WINTER UNION’ Five leading lights of the British roots scene join forces to create a festive folk band like no other. Expect soaring harmonious and exquisite musicianship as the 5-piece blast through a repertoire of brand new, specially written songs, fresh arrangements of traditional carols both well-loved and little known, and Christmas classics from both sides of the Atlantic.
