Dear Parents and Carers, Sixth Form Christmas Ball This year’s Sixth Form Christmas Ball will take place at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf and Spa on Thursday, 12 December at 7pm to 11pm. This is a black tie event and we very much look forward to seeing photographs of students in their wonderful gowns and suits. Welcome to Whitchurch We have now taken delivery of over 5000 copies of a new publication, Welcome to Whitchurch. The brochure aims to showcase the many facilities, services, sports clubs and businesses Whitchurch has to offer. Copies will be distributed in the coming weeks with the help of our students, who also contributed to producing this. Mock General Election By the time you read this bulletin we will know the results of the General Election. As part of learning about the British value of democracy, our students have been listening to manifestos from our Sixth Form mock election candidates this week and discussing policies in lessons. We have invited all of our students to vote on Thursday 12 December and look forward to seeing the results. We hope that they will all exercise their democratic right. Christmas Jumper Day On Friday, 20 December we will be allowing students to wear a festive jumper, they can also decorate a jumper in a festive way. Students should wear uniform apart from the change in jumper if they wish. Students will gather for the final celebration of the year to reflect on the term and to recognise their achievements. E-Safety West Midlands Police have been made aware of an App called “UNICO LIVE”. The app is publicised as age restricted 12+ and designed for young people to upload videos of them performing, singing and dancing. The police are raising awareness of this App, as it has been brought to their attention that the platform contains inappropriate content involving young people which is being investigated. The content does not appear to be monitored and the police are urging parents to be vigilant to reduce the likelihood of any child being sexually exploited. Mrs Apperley, Assistant Headteacher

Christmas Showcase
A Christmas Carol
Monday evening saw the Christmas Showcase take place in front of a large crowd. Miss Collins, worked tirelessly with her Drama group to produce the fantastic production. A lot of time and planning went into the event, starting back in September when the students began to prepare. The performance was received really well and was a brilliant opportunity to help get staff, students and parents/carers at Sir John Talbot’s into the festive spirit. A huge congratulations and well done to Miss Collins and her Drama Club.
Our Year 9 students have been reading 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. As part of this unit, the students were asked to research and create a Victorian Christmas decoration to learn and celebrate the work of Dickens. The students have worked very hard, and are very proud of their creations.
Students Entertain at Day Centre A big well done to Sir John Talbot’s Drama Club, who performed for the residents of The Bradbury Day Centre recently. The students performed with enthusiasm and confidence to help spread the Christmas cheer! They even met their resident dog!
Functional Skills Course
Rewards Trip to York Last Friday morning, a large group of Year 11 and 12 students departed SJT by coach and headed off to the historic city of York. Students were taken along the ancient City Walls where they could enjoy views of the beautiful York Minster, Clifford’s Tower and the Yorkshire Museum. Year 12 students set off to explore the National Railway Museum, with its unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance including the Mallard, Bullet train and, of course, Stephenson’s Rocket. Year 11 went in search of The Shambles to find ‘The Shop That Cannot Be Named’ and York Dungeon. The Christmas Market was also in full swing. Students behaved impeccably and were a credit to the school.
