Vision

The Discovery Curriculum aims to:

- develop responsible, respectful and active citizens

- promote equality of opportunity

- promote an inclusive environment

- develop pupils’ character, giving them qualities, they need to flourish in society

- develop pupils’ confidence and resilience so that they can keep themselves mentally healthy

- prepare pupils for the next phase of education

The Discovery Curriculum also aims to develop students wider understanding of the world beyond the limited context of the surrounding area, developing their cultural understanding, cultural experience and tolerance of others, enabling them to be ready to face the multi-cultural world that awaits them.

Context

Students living in Market Drayton and the surrounding areas have low exposure to a range of cultural diversity compared to students living in inner city or urban areas. The aim of Grove School is to give students the exposure to other cultures and diversity and prepare them for life after school.

Disciplinary Knowledge

As our timetabled Discovery curriculum, students experience a broad range of Careers-themed lessons intertwined within other sessions whereby students link their learning of careers to various PSHE/RSE themes. These themes also form the basis of Discovery Days where employability skills and qualities such as effective communication, empathy and equality are demonstrated. This fusion of PSHE and our Future Me careers programme is a valuable opportunity for students to explore and reflect upon their own place within the world and consider their options for character and careers as they prepare for a life and world beyond our school.

Within our Daily Discovery students follow a comprehensive programme incorporating the school values and BritishValues.Time is given for students to reflect on their own experiences and world views through articles fromThe Day. Students are encouraged to push and develop their sense of sense through an extensive extra-curricular programme and House Competitions.
