Homework

Forest

We expect children in Rowan class to read at home at least 4 times a week but ideally every day. Please tick and sign your child’s bookmark every time you read with them at home. Mrs Kinna will also be uploading a phonics task onto the class story on ClassDojo each week.

We will be visiting our Forest area every other Thursday afternoon. We will provide you with dates each half term and put reminders onto ClassDojo. Please ensure your child arrives at school wearing suitable clothing on those dates. Trousers, a long sleeved top, extra layers (such as a fleece), a waterproof coat (an all-in-one is ideal) and a hat and gloves in the cold weather. They should wear shoes to school and bring their welly boots in a named bag.

Children in Rowan and Sapling classes will have mini topic projects to complete each week. Mrs Bogle and Mrs Heilbronn will be uploading these onto the class story on ClassDojo every Friday and we expect the completed project to be in your child’s portfolio on ClassDojo by the following Friday.

PE We will provide you with dates for PE each half term and put reminders onto ClassDojo. Please ensure that your child arrives at school wearing their PE kit on those dates.

Me and My Community

Exploring Autumn

In this project, your child will learn about the school community and building friendships. They will explore the school grounds as much as possible whilst remaining in our ‘bubble’ and they will find out about all the people in school who are there to help them. They will explore how they are special and unique and how everyone’s family is different. They will take part in practical activities to support them to build new friendships and explore what makes a good friend.

In this project, your child will go on woodland walks in our Forest area to learn about the seasonal changes that happen in autumn. They will learn about birds and animals that live in the woods and how they survive as the weather gets colder. They will take part in practical and creative activities that will support them to learn about autumn.

At home you can...

Support your child to understand that:

At home you can... There are four seasons. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter

Support your child to understand that: A community is a group of people. We are all members of different communities including our family community, the school community and the local community. Families are all different. In the local community there are lots of people who can help us, including teachers, shop workers, doctors and the emergency services. The emergency services include police, firefighters, paramedics and rescue teams.

Autumn is the time of year when leaves change colour and fall from the trees. In autumn the weather starts to get colder and the days get shorter Some animals, like hedgehogs, get ready to hibernate. This means they will sleep through the cold winter. Some animals collect food ready for winter. Squirrels collect nuts, such as acorns, which they bury underground until they need them. Use and explore key vocabulary:

Every community has its own set of rules and ways to behave. It is important to follow the rules so that everyone can get along
