YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE

HELLO

A warm welcome to our school... At Sir John Talbot’s School our passion for learning shines brightly. Students are at the very heart of everything we do and our motto of ‘Achievement through caring’ underpins our 360° approach to education. For young people to flourish they need a supportive environment that encourages them to achieve their full potential. Our pastoral system is the foundation of our curriculum, and students are encouraged to aspire, to challenge, to debate and to achieve whilst caring for themselves and others. As a proud member of the Marches Academy Trust, we benefit from being part of a strong and outward-looking community with common goals and fundamental core values. Choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. We are here to help you through the process and look forward to welcoming you and your son or daughter so you can see for yourself what makes Sir John Talbot’s School such a special place. David O’Toole BA, MA, NPQH Headteacher

There is a world of opportunity out there…and we want to help students seize it. From excellence in the classroom to an impressive range of extra-curricular activities, students can fully immerse themselves in what we offer, developing transferable skills that they will use throughout their lives.

THINK BIG

SJT

When we talk about SJT360° what we really mean is taking a holistic approach to education, and caring about the whole child, not just exam results. A vertical house system that encourages children of different ages to mix and collaborate, a mentoring system that sees older students build relationships with younger members of the school community and a pastoral team that is always available for those who need a little extra support or just a friendly ear.

YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN

Students are empowered to face the future with a forward-looking attitude, excellent communication skills and a resilient, positive mindset. Our LORIC programme encourages students to develop attributes in: Leadership – not everyone is a born leader but these skills can be refined and encouraged Organisation – vital in everyday life, especially as they progress through the school Resilience – how to learn from a setback and move forwards Initiative – being self-motivated and independent Communication – how we present ourselves to the world, whether verbally or non-verbally

SJT

INTEGRITY: Being truthful, honest and sincere is really important at SJT. We like to think of it as doing the right thing even when no-one is watching!

EXPLORE THE WORLD

EQUALITY: Fairness is really important at our school. We want everyone to have equal opportunities and work hard to achieve this.

Outside the classroom students enjoy sports trips, residential weekends and a busy extra-curricular programme all designed to offer breadth of opportunity and to widen their horizons. We aim to bring learning to life whether that is whilst kayaking down a river, on a work experience placement or raising money for charity.

BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE CREATIVITY: We want you to be able to express yourself, whether that is through art, music, debating, drama or whatever else makes you happy and fulfilled.

Scientist? Actor? Engineer? Designer? We teach our students that the possibilities really are endless. We aim to stimulate, captivate and inspire our young people, and our broad curriculum and specialist workshops help open their minds to the world of work.

BUILD YOUR SKILLS

Every student is unique. For some, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme will provide the ideal opportunity to challenge themselves, developing their courage, perseverance, independence and team-building skills. Each year students successfully complete the three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – and relish the opportunities it brings. For others, a role as a school ambassador, learning mentor or member of the Student Parliament will allow them to express themselves or to sharpen their leadership skills. We want students to flourish within a role that allows them to give something back to their school community.

EMPATHY: Understanding how other people feel is an important part of growing up. We encourage you to think of others and treat them as you would like to be treated.

A BRIGHT FUTURE

For many children, the move to secondary school can be daunting. Our established transition programme offers taster days, workshops, sports festivals and challenge days, all designed with primary school pupils in mind. We want your son or daughter to see this next stage as an adventure and we are here to make that happen. And although it might seem a long way off, it is good to know that our Sixth Form is a happy, thriving place. Students are aspirational, and each year they aim for a mixture of good universities, apprenticeship schemes and careers. As they look to take their next step in life, we are here to fully support them along the way.

EXCELLENCE: As a school, we think you deserve a superb education. Everything we do is designed to deliver that – and we encourage you to strive for excellence too.
