What is STEM? Science Technology Engineering & Maths STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM subjects are integral to the UK’s success: •the UK is the 6th largest manufacturer in the world •engineering turnover is £800 billion per year •the UK produces 10% of the world’s top scientific research. Whilst graduates can expect to earn £160,00 more in their lifetime than non-graduates, STEM graduates have the potential to earn more than twice this amount!

Science Technology Engineering & Maths Summary of Programme - Autumn Term 2021 – first ½ term 15th September: Years 8,9 & 10 Young STEM Leaders meet Miss Allsop in Lab 3 22nd September: Party time! Make a tea bag fly, pick up ice cubes with nothing but string, change the pH of your party drink with a Bunsen burner & Miss Allsop has money to burn! 29th September: Boom! Cosmetic Science is back – we make bombs – for your bath of course! 6th October: No STEM Club JAL at the Marches Academy. 13th October: Agh! Get ready for Halloween and celebrate the end of British Biology Week - dissecting eye balls.

Science Technology Engineering & Maths Summary of Programme - Autumn Term 2021 – second1/2 term 3rd November: No STEM Club JAL at the Marches Academy. 10th November: This is rocket science - design a fire work. 17th November: Blood, guts and gore …. under the microscope. 24th November: investigate secret ink for your letters to Santa. Then use marvelous metal Science to make Xmas gifts. 1st December: Exciting – electronics! Make Xmas tree circuits with flashing LED lights. 8th December: Saturated solutions. STEM Club leads the Science inter-house Christmas “Chemistree” Competition…. and we make crystal snowflake decorations. 15th December: Complete combustion and the Christmas pudding. Set stuff on fire and create your own Northern lights.
