Our Summer Term Projects Whoosh?
Are Carrots Orange?
The countdown has begun. Are you ready for blast off?
Food marvellous food! What do you like to eat? It’s time to find out more about eating well and being healthy.
For this project, we’ll join Baby Bear in the story Whatever Next by Jill Murphy and make our own cardboard box rocket then prepare a picnic to take with us on an adventure. We’ll investigate when an alien is spotted in our classroom, share lots of space themed stories, design an alien spaceship and explore ‘moon sand’. It will be out of this world!
For this project, we’ll explore a rainbow of healthy foods, comparing and sort different fruits and vegetables. Following instructions and working together we will create healthy snacks and bravely taste things we’ve never tried before! Setting up a class supermarket will be lots of fun and you never know Supertato and Evil Pea from the book by Sue Hendra might even visit us!

Stay up late and look at the stars and moon? A stargazing app could help you identify well-known constellations.
Taste a new fruit or vegetable that you’ve never tried before.
Create extraordinary aliens using modelling clay or a drawing app.
You could also plant some seeds; cress or radish are perfect, and learn about what they need to grow. Follow a recipe to make a healthy meal or snack.
Land Ahoy!
Why do ladybirds have spots?
Yo-ho-ho! Get ready to take to the high seas and set sail in search of treasure!
Why do spiders spin webs? It’s time to find out more about minibeasts and their habitats.
For this project, we’ll find out about boats and ships of all shapes and sizes. We will investigate floating and sinking and think about how boats float as we design and make models using a variety of materials. We’ll even find out how to talk and sing like a pirate, make treasure maps and telescopes. Are you brave enough to walk the plank!
For this project, we’ll visit our forest and field to carry out a minibeast safari! Magnifying glasses clutched firmly in hands, we’ll look under logs, leaves and stones for creatures that wriggle, crawl or fly. We’ll find out about minibeast habitats, features and colours, and compare them. To get to know these creepy crawlies better, we’ll make and monitor a mini wormery, minibeast hotel and a butterfly garden.

Take a trip to the coast? Visit the harbour, lifeboat station and beach and take plenty of interesting photographs. Don’t forget to bring them into school to show your friends.
Make an information sheet about a minbeast, draw a picture and write some fun facts and bring it to school to show your friends.
Set up a treasure hunt and draw a map or have a go at writing clues.
Put a large hoop on an area of earth, water the area with a watering can, and tap your fingers lightly on the ground. Can you entice any worms to the surface?
