Welcome 2017 is an exciting year as we launch the first 10K race and hope this year proves to be successful so we can make this an annual event.

This year we are working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and hope to raise a significant amount to support this great charity. We have an active committee in Whitchurch who also organise a number of events throughout the year, so it is great to add this to the diary for 2017. On a personal level, I am proud to be part of the organisation committee to offer you this fantastic event. We have lots of runners in our local town so it is great to bring everyone together to take in the delightful sights of our market town. The town centre, with its half-timbered buildings, bustling pubs and the imposing Georgian Grade 1 listed St Alkmund’s Church form part of the course. We hope there is a lot of cheering from local residents and townsfolk as you take on the route. I wish you, our sponsors, volunteers, friends, families and supporters a fantastic day and hope to see you all again next year.

Baggage Storage
There will be a facility to store baggage during the race which can be dropped off at Race Registration before 9:40am on race day. A label detailing your race number will be attached to your bag to enable easy collection after the race.
Headphones
UK Athletics rules state that headphones should not be worn for safety reasons.
Prize Giving

All entrants who complete the 10K race will receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag immediately following the race. A prize giving ceremony will take place on the school field at 12:00 midday to present the fastest male and female category winners with their trophies and prize money, plus age category winners. START FINISH

Parking Please adhere to the parking allocations on the race day to ensure the smooth running of the event. All participants will need to park if arriving by car or motorcycle at the Rugby Club, Sedgeford, Whitchurch SY13 1EX. This will also be the drop off venue.

By 2020, nearly 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Macmillan provides services to support people with cancer and their loved ones from the moment they’re diagnosed, through their treatment and beyond. In 2015 we spent a record £165.5 million on people affected by Cancer AND… we reached 5.8 million people affected by cancer, including more than 778,000 people who were supported by our professionals. There are currently 39 Macmillan Services posts in Shropshire. They range from Macmillan GP’s, to Clinic Nurses Specialists, to Therapists, Support Managers and Benefit advisors. Some are in funding and others may be out of funding but still undergoing Macmillan training. This is to support the 17,000 people who are currently living with cancer here in Shropshire. Jessica Brindley is our Macmillan Support Manager based between Royal Shrewsbury & Princess Royal in Telford offers help & Support to those affected by cancer. She will talk to the patients about finances which is often one of their biggest worries. We handed out 341 grants in 2015 to patients needing some financial help – totalling - £60,998. Cancer patients can apply to Macmillan for a grant to help with clothing, heating perhaps a last holiday to the value of £500.00. We can’t provide all these services without events like the Whitchurch 10K – thank you to all of those who have supported this wonderful community event.
